  1. They gave him a hit. He has his own paparazzi that follows him around and special sports channels. He can run for commissioner.
  2. first base was open with the best hitter in the world at the plate and a pitcher who just threw two balls in the dirt
  3. Come on, the Sox must have driven Rodon's pitch count up to three times as high as Bello's by now.
  4. Duran is our best bet -- on a gapper that two outfielders both dive for and crack heads, while it rolls all the way to the wall and Jarren circles the bags. I'm serious.
  5. Yanks aren't barreling much more than Sox, but every one of their hitters is a threat to hit a pop-up to the RF porch. This is what I meant that just watching one game in the Bronx is such a grind. And now it's a tie with one club desperately trying not to get eliminated.
  6. Red Sox could have the least-feared clean-up men in the history of any team that actually won enough to make the playoffs.
  7. Rodon is living on the outside corner with backdoor breaking stuff, and Bregman rightly tried to go oppo. Just didn't sting it -- at least he didn't try to pull and miss a pitch by two feet like others...
  8. NY's rookie starter has 10 more starts because he came up a couple months earlier. Plus, he's 24, a whole year earlier than Early.
  9. I turned off the sound before Rice even swung. But good job on the HR immediately showing Judge smiling -- cuz his groundout had so much to do with those runs.
  10. I wanted Romy 1st and Ref 4th last night, too -- Gonzo is a faster runner, so it makes more sense in front of top run producers Story and Bregman, right? But then, Cora pinch-hit Yoshida for DH Ref, and I realized... that was planned pregame: facing a righty reliever with speed guys from the bottom of the order on base. By the time the clean-up spot came up, it may have been too late.
  11. It was Girardi, last day of 2011. Yanks had 1st clinched, and a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the 8th in Tampa. Rays were battling the really Red Flops for the Wild Card -- when there was only one. Yankees played just about everyone on their roster except Mariano Rivera that day: 16 position players and 11 pitchers -- the last third who did their best to blow the game. Girardi could've stopped the bleeding any time he wanted if he brought in Mo, but he just sat there smiling, because even if the Red Sox won, they'd have to play the Rays the next day in a one game playoff... and burn up more arms and legs, and not rest all their end of the year aches and pains. Of course, when Pap and Crawl Cawful blew it in Baltimore, it made Longoria's walk-off HR even better for NY... except, oops, until they got eliminated in the first round by the Tigers in the Bronx.
  12. Matz and Wilson will be key guys vs. power lefties tonight. Maybe even a southpaw rookie reliever? Bello needs to pitch carefully to the monster righties. Then hopefully Slaten and Whitlock can handle them later. Weissert needs to find a really comfortable seat at the end of the bench in the bullpen, and not even get up to stretch unless the Sox are way ahead or way behind.
