  1. I wouldn't take Price back for any two talksox posters, not even for siblings or relatives still learning to type (wait, they'd probably have more value on the trade simulator as prospective writers). Maybe I'd discuss taking Price back if LA threw in Betts and paid half of Mookie's remaining contract.
  2. Schwarber, Joc Pederson, Rosario... all signed one-year contracts for around $7-10M each. The only full-time outfielder the Red Sox inked is Renfroe for $3M (they also had interest in shedding Benintendi's $6M). Before this putting-it-offseason, who would've thought JBJ would get more total money and more years than any of them?
  3. But I bet there is interest...
  4. We know Cora doesn't want to, but may have to if this is roster Bloom gives him. Hopefully, someone steps up, breaks out or arrives from Wooster before too long...
  5. Yup, Sox fans who truly feel this is a playoff contender better hope the MLB expands the tournament again this year (which probably will happen).
  6. I just don't see that big a difference between Renfroe and Benintendi to trade one to open a spot for the other. If we're overlooking 2020's SSS and HR's .156 in 122 at bats, then there's even less regard for AB's .103 in 39 at bats. I also think if both improve and reach full potential that Beni contributes more ways to help a club. Rather than give up on Beni and replace him with a more expensive Rosario, the Sox may just think it more cost effective to sign a cheap CFer and back-up LHH first baseman and platoon away at left, center, second and first.
  7. Red Sox have interest in both Mitch Moreland and Travis Shaw. Former earned a ring (and crushed one of the most underrated home runs in Sox history); latter "plays" multiple positions. Which guy interests you more? Which one is more interesting to Bloom?
  8. Since many closers have up-and-down limited shelf lives, very few are ever worth longterm contracts. Starting pitchers, preferably under-30, who have proven their durability after at least a few stable seasons of workload IP, may be better investments.
  9. Maybe he just likes the plan of promoting Duran and Downs at the MLB minimum more.
  10. Maybe Marwin will be here soon, too.
  11. I know, now I'm worried about our new 2B/CF guy; EHern or KHern could both mean trouble.
  12. It's interesting that one's initials reflect his most meaningful value to the Sox, while the other's initials underscore a currently vague status, with only the promise of a to-be-determined positive or negative WAR...
  13. Even vintage wine must sour at some point and aged cheese grow mold that can be inedible (if not dangerous). But from what I saw of Pearson, he looks better right now than any minor league pitcher in Boston's entire system. The big question: is his current simulated value higher than even Luis Castillo's...
  14. I watched those Jays in a Double A game a few years ago and it was clear that Toronto soon going to dominate the majors again in the near future. And it wasn't just that Vlad, Biggio and Bichette had famous dads... that day we saw Vlad and Cavan blast HRs out of the stadium, and Bo hit more liners than any of them.
  15. Ryu led the NL in ERA and was Cy Young runner-up in the full season before the Jays signed him. He finished 3rd in the AL Cy Young voting for Toronto last year..
  16. The point wasn't which was better, but that Toronto added that entire rotation in the past year (plus Walker) -- when they weren't "all-in", either. Pearson emerged from the minors, but looks like he could be a future ace. The others are at least stable... while Boston has Perez. Hopefully, Pivetta will continue to establish himself, but what we get out of the rest is 50-50 at best. Bauer's not the answer, and the next best thing -- Odorizzi -- is coming off injury... just like Kluber, Richards, Taillon, etc, etc. Teams can never have enough pitching question marks. Maybe this twist on the old adage is better posed as an interrogative: Can we ever have enough pitching question marks? Do we really need more pitching question marks? Can we stop with the pitching question marks?
  17. Yup, but let's not pretend I didn't say "MLB pitchers", not MLB potential, AAAA starters or prospects.
  18. 1. SP, 2. SP, 3. SP ... or 1 SP for 3 years (cough, Odorizzi). Seriously, as much as we want to watch good everyday position players, none of it matters if we don't have MLB pitchers. As much as we'd all like to forget 2020, it happened, and recently. The Blue Jays may be spending big on quality regulars, but remember they added six starting pitchers in the past year. If the Red Sox did that -- and yes, some of their sick and injured may rebound -- the whole product improves, even if Kike alternates in CF and 2B with ready-or-not Duran and last year's platoon of stand-bys at the keystone sack.
  19. So can we afford JBJ? Or... do we want to?
  20. From MLBTradeRumors: "while the Tribe likes the former Gold Glove winner, Pluto believes Bradley will be too expensive for Cleveland’s liking." Query for the board: are the Sox now Cleveland of the AL East? Not counting Baltimore, of course... but beyond NY and Toronto -- who are obviously "all-in" -- there is the poor Tampa Rays... and Kiermaier, their centerfielder under contract for $35 million for the next three years.
  21. I put a period at the end, declarative statement. Odorizzi for three years is an investment for both improving the now, and also helping stabilize the future. Problem is, he may be waiting for Bauer to sign, thus driving up his price as the next best thing for bidders who miss out on Trevor. Second problem for those who think the Sox should wait another year before spending more: there may not be any free agent starting pitchers next winter better than Jake's combined age (30) and pedigree (All-Star in '19).
  22. Was it Henry that said he didn't want to make the same mistake like when they lost Heidi? Or will a presser be held, waxing nostalgic being a young fan of Brigitte Bardot...
  23. Don't. Guys who prove they can pitch in the majors in their mid-20s have less mileage on their shoulders and elbows than guys in their 30s. All teams are always looking for mid-20s arms they can put mileage on.
  24. Sure, but if one of those guys breaks out and becomes an All-Star, there has to be consideration for extending and keeping him as a core player going forward.
  25. How many Red Sox fans have a problem with supporting a franchise that pays a player market value so their team can have a better chance to win.
