  1. Well-though out, Alex, though I don't necessarily agree moving KC to LF is setting him up for failure. As much as we have doubts about Campbell, we should also wonder what's up with an org's eval system that a year ago handed him a starting job in the big leagues he clearly wasn't ready for. We do know that those who tried him out at first base last summer have determined that's not for him, either. Maybe the Sox are just making KC an outfielder to regain his value and showcase him as a trade chip? You didn't mention Garcia as an additional OF trade candidate, though maybe Boston will decide to keep him as a platoon partner initially with Abreu. After all, Password has hit more homers than anyone in the system the past two seasons, including Campbell when he went off...
  2. But the timing of some of those decisions damaged the overall record (this isn't second-guessing, since a lot of us were first-guessing at the time): There is a case to be made that anointing KC as a starting MLB infielder over Mayer -- who outplayed him in ST -- resulted in more losses through the first two months; And nobody is saying that leaving Anthony in the minors during that same time didn't detract from the parent club's overall record. Any big league roster is better by including the best hitter in the organization. I'm just glad a lot of promising youngsters got to experience a taste of the postseason, even if it was from the top step of the dugout...
  3. Arias is the perfect guy for a team like the Twins, who realize they don't have the infield of a true contender, especially since they dumped Correa. If the Twins instead had the exact same roster as the Red Sox, they'd also realize they need a club's #1 prospect to rebuild, since Boston doesn't have the infield of a true contender, either (currently, with only one MLB regular -- Trevor Story). The point is, the Joe Ryan talk is meaningless if the Sox don't resign or replace Bregman, and find a healthy first baseman and second baseman who can hold down big league jobs and contribute. We're not just a #2 starting pitcher away from deep October baseball. But we are about 3 months away before Boras lets his clients sign, so prepare for futile arguments with clueless posters like me for the next quarter year.
  4. He got lucky the year before and faced a lot of crooked swingers.
  5. Andre Dawson: 67.2 WAR in Montreal and Chicago, -1.3 WAR in Boston. What the--- ?
  6. The real problem with Suarez in his 30s are his 162-game averages for the past four seasons: 34 Home Runs but .318 OBP and 201 STRIKEOUTS... ... that's a lot of nothing for not very much all.
  7. Maybe a guy just needs a change of mirrors. Or a storefront window at night. Or a pond on a clear day.
  8. We need about 2 times 2 big bats. Right now, we have 2 medium bats in Story and Abreu: 25 HRs and 22 HRs -- the only two who hit as many as 20 last year.
  9. That does it -- Monegro's perfect for Boston. If the Red Sox don't protect Monegro, they'll draft him in the Rule 5 and keep him all season just to pay him to rehab.
  10. Good point about Mayer, even though we still have no idea if this guy can ever play a full season. The issue with "making" Suarez or Schwarber or Campbell or Franchy a first baseman is that it doesn't upgrade an already-crappy defense. It does not improve the Red Sox as a serious contender. We have enough bad fits with Yoshida and his contract. I know you value defense as much as I do, and that's why we need new guys who have shown they are at least competent. Bichette looked good at 2B in the World Series. I don't like him at SS. He's the best all-around hitter in free agency.
  11. If the Sox really want to improve, they have to spend large on two guys. Resign Bregman, sign Alonso, trade for Ryan. Resign Bregman, sign Bichette, trade for Ryan. Resign Bregman, sign Cease, trade for Diaz. Sign Bichette and Alonso, trade for Ryan.
  12. Isn't he one of the nonsense leaders preparing to kick the laborers?
  13. Nothing personal, but I don't want any of these guys. Torres and Polanco aren't good second baseman in their 30s, and don't hit consistently like Bichette to trust them on longterm contracts. Kim would be a bandaid, and we have plenty of them. Rengifo only had the worst OPS of any qualifying batter in the AL. We're Mayered at 2B.
  14. 6.62607015 × 10-34 m2 kg / s ... rounded off: 6.6 x 10-34 m2 kg / s... ... translated: 6.6 k(e)gs x 10 sand dune breaks - mom's ... excuses: I was at that all-weekend party at the beach in the 80s, and made it home safely, but a wide turn into the driveway took out mom's mailbox.
  15. To ensure Kennedy can't ever lie to the public, Henry actually does give his CBOs the combo to the safe. But then the next day he changes the combination. He uses an algorithm of password generators, morse codes, thumb prints and eyeball recognition refracted through reading glasses at +2.50 power. Then he reverses the birthday of his cigars and plays it backwards until it says, "I buried Paul."
  16. They have the budget to resign Bregman AND sign Alonso or Bichette AND a #2 OR trade for a #2 AND extend him. But we'll all believe it when we see it. More likely, they'll sign just one of those big names and tout improvements from the youth movement to sell tickets all winter.
  17. But this isn't a big picture window with summer screens opening across a tableau of suburbia. It's just an attic window with metal slots barely big enough for wasps to nest in. The Red Sox have an ace pitcher and closer, and young outfielders with all-around talent. But they still need a starting first baseman, a starting second baseman, a starting third baseman, a clean-up batter who can hit homers and a #2 pitcher who can start in the postseason...
  18. Great list to evaluate. Based on groundball rates (and presumed swing-and-miss stuff) -- for a team with a crappy infield defense- -- here are the best and worst fits in order... Best fits: Abbott, Greene, Gore, Ryan, Cease, Peralta. Worst fits: Framber, Bassitt, Alcantara, Suarez, Keller, Kelly.
  19. What's silly to me is for a batter to call the pitch a ball before the ump does. If Casas does have a better eye for whether a pitch zipping past him is out of the zone, he should keep it to himself -- rather than showing up an older guy standing behind him. Most hitters realize umpires are human beings full of flaws -- and that pointing those out can ultimately backfire in future at bats. But a little praise for the same Blue on good calls can also ingratiate a batter with a human who may be susceptible to holding grudges...
  20. The cash was even counterfeit -- Monopoly money or moldy slips from Geraldo Capone's safe.
  21. Worst trade for a starting pitcher was Andrew Cashner in 2019. Dombro thought he was beefing up the rotation, grabbing a guy who was 9-3 with a 3.83 ERA and 2.5 WAR in the first half. But Cashner was so bad they only let him make 6 starts before banishing him to the bullpen. His Boston stint: 2-5, 6.20 ERA, -0.3 WAR. The two pitching prospects the Sox dealt never made it, but Cashner never pitched in the bigs again, either. Blaaaaahhhh....
  22. Softball fields 10 with a 4-man outfield. Long time ago anyway... nowadays, kings come in 4-packs -- mainly because beer is so expensive. I don't frequent bars anymore, but I'm told it's all old guys, since young people can't afford $10-dollar drafts (ah, the old days when we used to pound pitchers at the plate and then at the bar...).
  23. Leftfielder on our softball team pulled a hammy sliding a case of Bud cans out of the trunk of his car.
  24. Points taken. But can you also appreciate the need for a balance of young and untested talent with veteran regulars hungry for rings while they can still contribute? The Red Sox need a solid second baseman and a good righthanded bat. The industry word is that Marte needs a change of scenery. Boston sounds like the perfect fit...
