  1. Don't worry -- if they're coming off the IL, that means they're all cured.
  2. Kids these days
  3. Damn, Max -- you solved the latest restgate! And also reinforced why Cora is such a players' manager. What a guy. re. Turner: hate to say it, but he could be toast -- at least as the repeatable clutch-hitting hero of this season. Bad heels don't heal quickly on mere mortals, not to mention wheel-abusing 38-year old pro athletes.
  4. Whoa -- who would've thunk it. And using the lip-reading test on telecasts, Duran may also be outhumbling junk-talking Julio...
  5. Yes, if they were serious about making their best run for a wild card. Jordan Montgomery giving them 5-6 IP per start would've already made a huge difference in preserving the actual Big League relievers in the bullpen, plus Chris Stratton would've given them the missing RHP for the late innings to replace bargain bin waiver wire DFAed minor league detritus. And no matter what Sam Kennedy says, relying on injured guys coming off the IL isn't as good as acquiring healthy guys having good years. But we are where we are... and can only hope we don't fall a game or two short of the Jays for the postseason.
  6. Well, the Cardinals traded a decent starter and a reliever having a good year for two Rangers' prospects in the #11-15 range (plus a big league reliever). But far be it for me to equate actual prospect numbers -- or assume St. Lou would prefer guys from the Sox' 4th-ranked farm, compared to Texas' 7th-ranked farm, per fangraphs. All Cora really needed was one. more. legitimate. starting. pitcher in the Toronto series -- instead of having to use back-to-back openers, which caused poor Pablo to burn out his shotputting shoulder heaving 37 mph Leephuses. One win -- instead of getting swept by the Jays -- and the two clubs would be tied today in the loss column... of course, they'd both be chasing the sizzling Mariners.
  7. Monegro moved up to #22 on MLB Sox prospect list... only 4 other pitchers are ahead of him: #9 Gonzalez, # 10 Perales, #16 Bastardo, #18 Drohan. Monegro and Perales are each 20 years old. Interesting to note that the Red Sox current big league leader in WAR -- Bello -- is already 24. He debuted at 23, after rocketing through the system. (man, we're going to be in awe of that 2027 Sox club... those of us old-timers who make it that far)
  8. Sale's stuff is so good tonight he just straightened out one of Miggy's curls
  9. It's obviously only coincidence that Teel was the best college catcher in the country -- and that the Red Sox had no really good catching prospects in their entire system. But since he was the no-brainer best player available when Boston's #14 pick rolled around, the front office must be salivating at the potential. It should be no problem to move him to shortstop, after they move the other best players they picked who also play shortstop to other positions. Teel could even DH on the days he doesn't pitch...
  10. I'm in for a Brainer Bonaci, and will raise you a Chase Meidroth.
  11. This may send some amateur analysts into a frenzy, but with Teel -- maybe, just maybe -- Bloom didn't just snatch the Best Player Available... because the Red Sox really needed a top catching prospect -- --- ya know, to help build the core of the next sustained contenders. NOW SIGN (OR TRADE some shortstop prospects for) BELOW-30 CONTROLLABLE STARTING PITCHERS... ASAP damn it
  12. We have a winner! B.... but what is the name of this beer... that supposedly sold out daily (intentionally underproduced -- hey, it worked)
  13. SSS: Small Short Stop? For what he's done for just one week, Pablo now gets first name reverence with Sox fans.
  14. WHY is Cora resting Ortiz? Oh... bad heel
  15. Sometimes I wish I could crawl right into the can. note: preceding quote directly lifted from the script on the beer I'm drinking right now. Who can name it? Hint: New Englanders -- it's from Vermont
  16. Agreed. Just like I can't fault Cora for making in-game moves when he knows his players' status day-to-day -- while I'm just a detached observer -- then I guess I should give Bloom the same benefit of the doubt for the new players he acquires and for the ones he doesn't. I will give Bloom credit for picking up a few complementary players who have exceeded their past baseball card feats... even if they weren't major impact guys, the sum of the whole is the goal. But when ex-Sox-turned-media members like Merloni wonder the same as fans how a CBO goes into a season without a bullpen or 1st baseman (like '22) or shortstop or starting rotation ('23, preseason or deadline), it confirms other concerns. Leaving glaring holes unfilled is just glaring in Boston -- and there's just no disputing it -- whether it's the fault of ownership or the front office...
  17. The thing is -- and this has been stated by posters you view in let's say, different contexts -- a GM of any Big League team is judged by most fans of said Big League team on the records and standings of that Big League team. Would you even agree that is true? And by most, can I say at least 51% of the fans?
  18. On McGuire's very next AB, he did the exact same thing -- run the chalk line like he was taking a DUI test -- but this time he dove head-first straight into the bag. SAFE! The throw came from the other direction, so that must make it ok to violate all rules of fan comprehension...
  19. MLB Top 100 prospects just updated. Mayer #13, Anthony #37...Rafaela #78, Teel #88... Bleis is MIA (not in Miami). The Yankees have zero in the top #78. Jays only have two in the top 100. But the Orioles have four guys in the top 28, six in the top 55. Tampa has three middle infielders in the top 36; still?
  20. Freaking hypocrites. They love not loving, and hate hating. Can't we all just, like, like...
  21. We need someone good at building a Mr. Potato Head. At least no upside down mustaches.
  22. I'd like anyone who has ever umped at any level to explain that call on McGuire last night. I saw it live and watched the replay three times, and he ran directly down the chalk line through the middle of the bag at first base. If that's a violation of any kind, then everything we've ever been taught or have coached on baserunning has been wrong our entire lives. The obligation has always been on the defense to compensate in order to get the out and not hit the runner with the throw -- just like when the first baseman lines up a throw from the catcher on a sac bunt and yells, "Inside!" or if the first baseman is throwing to second trying to start a 3-6-3 DP.
