  1. pedroia's injury doesn't make it it any more likely. Again, it's just a silly notion.......
  2. Understood and that was not my debate. I was referring to the silly notion of him more apt to get hurt at 2nd than in the outfield.......
  3. But there's no proof to Jeter feeling this way aside from larry cook's post....... He may just be holding out for the best deal.
  4. While that may be true, Sheffield was the chip that would frontline a package for a durable starter. As far as the HR's are concerned, it's not only Yankee Stadium, but fenway, camden and toronto as well. That's a big difference than the AL West where safeco and oakland are very pitcher friendly.
  5. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/25331046/adrian-beltre-texas-rangers-announces-retirement
  6. I would say winning 100+ games already makes you a powerhouse.
  7. Does betts turn to glass if you move him to 2nd?!! Seriously, he has just as much chance getting spiked at 2nd as he does colliding with another OF'er or a wall.
  8. Not a big fan of this move. Paxton is already 30 and has never been able to pitch more than 160 innings in a season. With the ever present injury concerns with Tanaka and CC, I would have preferred someone with less durability concerns. Plus his HR rate spiked last season and he will be coming from a pitcher friendly park to Yankees Stadium, as well as fenway and camden.
  9. I'm not "scairt" of any "invaders" you imbecile. I just don't want to pay for them. And once again you try to troll to make it political, Youk should ban you for this already. You can defend it all you want, but the bottom line is papi is pretty tough to understand for the average viewer.
  10. Check what the price of commercial air time is. I would think it's going through the roof with all these new deals.
  11. That's fine, but you can't deny that he is pretty tough to understand for a large percentage of the viewing population.......
  12. It might help if we could understand what he's saying half the time. He's more of a character than a good analyst/announcer.
  13. But martinez doesn't have the PED allegations that have hurt more qualified players than papi.
  14. That's debatable ...... Snell was the majors only 21 game winner. His .178 average against and 219 ERA+ were the best in baseball. His 1.89 ERA was the best among AL qualifiers. He allowed 2 or fewer runs in 27 of 31 starts and 1 or none in 21. In 12 starts against the 5 AL playoff teams he went 9-2 with a 2.00 ERA.
  15. Hell no!! Madbum's walks are up, stikeouts per 9 are down, his innings pitched has fallen off dramatically. Plus I'm always leery of a pitcher coming from the NL to the AL with diminishing stuff. No way I sign him to a long term extension. I'd rather go for Kluber, who has shown no signs of slowing down (despite your age concerns), and is already under team control for multiple seasons on a team friendly contract.
  16. Kinda hard to say that about a team that just paid out almost $240M last year......
  17. I have to agree with you here, he's terrible on TV. And, unlike his playing days, he can't just drink a "milkshake" to fix his deficiencies......
  18. That's to be expected ...........
  19. I hope you heal fast, best wishes to you.
  20. One writer's take on the "cliff" The breaking up of the World Series Red Sox will begin fast By Joel Sherman November 8, 2018 | 12:13pm CARLSBAD, Calif. — Dave Dombrowski has the most dramatic disassembling of a champion on his ledger. In 1997, then-Marlins owner Wayne Huizenga claimed $30 million-ish in operating losses and was furious that the county would not finance a new stadium. He ordered his then-GM, Dombrowski, to trade all of his expensive players, who had just won the organization’s first title. By midseason 1998, Dombrowski had traded — among others — Moises Alou, Bobby Bonilla, Kevin Brown, Jeff Conine, Charles Johnson, Al Leiter, Robb Nen, Gary Sheffield and Devon White, slicing the payroll from $53 million to $13 million. By the time John Henry bought the club from Huizenga after the 1998 season, it had lost a franchise-record 108 games. This time, Dombrowski, Boston’s president of baseball operations, has Henry as the owner from the outset. And the payroll — a team record of about $238 million in 2018 — is likely to stay about the same and perhaps even go up, Dombrowski said. Still, Dombrowski conceded there are “tough decisions” this offseason and the near future because retaining the core for the next few years would probably blow the Red Sox payroll beyond $300 million, especially since they used many top prospects to add players such as Craig Kimbrel, Chris Sale and Drew Pomeranz and are not teeming with near-ready, inexpensive options to plug in. “It is unrealistic to think we can keep the now-2018 champion Red Sox together,” Dombrowski said. The Red Sox’s championship was timely because they are about to risk losing vital core pieces over the next few years. This offseason, closer Kimbrel and postseason stars Nathan Eovaldi, Joe Kelly and Steve Pearce are free agents. Next offseason, J.D. Martinez can opt out and join Sale, Xander Bogaerts, Rick Porcello, Mitch Moreland and Brock Holt in free agency. The next year, likely 2018 MVP Mookie Betts and Jackie Bradley Jr. are up. Of that group, Bogaerts and Betts perhaps feel most urgent to retain long term. “There are definitely guys we want to keep, but I am sure Washington wants to keep [bryce] Harper,” Dombrowski said. “It’s not easy. You can’t keep the same group together, but it doesn’t mean you can’t keep a championship-caliber team. We will never complain about finances. We have generous owners.” https://nypost.com/2018/11/08/the-breaking-up-of-the-world-series-red-sox-will-begin-fast/
  21. What indication is there that he will be a #3 starter in the next couple of years? And what's a better alternative on the market right now?
  22. He doesn't have much of an injury history and hasn't shown any sign of slowing down. And I believe his current contract with options is only for 3 more years, so it's not a very long term commitment. Bottom line is he is better than anyone else available that we know of.
  23. You have your head so far up your ass you are using your bellybutton as a porthole window.
  24. But we need 2 starters, just Corbin ain't gonna cut it. Obviously Happ is another option as well. But Kluber is a stud, nobody else in the free agent market comes close.
