  1. I had posted that I was from now on going to refer to Benintendi as Pops due to his frequent pop-ups. Bellhorn recommended amending to Boston Pops. Welcome to Andrew's world
  2. I do wonder about Boston Pops chances against most any pitcher right now
  3. Could Holt have pulled off the DP ? He would have needed a firm foothold and the legal slide took him off balance. Pedey would have tried anyway.
  4. Big Rick showing the flip side of the coin so far. He can be so good and so bad. Either get a DP here or pull him for Weber
  5. Yeah, Cleveland is underperforming poorly
  6. This set with Cleveland is an opportunity for a sweep. 2 wins is the minimum for any level of success. First inning does not look brilliant starting off.
  7. The people I know who recently had replacements done 5 years after microfracture were over 50 at the time, so no disagreement there. Pedey may have other options as artificial joint repair/replacement becomes even more refined in the future.
  8. Pedey will come to learn after another year or two of limited knee function and accompanying pain that a partial or full knee replacement will give him great relief . I do know personally two people who had the microfracture process with PRP about 5 years ago, did actually generate some limited cartilage growth, were routinely active for a couple years before it degenerated again. One had a partial replacement and the other a full in the last 2 months, now fully functional and pain free aside from the surgery itself healing. At 35, Pedey may be a little early for replacement or he will likely need it again later in life. He will eventually be fine and is already wealthy. He gets the money, clears up the uncertainty, opens the 40 man slot and will be welcome around Fenway . Managerial material after 2021 ? Not IMO.
  9. Can Brock Holt come back with some level of effectiveness ? I'm sure he'll get a chance but Cora always have favored playing Nunez.
  10. Buckner succumbs to his disease and Pedey effectively "retires" as an active player on the same day. Glad that Bill was able to eventually get reconciliation with Boston over the '86 WS. He did not lose game 6 nor 7. Lots of other failures brough that disappointing result.
  11. It looks like Dustin is 90% of the way to accepting that he cannot play on any basis. Give him some time and he will most likely take the PUP list designation (NFL terminology) . End of a lifetime Red Sox career. I'm sure he'll be around the team at times, maybe with Chavis learning second.
  12. Not necessarily the right thread, but now with Holt back and having been very inactive, Cora and the FO need to see if he can hit between now and the trade deadline (not that Brock will bring a lot, except perhaps in a package deal) Brock's early 16 AB's in 6 games showed nothing working, like many of his teammates at that point. The division of time between Chavis, Holt and Nunez will get interesting
  13. That didn't last long. Holt up-Darwinzon down. His shot will come soon enough.
  14. Shaw and Middlebrooks each had an early flash that showed great promise which eventually burned out and sent them out of Boston. Shaw had the one good year in Milwaukee, but no more. Panda flashed elsewhere and got very fat and lazy in Boston. Now to the contrary, Devers appears to be improving in all aspects of his game which is very welcome. If there is a key to avoiding the flash in pan rookie and projecting HoF at 23 , I hope the Sox apply it to Michael Chavis and further develop a long term successful player at whatever position, including DH if necessary.
  15. Maybe it is time for the ultimate payback ....1978. Let's get way behind then blow them out in a one-gamer.
  16. A combination of common sense and the reality of the situation. I still think it would be realistic to give Pedey the rest of the year on the 60 day list, keep physically fit by swimming and see what it is like next ST.
  17. If successful today, Walden will have pitched 50% more innings than Matt Barnes, never lost a game, credited with 6 wins, has a better stat line.
  18. From now on, I'm referring to Andrew B simply as Pops, as in continually pops out.
  19. Great extra run pickup from the bottom of the lineup. It continues to make a huge difference when 7-8-9 contribute.
  20. Barnes, what can you say ?
  21. Walking Kemp tells you a lot. Guess it was so he could challenge Bregman
  22. When batting, how is it that catchers do not pick up the spin on a breaking ball when it's out of the pitchers hand. Vaz chases the same unhittable pitch twice.
  23. No matter what else happens in the 8th and 9th, EROD outdueled Verlander. Further, with a little more hitting, the Sox could outscore the Astros for the three games while dropping 2 of 3. That's the difference between 2018 and this season.
  24. I will concede the irrational relationship between cause and effect. It may also include the starters getting their ST work in a little late, the 11 game road trip to open, some home cooking, a few hitters waking up, and yes, Chavis's 10 HR and 26 rbi's helped. Still doesn't change the fact that he has some predictable maturing to do as a hitter. He is starting from a better base than many of his contemporaries. I also don't see him as real liability on defense as some do. He will be on the field and in the lineup for a good while to come.
