  1. Duvall failed to get there and make a good play, then sort of short armed his reach. Then he fouled out with 2 men on.
  2. JBJr would have caught that ball . Duran may have. Duvall, forget it
  3. Good thing defense is an emphasis. Oh wait, Cora and Bloom said it will be next ST.
  4. Duran has too much size to play MLB level. He looses the balls too much
  5. I'm glad Urias replaced Arroyo so the team can go back to the no-hit, small person model . If Urias and Chang could combine their stats they would be hitting .298/1.040. Real studs with the bat
  6. I think given the excitement over the trade deadline non-deals and bringing up Urias, the enthusiasm over the final 2 months will be tangible .. Start all the remaining threads because the scent of another August letdown is palpable. Paxton is showing that enthusiasm in his work tonight
  7. 3 outs on 11 pitches, fabulous. Only 2 balls that can't be recycled digging the 1st inning trench again
  8. 104 pitches in 5 innings ? Well, it is still 1-0, and obviously Paxton has enough stamina to get it that far. Score some runs, please for a win. Jays win, Yanks beating O's mid 5. Rays down 5-0 to Astros bottom 5
  9. JP had Matos totally screwed but flick the bat out and get a dribbler for a hit. You can only skate on this ice so far
  10. Sure glad that the Angels decided to hold on to Ohtani and add some real studs to help him and the team get to the playoffs. Err, too bad about that trip to Toronto where they lose again today. Ohtani will have a nice Fall back in Nippon, considering his multi-hundred million dollar offers.
  11. We used to be worried about crossing the "bridge year". Now the river of skilled prospects is flowing deep. By 2025 ST this team may be seeing some strong internal competition for positions. As long as that includes starting pitching from young healthy guys , the Sox may escape the loop of worst to first back to worst every other year. Bloom's roster finally seems cohesive and alive led by J. Turner , a needed vet amongst the young guys. Bloom also (finally) got lucky that Duran self determined to play the game right, and Casas has become an aggressive hitter. Bello shows talent that can be upgraded even further. The retreads and deadwoods of the IL league are fading away and will all be gone by 2025. I would keep the "Fire Bloom" thread alive, not to advocate it's literal meaning but to be a reminder of what it looks like when our team has no depth or serious MiLB prospects . Also , a soft spot for Ol' Blake Swihart and his ghost ! Blake being only one of several prematurely detonated Sox prospects over the past 10 years.
  12. Lance Lynn and infamous Joe Kelly to the Dodgers for Trayce Thompson and 2 minor league pitchers. Dodgers making moves to keep on top of the NL West
  13. Story will be at SS. If Chang is in the Red Sox starting lineup for 2024 Bloom is not doing his job well over the winter. Chang on the bench as the utility IF'er, maybe ok, but even then there should be better options. After all, Kike will be a free agent this winter !
  14. No, you don't need a note from your doctor. I do think you need concurrence from your player, in the general sense, because you are in effect ending their season at this point, possibly messing up any performance bonuses, etc. If Kluber is not physically able to pitch at an MLB level ( much less AAA) then he would be likely to go along with any program that does not embarass him any further. In the hypothetical, a 60 day IL designation would seem better for him than a DFA tag. He'll get paid either way. If a 60 day IL assignment for anyone did not require some degree of confirmation of physical ailment, then it would be too easy to solve roster issues by using them generously. I am sure it has been abused from time to time.
  15. Kudos to Justin Turner , who at 38, has played in 98 of 102 games so far this year providing coverage at 3 positions while hitting .840 OPS with 66 rbi's. Congrats to Turner and Bloom for getting him. It will be interesting to see what happens with his player option for 2024 costing $13.4 million if he plays or a $6.4 million buyout.
  16. I will speculate that Kluber could easily reach a position where the Sox will DFA him in order to manage the 40 man roster slots. Or find a willing doctor to justify a 60 day IL assignment, like Kaleb Ort just did to make room for former Giant Mauricio Llovera .
  17. Sweeping the Braves--what an outcome ! Now to win 4 of 6 out west , followed by a sweep of the Jays at Fenway.
  18. I was thinking that when down 3-2, 2 on , 2 outs there is no one I'd rather see batting than Justin Turner from this roster.
  19. Verdugos entire body language is so atypical of where he was in May/June. He's beaten down. Not looking right at all
  20. Need to get the singles right before the HR next time around. This game has the makings of a 9th inning walkoff by the home team. Need it that way due to Yankees leading Mets 3-1 in 7th
  21. Casas cashes the check to score one.
  22. It would be a good step forward if Alex Verdugo can regain his earlier productive hitting form. Last 15 games (55AB's) have only produced a .477 OPS. He was a sparkplug at the top of the lineup previously, a role now nicely filled by Jarren Duran. My last comment on the King of Pops, Kike: So nice to see a lineup that he is not in.
  23. Bloom's move of sending Kike to the 2nd largest city in Alta Mexico cements Bloom in the pantheon of truly great CBO's .
  24. Great streak you have the team on, Splinter . A win tonight and the next 60 games would be a nice way to finish the regular season. Last night's overall pitching and hitting made for a great game
  25. Some guys get the yips and can't throw to first ( see Knoblauch and Lester) . Pivetta has a psychological block against starting. Too much time to think beforehand. Let him run out the season as a 5 inning shutdown ace.
