  1. As Jim Morrison said, this is the end , my friend A losing season on all fronts, home and away. But a win today would at least match 2022's lack of success. Otherwise, this year was regressive despite all the enthusiasm for the young players getting experience and exposure . Maybe another good outing from 5-10 Tanner "In yo' face" Houck would be encouraging. To cap it off, for those that liked him or didn't, Tim Wakefield passed away from his just announced brain cancer. Maybe that explains some of his quiet moments on broadcasts this year. No way he did not know the ultimate call to the bullpen was on its way
  2. There is still hope!! With a big win tomorrow the Red Sox can match the wonderful 2022 W-L record of 78-84, 6 full games below .500 , ending a miserable September. Given the utter lack of improvement in the only meaningful stat ,W & L's, it is no longer surprising that the nerd Bloom got fired. Many enjoy beating the dead horse that Chaim became but as more and more comments get out , some of the guesses as to conflict between Bloom and Cora, plus Bloom's "can't pull the trigger" paralysis of the analysis mentality , and his corresponding lack of people skills are all in the narrative. I expect some juicy off season examples to come out.
  3. Winck had been going pretty well but is in line for the loss tonight
  4. 3 runs scored in last 33 innings , 2 on 1 HR. They haven't quit, they just have low motivation and ability
  5. Sox hitters , attention: RISP, what does that mean to me ? Not much to you it appears
  6. Crawford looks very good through 5
  7. Glad the season is ending within about 24 hours, for the Sox, not every team. I need a break from Verdugo's 2Ks and a DP style of hitting. If there is a package deal including a reliable pitcher, let Dugo go before he costs $8 million next year
  8. You might question the opponents motivations this late, but Crawford is joining Sale, Pivetta, and Houck in providing a very good shutout style start, at least through today.
  9. WTF is Turner doing trying to steal second on Rutschman with 2 outs ? Makes little sense, w2ith Devers on 3rd.
  10. Duvall would have been as productive if he tried to make his triple an inside the park HR. Who knows, maybe 3 bad relay throws and he would have scored. That wasn't going to happen with Story and Valdez following his 3 base hit. Mo' LOB/RISP
  11. Bulletin: m This just in, Yoshida hits a ground ball to the right side and is thrown out. If this legal alien does not work very hard to hit the ball to the left side , he will be a waste of a signing.
  12. Cora has plugged in Whitlock to pitch the 8th , so Nick Pivetta's successful season, IMO has concluded . He should be a key element of the pitching staff next year , either starting or following an opener. Whitlock mows down the O's on 12 pitches. You think Orioles are perhaps less than motivated today ?
  13. Dalbec has crossed over the 50% K rate in this last effort to show himself as an MLB hitter. 27 K's in 47 AB's , but with 4 walks. I honestly wonder what his record would be if he just never swung at anything. He would increase his OBP. As others have said, he can come off the 40 roster sooner than later.
  14. 7 inning , 2 hit shutout for Pivetta on about 86 pitches. With Chris Martin on IR, Nick should get to come out for the 8th. Then maybe see the elusive Kenley Jansen , who has pitches a total of 1 inning ( 3 appearances ) since September 12. In those 3 games, Kenley gave up a walkoff HR, 3 total runs and 2 walks. Hope he's not rusty
  15. J. Means has a perfect game through4 innings, but Pivetta is nearly matching him at end of 4. Only egregiously bad ball/strike calls from Alan Porter led to a walk to go with the one hit given up by Nick. Nick only has thrown 50 pitches through 4. He could go ALL THE WAY and rest that precious bullpen. This just in: Refsnyder gets a double breaking up the no-no. Now if only they could score that RISP. HOLY MACARONI: Trevor Story homers to score himself and Refsnyder. I guess now there is a reason to reassemble the band in Ft. Myers next February
  16. Per the Talksox unwritten rules, I'm not starting a 9/29 game thread but just continue on this one. FYI---Sox are 9 up/9down, no hit through 3 extending their scoreless string to 22 innings. Meanwhile Pivetta is trying to match, except for having given up 1 hit so far.
  17. Like Baltimore, the D'backs suffered through some bad years , but are now back in the playoffs in NL. maybe the same can happen in Boston next year.
  18. Doesn't the commitment by the team ( Kennedy) to Cora and his own statements seem to imply that the CBO role will come out of the Sox organization ? Otherwise, if they were hiring an outsider to reenergize the program , I would expect them to be more cautious in making decisions for him. It all appears that JH has a heavy thumb on this organization . They might wind up with the next Bloom. A young executive just glad to be there. If they do stay in house, you are going to see more committee type action than strong personality.
  19. It actually turns into a 12 game road trip including the final 2 ST games played in Texas , plus 2 travel days , one before and one after the Ranger games. The guys will be away from their regular or full season homes from mid-February until April 8.
  20. '68 Cubs and a Philadelphia A team have both racked up 48 consecutive scoreless innings, so even if Boston is shutout in the remaining 3 games , they cannot reach any record territory . Why does it matter---because if this group doesn't have enough self pride for just one of them to hit a HR , they all should be remembered as inept ass clowns Devers protects the streak now at 18 innings .
  21. Only to the extent that the same non-performers will show up in Ft. Myers in February saying the same old things---we need to be better, I need to work on ...., this is a good team , etc, etc.
  22. 17 innings of consecutive no runs. How bad will it get ?
  23. So the shutouts continue---now at 16 innings without 1 f'ing run. Yet another wasted excellent start by the much maligned Red Sox starters Illinois had it right in yesterday's thread. This team quit on themselves and more importantly the FO after the deadline . Kenley's comments should wake someone up. The current group can be referred to as losers without being hyperbolic. Having said that, the Sox will come back to win this one and postpone the O's celebration.
  24. Certainly sorry to hear about the health concerns for Wakefield. I know many here didn't care for his efforts on broadcasts, but i for one appreciated his efforts on the mound for many years in a Sox uniform. Good luck to him to get cured.
  25. Freakin Chris Sale to dominate AL East best Just like the Sox have to play out their own meaningless schedule, so must the Game Threads be 162 or we would be not good fans
