    Sox need to sign a good right handed bat like Alonso, get rid of Yoshida (if possible), sign another starter and another good bullpen guy. That might get them into the playoffs if their young guys continue to get better.

    If the Sox aren't able to extend him or if he is a bust, this trade will go down as one of the worst in recent times. Maybe not Bagwell worthy, but possible if Teel and/or Montgomery turn out to be All-Stars.

    Montgomery is a power hitting switch hitter. All American. Can throw 95+. I hate the fact that they put him in the deal. They didn't even see what he could do as a professional due to his ankle injury. Dumb move.

    He is a weak hitting DH. DH needs to hit 30 HRs and drive in 100.

    Besides Anthony, that's the lineup they had last year. That lineup is a last place team unless they sign 2 Cy Young winners and a Fireman Of the Year.

    Montgomery put up huge power numbers in college and, because of injury, hasn't even played for the Red Sox yet. They aren't going to trade him without seeing him in action.

    The Royals told him they were going to give him a QO so he immediately signed a 3 year deal. With the QO, his market would have dried up.

    It means an average pitcher like Pivetta is going to make 21 million next year.

    Cole was always going to opt out in order to get the extra year and 36 million. No brainer for him.
