Sox need to sign a good right handed bat like Alonso, get rid of Yoshida (if possible), sign another starter and another good bullpen guy. That might get them into the playoffs if their young guys continue to get better.
If the Sox aren't able to extend him or if he is a bust, this trade will go down as one of the worst in recent times. Maybe not Bagwell worthy, but possible if Teel and/or Montgomery turn out to be All-Stars.
Montgomery is a power hitting switch hitter. All American. Can throw 95+. I hate the fact that they put him in the deal. They didn't even see what he could do as a professional due to his ankle injury. Dumb move.
Go watch the video of the game this past season where Robert fails to even try to throw home as the winning run tags and scores on a fly ball. Do NOT want this guy anywhere near the Sox. NO, NO, NO!
I like it. Now sign Trevor Bauer! What's the difference. Give Bauer the chance to get back into baseball. Never charged, never convicted. Never liable civilly. Still can pitch. Will come cheap.
Montgomery put up huge power numbers in college and, because of injury, hasn't even played for the Red Sox yet. They aren't going to trade him without seeing him in action.
