In fairness to Breslow, besides Alonso, what other hitter should he really have gone after? Bregman?? He has been a bust so far with the Cubs. That contract looks really bad. Schwarber was never leaving Philly. What other good hitter was out there? He got Contreras who has been good. Durbin has been terrible but has come to life the last month.
What an idiotic challenge by Siegler. Your pitcher has a no-hitter going in a 2-0 game and you challenge the first pitch of your meaningless AB. What an idiot.
Durbin has to try to score on the wild pitch. He would have scored. Worst case scenario, he is out but the Sox still have second and third and one out. Now, after the pop out by Mayer, there is a good chance they don't score.
Mayer has not lived up to the hype of being the #4 overall draft pick. I think its too early to write him off but if he doesn't stay healthy and have a good season in 2027, then it may be time to say, he will never be what he was advertised to be.
He has raised his batting average over 40 points and is showing some power. All in about 3-4 weeks. I would say that is great improvement. Prior to that, he was the worst hitter in baseball.
How in the world is that scored a base hit. Mayer looked like a scared little leaguer trying to get out of the way. That is an error all the way. Baseball's scoring has totally changed to favor the hitter and not make the fielders feel bad. F**K the pitchers ERA.
