  1. I wonder if he's any relation to Ponce?
  2. The ERA and WHIP surprises me. I thought the SOX would be closer to 30th in both. That the SOX rotation has given up more hits than any other rotation doesn't surprise me at all.
  3. Concerning the upcoming 4 game series in Toronto: Good news: There can only be 15,000 fans in the ballpark. Bad news: No chance of rainouts. Now that the magic and mojo are gone, the SOX only have reality, and reality won't be their friend.
  4. Ted was in real life what John Wayne could only pretend to be in movies.
  5. I define 'great athletes' as individuals who excelled at more than one sport. In that respect, I would place Bo Jackson 2nd to Jim Brown, but obviously, that's just my opinion. Another, whose name hasn't been mentioned, is Dave Winfield, who was also an excellent college basketball player at Minnesota.
  6. "Gibson doesn't come close." Besides having an exceptional career in baseball, including his winning the NL MVP in 1988, Mr Gibson was inducted into the college football hall of fame in 2017. He still holds pass receiving records at his alma mater Michigan State. So, I'd say he comes pretty close. And almost forgot; before Gibby had his serious leg injury, he was one of the fastest runners in baseball, who could also hit for power.
  7. There's a reason the Tigers have that won/lost record.
  8. Maybe the SOX can build some momentum after tonight, although they should have scored more than 4 runs. Baby steps, I guess.
  9. If I was asked who was the greatest athlete I ever saw, I would respond with Jim Brown. Besides being a phenominal football player, he was also a fantastic lacrosse player and an excellent college boxer. In fact. many lacrosse rules were changed because of Mr Brown.
  10. Getting the feed from Detroit and one of the guys in the booth is Kirk Gibson. One of the best athletes of his generation. A great baseball player and a great football player. Similar in that respect to Bo Jackson.
  11. Fun fact: Ottavino leads the AL in holds.
  12. Well, to be honest, there was only one big O and that was Oscar Robertson.
  13. Thought that was a Dalbec HR. Btw, he didn't keep his facial hair for very long.
  14. If I'm not mistaken, the last SOX timely/clutch hit was Dugo's 2 run game winning HR, which seems like months ago.
  15. Or if Schoop dropped the 'c' and replaced the 'h' with an 'l', he'd be the Sloop John B.
  16. Well, the Rays have pretty much proven so far this season that timely hitting is sustainable. Whether timely and clutch are the same thing; that's where the argument would come in.
  17. Obviously, relief pitchers don't have their good stuff every time they're called, but Taylor has had his good stuff more than most this season.
  18. Timely=Clutch? A good thing to argue.
  19. Unwritten rule; never compliment a SOX pitcher until he's officially out of the game.
  20. Quality, not quantity. Or in baseball terms timely hitting; something the SOX haven't displayed in quite a while. I can't prove the following is true, but I know it is. The Rays lead the league in timely hitting.
  21. That last strike was pretty much unhittable.
  22. The SOX have 3 HR's, 3 doubles, 1 triple and 3 singles for a total of 4 runs, so far. That just doesn't seem to correlate.
  23. Good news: SAW got out of the inning. Bad news: 22 pitches.
