A side note on the Herb Score injury. Gil McDougald, who hit Score in the eye with his liner, at the time stated he would retire from baseball if Score's vision didn't return to his injured eye.
On deck batters and pitchers are most at risk for serious injuries on hard hit balls. Herb Score was more closely related to what happened to Houck, except Score was hit in the eye. He did recover and didn't lose eyesight in his injured eye, but he was never the same pitcher afterwards.
Batters are the most at risk for serious injuries. Anyone who says baseball isn't a physically dangerous game is an idiot.
Vegas was just repeating what many on this board have already been saying, including myself. If the SOX get into another losing streak(hopefully not) those criticisms will come back around. But, like you said, enjoy the moment. Sweeping the Yankems is always a delight.
I agree it's a relatively small SS, but can you name a starter, drafted by the SOX, and pitching for the SOX, who has been as effective as Bello has been this far since Buchholz?
