    Let's take a deep breath, step back from the cliff and look at the positive side of things. Now that the season is half over, there is only 144 million left on his contract. Cue up Annie singing "the sun will come up tomorrow".

    I would think locking up Sale for five more years would come before Betts. He has shown to be durable with that Pedro-like wiry frame and having him as 1-2 with Price would solidify the rotation. 5 for 160 would make him just a touch above what Price is getting and I think he would forgo free agency for that.

    Maybe the thought is that Pedey is not back this year. Expose him to waivers ala Rusney castillo, no one wants to take on his contract. He is dropped from the 40 man so his salary does not count against the luxury tax limit. Then unlike Castillo, the Sox can bring him back next year when some money is off the books. Of course Pedey can refuse the assignment but if he knows it's only temporary he may agree.

    Now we know why he hasn't signed on with any club yet. He is doing the Ricky Williams worldwide "self-actualization" tour.

    It seems to me that Rusney Castillo should be a fit for somebody, even if all the Sox get back is a low level minors guy to restock.

    Put Pedey on the Pablo/Hanley/Rusney bus to "sunk cost" city.

    It is intuitively obvious to even the most casual observer that Hanley is content to sit on his ass and collect his money. He will sit out the majority of the season, see if a contender wants him in late August, then enjoy the ride and publicity in a possible post season run to up his value for next year.

    The way Bradley is going it may make sense to use the pitcher as the DH. I can't wait to see how Scott Borass puts lipstick on this particular pig when he is a free agent.

    The Sox will win it all this year as a matter of fact in another ho hum 4-0 world series against the Rockies. Hanley will blow out a knee in August with about 468 plate appearances, Swihart will be traded to the Mets for Steven Matz, Brock Holt will be joining the Panda Express after he is released when Pedey comes back. Most importantly, the street named after that evil racist Tom Yawkey will be changed to "Joe Kelly Way" after he plunks Tyler Austin once every Yankee series "just for fun" while saying "come at me bro".

    No trade. Ride him out until his walk year, make the qualifying offer, let Borass fill his noggin with visions of 200 million then take the draft pick.

    Because he won't be hitting like that next year so in essence he is making 44 million for this year if his option vests.
