It depends on what you want. If you want someone good you’re probably going to have to part with at least one guy in then 5-10 range.

Sox have room, if eating salary reduces the prospects needed they should do it.

What I meant was, I don’t think Bloom will do that. Apparently Sox are looking at hitters. I’d be ok with a rental, but if I’m buying multiple years of control I’d prefer a pitcher too. Also, apparently the system is ranked #5 now. If Anthony keeps this up he could move himself into blue chip territory.

Kelly and Bernardino didn’t move the needle in the system in anyways and Winckowski is turning out to be a better player than he was a prospect. But yes, the others hurt. Bello wasn’t eligible for prospect status by only a few innings this year. Sox could of been looking at an additional first round pick next year if they didn’t eff that up

Kike is fine in the lineup, it’s starting him at SS that is bad. I’d be willing to bet if Kike was used as a utility guy his slash line would be much better. Wouldn’t mind seeing the Sox trade for a SS, maybe Rosario and put story at 2nd when he’s back letting kike be the utility guy.

Thinking Sale/Houck will come back and save us is the most Bloom thing ever. I suspect a reliever.

Right, so you don’t extend that guy. You take your 6 years of team control and call it a day. But I do think his defense could still be improving.

Striking out 1/4 of the time alone isn’t a huge concern, a lot of power hitters do that. He makes really hard contact and has good plate discipline. I’m not worried. You could be selling high, he could also still be getting better too. He’s so young, and we have no certainty in our outfield into the future.

Guys who make hard contact and have speed often have higher BABIPs. Also, his defense gives him a higher floor. I don’t trust him to be an all star level player, but I trust him to be an average CF who can get hot at times for the league minimum

This is Blooms MO, he signs underslot guys he likes to spread the money around. He signed Yorke so he could get Jordan, and he signed Romero so he could get Anthony. It was all the talk before the 2021 draft, I believe the first to report it was Baseball America that reported the Sox had a strong interest in him and were looking to cut a deal with him.

Why? Chang at SS seems to set the defense, they’ve been excellent with him there. And Duran has evolved into an average center fielder putting much higher floor on him. He also could be still getting better there

Duran is under team control for 5 years why would you sell him? Verdugo is the outfielder you sell if you’re sellers

Yes Bloom did what everyone expected him to do. We will never know what would have been if he didn’t take Mayer. Oh wait! We kind of do. Bloom had an under slot deal in place with college short stop Matt McLain who is currently a MLB SS with the reds. Plus bat, plus defense, candidate for ROY. That underslot strategy is what has led to guys like Jordan and now Anthony who is a stud. Critique Bloom all you want, his drafts have been great so far.

We haven’t even had those marginal guys hit, yeah we got a Matt Barnes. You need pen guys too. Aside from Pitching Bloom has had a top pick become a top 100 in every draft. Including this one if Teel ends up ranked. Yorke Mayer Anthony That’s pretty good

Obviously pitching is not our forte, but maybe that is changing because there are som which upside guys these and we are starting to see some success now with Bello/Houck/Whitlock/Wink+ You’d be surprised how bad some other systems are too, developing pitching is the hardest thing to do. Good systems get it in my many different ways, it’s not always wasting your first draft pick as some would say. Identifying and bringing a guy like Whitlock in is the exact thing that good systems do.

Pitching is a weakness in the system, at least compared to the position side. But to say there are no prospects with upside is just false. Aside from Perales, Wilkeman Gonzalez, and Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz have upside. There’s other pitching prospects, but these guys have a lot of upside, particularly Perales. FWIW he’s ranked much higher than Bello was when he was his age.

Exactly, people seem to only think of the upside with Ohtani and don't see the equally huge downside that could come with it. We see how the Chris Sale contract has hurt us, imagine having two Chris Sales.
