  1. The Red Sox traded Mookie Betts because they did not want to spend the money it would have taken to keep him. Plain and simple. For a proud, big market franchise it was a competitive and public relations blunder. The money is there. This year it is going to guys like Story and Kluber.
  2. Old Red, The wolf pack Is on the prowl today. Be careful.
  3. Down goes Anderson. Down goes Anderson.
  4. Generally, the GM makes the calls on trades. Maybe he told Henry that was his plan. Maybe Henry did order Bloom to trade Mookie, but he has never admitted it. Is it that Bloom has made every trade except for Betts? That one was above his level?
  5. Always a good idea to have team meetings, manager pep talks or wear the good luck uniforms before a series against one of the worst teams in MLB. Makes it look like it worked.
  6. It's the computer age now. It was more fun in the old days when there would always be kids outside Fenway hawking tickets for the scalpers.
  7. Has John Henry ever said that it was on his orders that Mookie was traded ? Because you keep posting that like it is a known fact.
  8. The comments and reactions on here are comparatively mild and polite when you look at X ( fka Twitter ) . Sox fans on a rampage and looking for blood.
  9. Anyway, the Sox had the Jays on the ropes and without their closer , but somehow found a way to mess it up.
  10. Meanwhile, the Sox have ( hopefully temporarily) slipped behind the Yankees and back into the basement.
  11. Try as some folks may, there is no way you can spin trading Mookie Betts into a wise move.
  12. Verdugo is a pretty good ballplayer, who has at times shown what can most generously be described as " immaturity ." I will leave it at that.
  13. Will trading Mookie be Bloom's legacy ?
  14. Sox are reaching a make or break part of the schedule. A number of games against some of the weakest teams this side of Oakland. This could be their best chance to make a real run at it. If they play well, they could win all or nearly all of the games. If they don't play well ................................
  15. I read that Verdugo was very late getting to the ballpark. Don't know if there is more to it than that, but based on Cora's reaction, maybe there was.
  16. Verdugo out of the lineup against a right hander. No explanation as yet.
  17. The Mariners have quietly become a factor in the wild card race.
  18. That is true of so many topics on here.
  19. No. They did quite well without them .
  20. The Phillies are in a tight, multi team wild card race. Evidently, they did not want to use a roster space for Song. I think it is good to have him back. He still might amount to something.
  21. Losing Bichette and Romano is a serious blow to the Jay's playoff hopes.
  22. It doesn't matter whether the quality of the teams is good or bad, one team will win the game and the other will lose. Happens every time.
  23. If you watch the Blue Jays enough you will see that they are not a very good team. The Orioles just beat them up in Toronto. Now they are without their best player ( Bichette) and their closer ( Romano ). It really should not be too hard to pass them in the standings. I fully expect the Sox to do that.
