  1. By the way, the much maligned David Price was a whole heck of a lot better than most of the jabronis we have been running out there the last few seasons.
  2. Ballplayers salaries are made public information , so we expect them to be " worth it. " Most people don't have to deal with that. We don't really know how much money the owners are making, but it has been speculated that the Red Sox are worth 5 billion and upwards on the market. But they are afraid of the dreaded " luxury tax. " Meanwhile, the owners and MLB in general bleed every last dollar they can out of the fans. That is why there are three wild cards. That is why you can pay to subscribe to NESN or the Extra Innings package and find out that some games are blacked out and some are only available on Prime, Apple+ or Peacock. That is why you are paying high ticket and ridiculous consession prices. That is why you can buy an overpriced jersey of your kid's favorite player only to see that the player has been traded because " we " could no longer afford to pay him. And so it goes.
  3. When the trade was made, some fans ( not sure if you were one of them ) were saying that the Sox would still sign Mookie the following off season.
  4. It seems crazy to say , but the Yankees are easier to beat right now than the Nationals.
  5. The Sox have not been playing very well, but the Yankees are in free-fall. Looks like they have quit on the season and are packing it in. Even Aaron Judge is quoted as saying, " We have not been showing up. " Advantage : Red Sox. No reason not to take all three games in the boogie down this weekend.
  6. He was still under contract for 2020. Still had time to sign him. Even as a free agent. There was no urgency to trade him. If you want to be a big time team, you want to be a big time owner, spend what it takes to be that.
  7. Memo to mvp: Nothing that is posted on here has any effect on anything.
  8. Memo to Bloom: Don't trade Casas. Memo to Cora: Play Casas and Duran every day. Memo to John Henry: Where are you ? Are you in hiding ? Come on out now . Memo to fans: Don't quit now. Three games out of the third wild card is not an impossible situation.
  9. There are not enough excuses, not enough spin and not enough b.s. in the world to justify trading Mookie Betts. It was a colossal blunder by Bloom , Henry or both. Nothing we can do about it now.
  10. Is it my imagination or are there fewer switch-hitters than there used to be?
  11. It has been said that the blown save losses can be more devastating to a team than other defeats. I think the crushing meltdown last Sunday took all of the air out of the Yankees. They look like you can stick a fork in them. Completely beaten and demoralised.
  12. Winning these games against the bottom feeders of MLB can help to build some winning momentum for the tougher opponents to come. The team gets on a roll and plays with a lot of confidence. Very important in any endeavor.
  13. With a guy like Yoshida it could be that pitchers have found a weakness and are exploiting it. Sitting down for a couple of days and watching film with the batting coach can help him adjust. No problem with that.
  14. The problem here is that people are taking what was clearly a satirical post about " buying low " by Stephen Curry and getting all worked up over it. As for Wander Franco; we should wait until all of the facts come out before condemning him. But it is another example of why you should be careful about putting anyone on a pedestal. Athletes are no different than anyone else. A lot of good people but definitely some rotten apples as well.
  15. It is natural that a batter would feel more comfortable standing in against an opposite hand pitcher.
  16. Other than pitchers and catchers, it is really not too exhausting for an athlete to play a baseball game. I think the scheduled days off are more an organizational policy than they are a manager's decision. No doubt management has some data that shows that the days off are beneficial . And the manager pretty much has to adhere to the organizational policy. It is pretty obvious that MLB managers do not have the authority that they once did.
  17. The poster known as Stephen Curry has an offbeat and interesting sense of humor. This was clearly satire. I don't think he actually wants to acquire Franco.
  18. I think Cashman is an honorary Steinbrenner. Boone is more likely to be the fall guy in the Bronx.
  19. The Yanks with an epic meltdown in Miami. Their closer blew a four-run lead in the ninth in a devastating loss. The players appeared to be shell shocked. In one of the all-time hilarious post-game comments, Boone actually said, " A lot of good things happened out there today. "
  20. They currently have an eight game winning streak against some pretty good opponents.
  21. I have been looking forward to this soft stretch in the schedule as a chance for the Sox to make a serious run for a playoff spot. So far, they are doing what they have to do. Don't let up now. Hopefully , they can build some winning momentum for the tougher opponents down the road.
  22. The Mariners seem to be coming on strong , while the Blue Jays are fading. Seattle actually has fewer losses than Toronto.
  23. Jansen and Martin are what gives this team a shot . Jansen has 26 saves , almost half of the Sox wins. Martin has been excellent in his role. Still 47 games left to play. Last year, the saves leader for the full season had just 8 saves. You didn't even know who was going to close half the time.
  24. A memorable moment for Lorenzen and his family. He is a very strong guy who should be able to handle the pitch count. But if he falters, you can be sure that fans will blame Thompson for leaving him in. Even some of the same fans who complain about players being coddled. That's just how it is.
