  1. If excuses for Bloom's failure were nickels , I would have enough for season tickets to Fenway.
  2. Bloom is like your Uncle Jack. He was a general nuisance and didn't have much success. He got drunk and ruined Thanksgiving dinner. Only a few folks liked him. Then he died. Now, they are looking for nice things to say. "Uncle Jack had a lot of problems. Can't blame him for drinking. And I remember the time he helped us move and painted the basement. And he bought the kids gifts on their birthdays. He wasn't such a bad guy. Sorry to see him go."
  3. You should not get a passing grade when you finish in last place.
  4. It has been a forgone conclusion for a while, but a Toronto win tonight would officially, mathematically eliminate the Sox from the third wild card.
  5. Too many defensive metrics out there. How reliable are they ? OAA for heaven sakes. Which pencil neck geek came up with that one ?
  6. The owner can spend the bucks to field a contender. When it comes down to post season games, there is nothing the owner can do. It comes down to the manager's moves and the player's performance. Often it comes down to one inning, one pitch, one at bat or one play. Or just a little luck.
  7. Too much talk about Devers. He is the best player on the team. He is not the problem. The problem is the starting pitching and the failure to adequately replace Bogaerts at shortstop. To me, that was/is obvious. I think Bloom knew that was the problem , but he just did not have the right answers. Obviously, Kluber, Paxton and Kike were not the solution. Time to try again.
  8. He might want to leave that part off of his resume' when applying for his next job.
  9. The N.D. offense was able to wear down an undermanned Cent. Mjch. defense. Estime is another Bettis and Hartman made some really nice deep throws. But the defense was kind of spotty and the tackling left much to be desired. Ohio St. will obviously be a much tougher nut to crack.
  10. Unless the Sox can pass the Yankees in the final two weeks of another lost season , it will be six last place finishes in the past eight non - Dombrowski years.
  11. Congrats to former Sox stalwarts Mookie, J.D. , Kike , Brasier and Joe " Fight Club " Kelly on clinching the N.L. West title.
  12. Welcome to The Family Feud. Here is your host, Richard Dawson.
  13. He didn't give away the farm. He just separated the wheat from the chaff.
  14. How legit are the farm rankings anyway ? If you took all of the jabronis that Dombrowski traded and put them on one team, I doubt they could win the International League pennant today.
  15. Danny Dreamer: " Great news. According to the latest official Farmer's Almanac farm rankings, we are now ranked in the top ten. Hooray " Larry Lykitis: " Looks like yet another last place finish. Another wasted year. Damn. "
  16. I would think anything Miami does would be to better their team. They are not in business to help the Red Sox. I don't see how they would be interested in Verdugo.
  17. Pitching the ninth inning is challenging and tough, as both Swanson and Whitlock found out. It is an entirely different atmosphere.
  18. I didn't see anything from the Irish that makes me think they can beat Ohio St. Hopefully, they have been saving something for the Buckeyes.
  19. I would not trade Duran. I think he can be a catalyst to this ballclub. He provides a spark to the offense . And I don't think he has reached his full potential as yet. Would definitely keep him, Casas and Rafaela.
  20. It's not just about spending, but who you spend it on. Bloom spent on starting pitching. But he spent it on the wrong guys.
  21. Bloom said himself that he expected to sign Mookie. Blaming Dombrowski for not " locking him up " sooner is a very lame excuse.
  22. Bloom may indeed be a poster , using an alias. That would explain a few things.
  23. Everybody likes a day off. I do think this is clearly driven by data . I have very little doubt about that.
  24. Amen to that.
  25. We might be over analyzing the reason Bloom was let go. He has been at the helm for four years. In year one, the team finished last , 16 games out in a ( thankfully ) short season. In year two, there was much improvement . The team finished tied for second, 8 games out and had a nice little run in the playoffs. That gave hope for contending in the future. But in year three , the team slid back into the cellar , 21 games out. Now in year four , the team is again in last place, 18 games out. In no way can the team be called a contender these last two years. It is a disappointment no matter how you look at it. Now, they could have stuck with Bloom in hopes that his longer term plans worked out , but they obviously decided that it had gone long enough and that was a gamble they did not want to take. And that's that.
