  1. Putting the ghost runner on third might be counterproductive. Makes it too likely that both teams score.
  2. The scoreboard tells the story. Schwarber is playing in the NLCS , possibly the World Series. And he is a big part of why the Phils are there. I don't think there is any doubt about that.
  3. The Phillies caught a break when Harper was able to adjust to first base so quickly , enabling Schwarber to D H. Another thing with Schwarber is that , in addition to the home runs and strikeouts, he draws a lot of walks. His OBP is pretty good.
  4. Okay. That's a good compromise.
  5. I have mixed feelings about the rules changes. Speeding up play is good. I despise the ghost runner . And stolen bases have become a little too easy. Three wild cards is too many.
  6. John Henry seems to grow more remote , more removed from operations and more reclusive every day.
  7. Could have tolerated Schwarber ( or J.D. ) in left or at first until J.D. left. Those home runs make for a lot . Schwarber is also known as one of the best teammates , clubhouse guys in the game.
  8. For two years.
  9. Yeah. Trading for Schwarber was one of Bloom's best moves. Then he let him get away.
  10. Saying the playoffs are a crapshoot doesn't necessarily mean that every team has an equal chance. The better teams still have an edge.
  11. Baseball is just a more random sport than most other sports. There is no major upset in any baseball game.
  12. It's hard to figure. Even with all of the known complaints, to me it still seems like an attractive job. It would not take all that much to make this team a contender. It is very obvious what is needed. The new guy just has to make a few good moves and he will be a hero.
  13. It's an important decision. They need to get it right this time.
  14. Closing is tough. Texas is still trying to find one. They have gone from Smith to Chapman to Leclerc. And still having trouble.
  15. His velocity is down considerably. He is either hurt or completely out of gas. Either way, he should not have been out there again last night. Thomson apparently has no faith in Walker and Lorenzen. Hard to understand his thinking.
  16. In the ALCS , the home team has still not won a game.. In the NLCS, the home team has not lost a game.
  17. I think Bloom handled those things okay. The problem was strictly that the team didn't win.
  18. In the ALCS , the home team has yet to win a game.
  19. Closers are always pitching in a big spotlight. Guys like Kimbrel, Jansen and Chapman have been doing it for a long time. They have been the best closers of their era , but they are all now nearing the end of the line. But what happens when you are very good is that people always remember the few times that you weren't. That is even true with Mariano Rivera , who was unquestionably the GOAT.
  20. We need three or four more newly created positions in the chain of command. All with their own cute acronyms.
  21. The problem is when the budget cuts result in lowering the quality of the product. The product in this case being the Boston Red Sox baseball team.
  22. Over Theo ? No. Over Bloom , maybe.
  23. We never get to see the books, but it is estimated that the Sox are the third most valuable franchise in MLB , worth well over 5 billion. I would think their profits are considerable. Budget cuts ?
  24. Budget cuts are for when things are tight. Why cut the budget when everything is working well ? By what reasoning did the Red Sox budget cuts pay off ? I surely don't see any.
  25. If you absolutely have to hire an egghead, Ivy League , pencil neck geek, at least hire one who knows the difference between a heater and a fan, a slider and a hoagie and a sweeper and a custodian. Breslow might be the guy.
