  1. Maybe Boras ? That's why he is the best in the business.
  2. As a client of the astute Scott Boras, Xander Bogaerts probably wanted to test free agency. It turns out that was a very wise choice. Signing an extension before that would have been a big mistake on his part.
  3. The Noles aren't exactly helping their case that they belong in the playoffs. Georgia may still be the best team in the country. Certainly better than Texas and Washington anyway.
  4. The bowl games are not what they used to be. But N.D. sure looked good yesterday. Does that bode well for next season ? We will see.
  5. For many players, reaching free agency is the Holy Grail. It is presumptuous to think that they could have / should have been extended to prevent them from reaching what they see as the proverbial pot of gold waiting for them. And the hatred for Scott Boras is laughable. He is very good at what he does. Maybe the best. He is working for his clients , not for the owners and certainly not for us.
  6. Giolito has been in MLB for eight years. His won/loss record is 61-62. Career ERA of 4.43. The first impression is that he is a typical ham and egger. However, he is a big, hard throwing right hander who can strike guys out. He has been very good at times. One All Star selection. He could well prove to be an asset.
  7. Best wishes in Atlanta to Chris Sale. He had a possible Hall of Fame career derailed by a series of injuries. Only Rafael Devers remains from that championship season.
  8. Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our TalkSox. Will Breslow sign a # 1 ? , a # 2 ? , a pair of 3's and a 4? Will John Henry make enough in bitcoin to afford it all ? And what happened to Max Bialystock? Is he okay? Will he return ? Will Moon and Old Red ever resolve their differences ? And what about notin ? Tune in tomorrow for the next episode of Days of our TalkSox.
  9. John Henry sleeps with his " luxury tax" every night.
  10. I thank God every day for sites like BTV. I mean, how else would I ever know that four jabronis in exchange for an All Star is probably not a fair trade ? Or that a ten dollar bill is better than forty nickels ?
  11. 1- Have patience. It really is a virtue. And a lack of patience often leads to big mistakes. 2- Do not trade Duran. He is poised to become a major player on this ballclub. 3- If the top starting pitchers cost more than you want to spend, keep on building the bullpen. That is often where games are won or lost these days.
  12. I have quite a few family members and friends who have moved down to Florida. Not a single one of them has any regrets about it or any desire to move back up north.
  13. Shortly after receiving his 2018 World Series ring, Henry was quoted as saying that he felt he was spending too much on the Red Sox team and he was looking to cut spending going forward. I don't know where to find that now, but I do remember it well. And it has certainly come to pass.
  14. High taxes , whether income, property, sales or whatnot, has an effect on the economy of the state involved. You will tend to see higher rents, higher cost of goods and services, etc. All of this is okay if you can afford it and don't mind paying. But for a lot of folks, it is a serious problem.
  15. Let's not cry a river over losing out on Yamamoto. The guy has been as over hyped as anyone in recent memory and without having yet accomplished anything in MLB. He may turn out to be a bit of an expensive disappointment or even a total flop. Go get a couple of good, established winning pitchers for less money. It is not too late to do that.
  16. I have never really been a big fan of John Henry. To me, he just does not come off as a likable guy. He surely has to get credit for breaking the curse and the four championships. But in the random, crapshoot world of post season baseball , you have to get the big breaks at the big moment. Other owners came close to winning it all, but the big plays always seemed to go against them. There is nothing an owner can do about it at that point. He gets credit for creating a nice atmosphere outside of Fenway, but he did that with some pretty shabby treatment of vendors who worked there for years. He has every right to limit his spending on the team, but then he will raise ticket and concession prices at the same time. A very bad look for the average fan. All in all, it certainly was great to finally beat the Yankees and the National League champs and break the long curse. But I just don't much care for John Henry. It wouldn't bother me a bit if he sold.
  17. The glass is still half full, but the milk is going sour.
  18. Reporter : " Yama, what about the idea of playing with your good buddy Yoshida in Boston "? Yamamoto: " Who "?
  19. In his praising ( butt kissing? ) of Aaron Boone, Verdugo took what was a pretty obvious shot at Alex Cora. Obviously there is bad blood there.
  20. According to the official baseball record book, the 2020 season counts, despite some wishing it didn't. The Dodgers, led by newly acquired Mookie Betts, won the World Series. And from watching our beloved Red Sox mail it in that season, did you really want to see it last longer?
  21. Fast forward to next July. Will we be seeing posts like this: " Maybe Yama just needs a little more time to adjust ". Ominous.
  22. The N.L. East is a tough division too. The Mets do have talent. One of the things that hurt them last year was the loss of their closer, Edwin Diaz. He is arguably the best in the business at this point and he will be back this year.
  23. It can be hard to tell what motivates a billionaire who has everything. Cohen seems to be having fun as an MLB owner, rather than just trying to turn a profit on it. I don't know if that is true, it just seems that way to me.
  24. Snell and Montgomery are both Boras' clients, so they are not going to be so easy to sign either.
  25. The Sox organization is definitely in the doghouse of many, many fans. Yamamoto is the big prize out there, but if they pay the price for him, there are going to be cries of why didn't they have the money for Mookie but now have it for a guy who has yet to win a game in MLB. I think that only by winning can they get out of this self- created doghouse. Not to mention that Yamamoto better be as good as advertised. The organization has put themselves in this situation through a series of bad decisions.
