  1. Yeah. And his track record in Boston has been excellent. At least up until now.
  2. Go light on the pen , go light on the pen - nant .
  3. People say they are concerned about Kimbrel's effectiveness going forward . Then you see some of the jabronis that are being suggested as replacements . It makes no sense . Are you not concerned about them ? Let's face it . It is all about the money . The question is : Is this really the area in which to economize? We will find out soon enough.
  4. The problem for the top tier free agents is that there are so many teams who are not even remotely interested in spending that kind of money. It enables the few who are to play the waiting game in the belief that the players will have to settle for less. And the fact is that the White Sox and Phillies are not exactly the most desired destinations. The players and their agents can complain all they want , but it is what it is . You can't always get what you want.
  5. Worse comes to worst , he could sell naming rights for Fenway to Prudential . " Welcome to The Rock , Formerly America's most beloved ballpark . "
  6. Hard to tell just what the policy is . It certainly would not be appropriate for Dombrowski to say that Henry gave him an order not to exceed the threshold. You can't do that.
  7. Interesting that many of the " small market " cities have larger populations than " big market " Boston . Maybe they should spend more and try to build a winning team and a bigger fan base .
  8. One thing the owners are benefiting from is the steady pool of talented , inexpensive young players from Latin America .
  9. Harmony is " The Cooler " . It is his job to tamper down all irrational exuberance and unrealistic expectations.
  10. Shawn Kelley ? Really?
  11. There is a " mystery team " in on Machado . That's what we need here ...... A " mystery poster ."
  12. I don't think it shows that at all . Perhaps the collapse was linked to the out of shape performance of the individuals involved .
  13. Oh. Okay . If AJ Pierzynski says so , I can't possibly disagree . It is fine to downplay the whole thing . But I still say ; the Sox blew the pennant and Tito blew his job.
  14. " If they won . " Therein lies the difference . The little word " if " means so much in life .
  15. The owners will try to work out a somewhat complicated deal which they can manipulate . It has worked before .
  16. The Sox blew the pennant . Tito blew his job . Proportion notwithstanding .
  17. Too bad that Tito didn't communicate to Lester and his pals that it is not okay to leave the dugout for your own little party in the clubhouse . Especially so during a pennant race .
  18. From what Dombrowski has been saying , Swihart will be given a full opportunity come spring training . It looks like if a catcher is traded , it will be Vazquez or Leon .
  19. I think that is just too many maybes , might' s , should be's and could be's to build one's hopes on . If would be great if they all panned out .
  20. . I think if every remaining reliever moves up one or two spots in the pecking order , we will most likely wind up weaker than before at each and every spot .
  21. It is possible that Eovaldi and Pearce are being somewhat overrated due to their post season heroics . At least when compared with their career numbers .However , watching Eovaldi pitch , his stuff is very impressive. There is good reason to think that he will be a stalwart in the rotation this season.
  22. We beat New York by eight games. Now , they certainly seem to have improved , even without Machado. Have they improved enough to make up the difference ? That is the burning question. To beat a dead horse one more time , I think we are playing a dangerous game by virtually ignoring the bullpen.
  23. Very true . But how about one more ? At least one .
  24. I think the analytics minded fans will probably disagree , but I think the 2013 Red Sox were a unique group. There was the marathon bombing , the Boston Strong movement and the city coming together behind the ball club. The were highly motivated, driven and determined to bring home a championship. Truly a team on a mission. Plus, they had talent . But not enough talent to sustain that success with making some key additions. Regrettably, that off season was unproductive, to say the least . And here we are today .
  25. After our last world championship in 2013 , the off season was extremely quiet and uneventful . It sure looked like a case of resting on laurels . The result speaks for itself . The team faded . Two straight cellar finishes. Eventually it , at least indirectly , cost Cherington his job . Then things changed for the better . Success ensued , with another world championship last season . So far this off season has been extremely quiet and uneventful . Sure looks like a case of resting on laurels . At least we don't have to worry about finishing in the cellar this time . But can we win the division for a fourth straight time ? That is the question .
