  1. Anyway , for Slasher and Moonslav , I am calling B.S. on you both . In your haste to be disagreeable and / or scapegoat Devers , you make no sense . Pitch sequence would still be designed to get the hitter out . Brasier always pitches out of the stretch . No difference there . And no defensive alignment would have prevented Alonso ' s hit or Delmonico 's home run . B.S. all the way .
  2. Some of you are speculating on what you think might have happened if not for the error . . I am dealing with what , in fact , actually did happen . Big difference . Imagination vs reality .
  3. If it wasn't for Devers' error , we would have lost by only one run . Much better result.
  4. Why is it more fun watching home grown players ? I don't understand that .
  5. With Castillo, it is all about not wanting to pay the tax . A shame that baseball has come to that .
  6. In general , the bullpen has exceeded even the most optimistic of expectations. But we will always find something to be upset about . In this case , it is Thornburg. Kill him .
  7. Chavis seems like a good kid . ( Unlike Steven Wright ) I would give him a pass for the one mistake .
  8. We should look to fill out the rotation with young , hard throwers . Our minor league hopefuls may be better than we think . Let's not pin our hopes on guys like Johnson , Velazquez and ( least of all ) problem child Wright .
  9. Under no circumstances should he be released . As for a trade ; that can't be answered without knowing who would be coming in return . I would not trade him simply to save money .
  10. Maybe Pedroia will need more time off . Maybe Nunez goes . But who would take Nunez' contract ? Same with Pearce . Pretty sure they want to keep Holt . Tough decision. Personally, I would like to keep Chavis , at least until he shows that he is not ready .
  11. Yeah . I think that is the most likely scenario. It's just that Chavis seems to be providing some much needed pop to the lineup .
  12. When Pedroia, Holt and Nunez come back , what moves are made ? Obviously, Lin goes down . Probably one of the pitchers goes . But what about Chavis ? Does he stay or go back down ? Will someone be dealt ? What say you ?
  13. Those Sunday double headers were something back in the day . I used to get there as soon as the gates opened , to watch batting and infield practice. Stayed outside after the games to watch the players leave , and look for autographs. Now , we complain that the games are too long . Times have surely changed .
  14. It wouldn't take too much to get right back in the pennant race . It could even happen quickly, as we have a very favorable schedule coming up . It is pretty apparent that a healthy J.D. Martinez is very much needed .
  15. Harm , Is " Harmony " a tribute to Harmon Killebrew ? My favorite memory of Killebrew is seeing him play in the old Yankee Stadium when I was a kid . A guy sitting nearby kept up a constant chant of " Har - Mon - Killy - Brew " - " Har - Mon - Killy - Brew " the whole game . Killebrew hit three high , majestic shots to left center , ( then very , very deep and known as Death Valley, ) all of them caught for outs . I thought to myself , " If this guy played for the Red Sox , he would break the home run record playing half his games in Fenway Park . " A long time ago , but still a very vivid memory .
  16. There are no secrets . The other teams are well aware that he will be a free agent and that Boras is the agent . That seriously lowers the return you might expect .
  17. Decent performance by Sale . But he will not be a dominant ace if he becomes a finesse pitcher . A little hard to get excited about today's performance because the Rays are very strikeout prone . Let's see how he does the next couple of starts .
  18. That is grasping for straws . No need to do that . I would like to see JBJ swing at the first pitch more if it looks good . Try to stay out of two strike counts . Go to the opposite field , especially at Fenway . The hits will come .
  19. You win as a team . You lose as a team . It's not the starting pitching . It's not the bullpen . It's not the offense . It's not the defense . It's not the manager . It's not any individual player . It's all of those things . On a winning team , the players pick each other up . That has not been happening since they got off the duck boats . This team has got to start playing better baseball . Start playing like a championship ballclub . They have shown they have the ability to do it . Need to do it soon before they dig too deep of a hole .
  20. Regrettably, it has become the norm for some fans to take out their frustrations by scapegoating players . It often goes beyond legitimate criticism and becomes an actual dislike for the player . If it's not JBJ , it's somebody else . Baseball is tough . Everybody has their ups and downs . Try to understand that . Bradley will come out of his slump . He always has .
  21. I would blame Farrell for some things . Having Wright pinch run is not one of them . One could reasonably expect any player to run the bases without getting hurt . Steven Wright should be DFA'd . It is pathetic if a championship team has to hope that this problem child , this prodigal son returns to help save the day . Let him go .
  22. The concern I have is that after one month of play , we have fallen five games behind the Yankees . And the Yankees have been decimated by injuries. If we fall ten or eleven behind them when they get healthy , it will be tough to overcome.
  23. I agree 100% . It was a classic case of being swayed by a relatively small sample size rather than looking at the overall career performance. Sometimes it works , but generally not a good policy .
  24. Max , Hitting ain't easy. I would venture to say that the majority of swinging strike outs come on pitches that are out of the zone . The really good hitters have better pitch recognition and plate discipline, but it is a split second thing . It's not fair to kill JBJ for striking out there .
  25. Nothing against Pearce specifically , but when you are reaching the limit in your budget , it may not be the smartest thing to spend the available money on a platoon at first base . The bullpen seemed to be a much more pressing need .
