  1. Not surprising. Called it yesterday.
  2. There is no disputing the fact that the Yankees are a very good team. But there should be no doubt that the Red Sox would be very dangerous in a playoff series. I am sure that is a concern to all Yankee fans dreaming of a championship.
  3. Maddon's job could be on the line .
  4. There are currently just five A.L. teams that are above .500 . A lot of really weak clubs out there. The A's are a train wreck. They really need to be re-located to Vegas or get new ownership or something.
  5. I think of the 2004 ALCS as the greatest comeback in baseball history. Brown may have gotten the apple a bit in Game 7 , but I think saying the Yanks choked detracts from the Sox accomplishment. I stay away from that.
  6. Can't be sure about that. But she surely could swim faster.
  7. Three wild cards is a travesty. Having more than that would be an abomination. " Keeping the fans interested " is a nice way of saying " Keep taking the sucker's money." Carnivals have used that system for many years. It works.
  8. Right now , the three highest payrolls in MLB are the the Dodgers , Mets and Yankees . Those three teams also have the three best records in MLB. If that were strictly random , it would be a monumental coincidence . The odds against it would be enormous.
  9. Good . That is why I come here. To make people happy.
  10. Not for nothing , the Moneyball genius ( who has never won a championship ) has put together a heckuva lineup out in Oakland this year.
  11. Yes. Oakland. Yesterday.
  12. Sox beat writer , Pete Abraham was robbed on the way to his hotel. Smashed the window of his car and stole all his stuff.
  13. With the expanded playoffs and the " crapshoot " nature of the post season , I just don't think a fire sale can be justified. I don't envision the Sox being so far out of contention that they would consider a selloff.
  14. I guess that is a good thing , but my own view is that having three wild cards makes an absolute travesty of the season. Hard to work up any enthusiasm over it.
  15. A great coach once said: " Winning isn't everything , it's the only thing." He wasn't one to care about a bunch of explanations and excuses.
  16. Big series out in L.A. The Mets at the Dodgers for four. Could be an NLCS preview . The Dodgers are as good as expected , but the Mets are coming on strong. Met fans believe something big is happening . Dodgers drew first blood last night 2-0.
  17. Speaking of Dombrowski ; He just axed Girardi in Philly.
  18. I remember Theo Epstein . Theo was a great G.M. for the Sox . Theo broke the curse. Chaim , you are no Theo Epstein.
  19. What gets me is when they will talk about a poster between themselves . Kind of like gossip . Seeking each others approval. Then they like to double or triple team you.
  20. That is a good point . JBJ should never be pitched away . Sometimes pitchers get a little careless.
  21. I wasn't really including you as part of the PBA. I have addressed those folks individually and will continue to do so. It's really no secret who they are .
  22. Old Red , try not to be gutless. Maybe you should stay off sports talk radio and spend more time on the geek web sites . Maybe you will learn the latest metrics/analytics .
  23. There are some folks who have a strong affinity for Bloom . They loved him from the moment he was hired. They do take any criticism of him personally . And they will get a bit sarcastic and even nasty about it. I really have not seen that with any other manager or G.M. What has Bloom done to deserve such fierce loyalty ?
  24. That is the P.B.A. at work. We also were one game away from not making the post season at all. We were tied for second , eight games out of first. We survived the ultimate crapshoot and had a brief run before falling short. There have been many times in my life when we were just one game away from the World Series or even a championship. They are not always fondly remembered. Last season was a success only when compared to the previous year's debacle.
  25. Careful Old Red , Any criticism of Bloom will get the P.B.A. to come after you. P.B.A. is the Protect Bloom Association . Or , Protect Bloom's Ass , for short. We have some charter members on here . And they are all " very astute" folks.
