  1. They are so loaded with depth. Depth in the starting rotation and depth with their position players too. This is a team that can't find at bats for Swilhart, and they will eventually get Pedroia and Bogaerts back from injury. Lin is a valuable asset--good glove and he has a little Brett Gardner to his offensive game with his patience at the plate. Moreland provides awesome depth.
  2. Does anyone support the Red Sox going to a 6 man rotation, not necessarily for the entire regular season, but maybe for a 2-3 month stretch? Sale Price Porcello Rodriguez Pomeranz Options for 6th starter: Wright Johnson Velaquez I want to keep Price healthy. I want to keep Sale strong for October. The Red Sox have so much SP depth, why not use it to their advantage?
  3. This guy is such an underestimated prospect. MLB had him ranked as the Red Sox's 15th best prospect going into the season. He could turn into a valuable trade chip. Then again, I'm not sure if I want the Red Sox to move him. Beeks is a little older than Chase Adams but is he really much worse than Chase Adams, a guy who made the top 100 list?
  4. LINK: http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2018/04/boston_red_sox_convert_trey_ba.html Oh baby, Trey Ball could be the next Andrew Miller! That would be sweet!
  5. Brett Netzer, who is getting off to a good start in Salem, is worth watching too. Obviously, when he is promoted, his performance in Double A will go a long way toward defining his upside and potential.
  6. He had a bases loaded triple last night, really smacked the ball: Shohei Ohtani hits a bases-loaded triple WWW.MLB.COM KANSAS CITY -- Two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani collected another first on Thursday night, driving in three runs with a bases-loaded triple to cap a five-run seventh inning for the Angels in their 7-1 win over the Royals in the series opener at Kauffman Stadium. The Halos ran their winning streak I guess he changed his hitting style, he now uses a toe tap rather than a leg kick. It took him a little time to adjust, which would explain his spring training numbers; it is amazing how quickly he has been able to process and incorporate a new style, suggesting this guy is incredibly talented. Also, he is a big guy too. Kind of tall and broad. He has the necessary physical characteristics.
  7. My Lineup for tomorrow against stud C.Tillman: Lineup Betts RF Benintendi LF Martinez DH Moreland 1b Nunez 2b Swilhart 3b Bradley CF Vazquez C Lin SS Assuming Hanley can't play, Devers gets a day off, Lin > Brock Holt.
  8. I would like to see Lin and Swilhart in the Red Sox lineup tomorrow.
  9. Did Blake Swilhart play any 3b in spring training?
  10. Wonder if they put Hanley on the 10 day DL? I guess not--no fracture--but he probably won't be able to play for a few days at least.
  11. Devers needs a day off. Slumping.
  12. I should have mentioned Hernandez--he is interesting and could take a step forward this year. I like Diaz, but, yeah, he's 17.
  13. Vazquez, Devers, and Nunez could use a day off. Get Lin and Leon in there tomorrow. I guess they will have to play Devers tomorrow but move him down the lineup.
  14. Andujar is a prospect that I have liked. Sure, it's a small sample size, but I'm amazed at how lost he looks at the plate thus far. He seems to be struggling against the off-speed stuff. Wonder how long until the Yankees promote Torres, who is by far the best prospect in the Yankees system. There is a big drop-off after Torres.
  15. It is hard to get excited about the Red Sox ML system this year--it has to be one of the weakest in MLB. Now that Chavis was juicing, there are no hitters at the higher levels to get excited about. Maybe Ockimey and Dalbec will make strides this year, but they are pretty far from being blue chippers. Brannen just hasn't hit thus far. The pitching is the area of strength with Groome, Mata, Houck, Scherff, and Raudes. We have to hope a couple of the pitchers develop into big time prospects this year. I almost forgot about CJ Chatham. It would be nice to see him stay healthy this year. The good news: the Red Sox have so much starting pitching depth, they probably won't need to trade for a SP this year. If they need a hitter, they can probably find a salary dump guy.
  16. I wish the 2014-2015 Brock Holt would show up, but that Brock Holt has been missing in action for over two seasons now.
  17. If Otani continues to play at a high level, how can this guy not win the MVP? You would have to add together his WAR as a SP with his WAR as an offensive player and that should surpass the WAR of every other player.
  18. I've said all along that Cashman made two big mistakes. The first, he traded away A.Miller for some so-so prospects (I'm not high on Frazier or Sheffield). Miller would have helped the Yankees last season and now this season. The second: replacing a quality manager in Joe Girardi with a guy who never even served as a bench coach. The Guardians are pretty good at evaluating talent. They sold high on Frazier in particular. Sheffield has talent, but his ceiling is still that of a middle of the rotation starter and a lot of things have to go right to achieve that. More likely, Sheffield develops into a bottom of the rotation starter or bullpen piece. I would rather have a few seasons of dominance from Andrew Miller.
  19. 2019 staff: Sale Price Porcello E-Rod Wright/Johnson w/J.Beeks as the 7th starter. Don't see the need for Pomeranz in 2019. I guess you think Price will opt out?
  20. We don't know this at all. Maybe John Henry has already given the go-ahead to let the option vest (on the condition that Hanley hits) and that he is prepared to see the option as a sunk cost for 2019. John Henry is a rich guy--he knows it is a bad contract, but maybe he is willing to absorb it for one more season to avoid playing games with Hanley. In addition, maybe the Red Sox don't intend to resign Pomeranz or Kimbrel and instead plan to make a massive bid on Harper or Machado. In short, we ultimately don't know the Red Sox's spending priorities over the next few seasons; John Henry and Dombrowski aren't going to make that information public. I'm not sure if resigning Pomeranz would be a wise long term decision anyway; that money is probably better spent somewhere else.
  21. It is obviously early, too early to know anything for certain, but all I see right now from Hanley is a guy with an inflated BABIP. No walks, no power. I would keep playing him, in order to get a better read on things, but mixing in a day off here and there (for Moreland) is a good idea too.
  22. The Red Sox system has been hit pretty hard over the last two seasons, beginning with the unfortunate and sad passing of D.Flores. And now we learn that Chavis was juicing. Thus, the Red Sox system, which was trending in the wrong direction anyway, lost two of their better prospects without getting anything in return.
  23. I agree with this; and Chavis fits this profile perfectly. His minor league career was going nowhere--he had nothing to lose.
  24. Gutless performance by Gary Sanchez to leave the game like that. Thurmon Munson never would have left that game. Also, why wasn't A.Warren used? Did I miss something, is he hurt? Was this another troubling decision by Boone who appears to be in over his head?
  25. It is not hard to see what happened. His career was going nowhere, he started juicing, and the HR production spiked. He finally looked like a legitimate prospect. But now we know that such things were a mirage, a result of PEDs. He has lost all of his trade value and is basically back to being a non-factor again. He is an irrelevant prospect until he returns and proves he can hit without juicing. Problem is, Chavis probably can't hit without juicing--HR power was his only tool.
