  1. Clint Frazier can hit Triple-A pitching, he just isn't overly productive against major league pitching. Take away Frazier's 30 at bats against Baltimore this year (a Triple-A pitching staff) and his 28 at bats against Kansas City's Triple-A pitching staff and you begin to see why he isn't exactly an offensive juggernaut. It goes without saying that the guy is a complete train wreck defensively. Cashman will try to move him for an SP--it'll be interesting to see if he can find a sucker for a guy who just isn't a very good baseball player. There is a peculiar dynamic going on in the AL this year, with several teams going through a rebuild with rosters consisting of Triple-A players rather than legitimate major league players. This has probably also been a factor in the top-heavy records of some of the AL teams.
  2. As I predicted, the Red Sox system took a huge step forward this year. Houck and Mata are in the process of developing into top SP prospects. And Groome will hopefully continue that trend when he returns over the summer. But there have been a few disappointments, including Feltman and D.Hernandez. Maybe if the Red Sox move Hernandez to the minor league bullpen we would see an improvement in his location? The kid has a million dollar arm but he will never make it as a starter unless he improves his location.
  3. The Yankees are collapsing right in front of Cashman's eyes and so he makes this deal out of desperation..... The fact that no one wanted Encarnacion, allowing the Yankees to acquire him rather cheaply, should send a message to JD Martinez regarding his opt out decision. These DH types who can't play defense aren't highly valued anymore. Martinez would be a fool to opt out.
  4. I'm hoping Houck has a long career as a starting pitcher, but bullpen is definitely his fall back.
  5. So far so good for Chatman (future starter at 2b?), Duran (future starting CF?) and Shawaryn (replaces Porcello in the rotation?). Not only these three--the Red Sox minor league system as a whole is taking a huge step forward with pitchers like Hernandez, Houck, and Mata.
  6. You have to hope Porcello will go through one of his hot streaks before the trade deadline. In turn, the Red Sox can shop him at the trade deadline and get some team with championship aspirations to overpay.
  7. If he can get hot between now and the trade deadline, the Red Sox should consider trading him at the deadline if the Red Sox can get a nice return. Bradley Jr. isn't going to be in Boston beyond the 2020 season anyway. If you trade Bradley jr. at the trade deadline (assuming the Red Sox are sellers at that point) the Red Sox will need a CF for 2020. They need a catcher for 2020 as well. I doubt Duran will be ready in 2020. On the other hand, Duran should get promoted to AA soon and if he keeps hitting there, he won't be far from the big leagues.
  8. A lot of injuries. At some point, this can't be a coincidence (or bad luck) anymore. . . .
  9. Marcus Wilson and J.Durran are now competing for the starting CF job in 2021.
  10. One word comes to mind: DYNASTY.
  11. I overlooked D.Hernandez; I agree: he will also compete for Porcello's spot. However, Hernandez may need another year of development to improve his location. He definitely has location issues. If Porcello has a strong 2019 season and accepts the QO, the Red Sox could trade the contract pretty easily. The risk is minimal.
  12. I don't see him fitting into the budget. He will be gone after this season. If he doesn't have a good season, he won't receive a qualifying offer, but I suspect he will pitch well enough to receive and reject a qualifying offer. Mike Shawaryn replaces Porcello in the rotation next season. Shawaryn has looked great so far this year in AAA. I suppose Brian Johnson will get a chance to replace Porcello as well. Houck will probably need another year of development. If this turns into a down season for the Red Sox, Porcello would be an excellent trade chip at the deadline, assuming he puts up typical Porcello numbers.
  13. Good point.
  14. You start to feel older when (1) a player you watched play is hired as a manager; (2) a player you watched play ends up in the booth announcing games.
  15. The Red Sox are a traveling s*** show this year. Amazing how bad they look, but I still luv them for what they brought me last season.
  16. I never would have made this move. 1. If the Red Sox are going to have a down year, which is looking more and more likely, it would have made sense to keep and play a player like Swihart. Vazquez and Leon are garbage and they will never be anything but garbage. At least Swihart has potential. 2. Sandy Leon is not a major league caliber hitter; he isn't a major league caliber player. Bottom line: the Red Sox will be in the market for a starting C in 2020.
  17. Cashman was an idiot for bringing back JJ Happ. The biggest busts behind the Yankees mediocre start: Paxton and Happ https://nypost.com/2019/04/12/pitching-staff-and-key-subs-havent-picked-up-the-slack-for-yankees/ Meanwhile, Corbin has thrown 19 innings this year, has a 2.84 ERA with 24 Ks and 4 BB.
  18. Mata= breakout candidate. Another guy to watch is J.Duran, perhaps he is the guy who replaces Jackie Bradley Jr. One thing for certain: the Red Sox aren't going to resign Jackie Bradley Jr, the value just isn't there.
  19. Michael Kay said on ESPN radio that if George Steinbrenner was still alive, the Yankees would have signed either Machado or Harper. I agree with him.
  20. The Yankees had a terrible off-season--they made one mistake after another. They should have signed Corbin, kept Sheffield, and avoided James Paxton. In addition, I don't know how they pass on a future HOF in Machado. They should have signed Machado, a two way player, and traded the hyped M.Andujar while his trade value was high and inflated. Cashman went through a stretch where he made some excellent moves, acquiring DiDi, A.Hicks, Torres. But more recently Cashman has been trending in the other direction and it all started going wrong for him when he traded for numb nuts Geancarlo Stanton.
  21. This is unconstitutional, not open for serious discussion. If this is true, JW is really, really sick and certainly deserving of a long prison sentence. I'm assuming JW has money, meaning he could have bought a street whore to get his rocks off whenever he wanted. The fact that he allegedly had sex with a 4 year old speaks to the depths of his depravity and sickness. What should society do with people like this? I agree--you must lock them up and don't ever let them out. There is no other feasible solution or alternative.
  22. The Red Sox have the best team in baseball and will win another W.S. this year. This is a minor bump in the road. Dombrowski and Cora are too great for this--expect the Red Sox to take off and never land until they win the W.S. again in October. Based on what I see from the Yankees, I'm thinking the Rays and A's win the wild card this year. Brian Cashman had a hilariously bad offseason and it is carrying over into the Yankees regular season.
  23. Henry decided that he wasn't going to let Cherrington's mistakes hold back this team. The Red Sox had 40 million in dead money last year with Sandoval and Ramirez's contracts, not to mention the money that the Red Sox were paying Castillo (didn't count toward luxury tax, but the money was still coming out of Henry's pocket).
  24. The trickiest guy to replace is Bradley Jr. The Red Sox don't have any future starting CFs in the upper levels of their system. I don't know where Bradley's replacement comes from but I suspect they will trade for a glove first CF, a younger player, and just live with his inconsistent bat. To be sure, replacing a guy like Bradley Jr., a 8th or 9th hitter with a good glove, is easier than replacing a stud like Mookie Betts.
  25. Two years with Barnes as the closer and then Feltman takes over.
