  1. I don't see any great base stealers these days.
  2. Benni had to at least move Mookie over.
  3. When E-Rod is on he's dominant, problem with him is start to start inconsistent. He needs to string 5 good games in a row. He was doing this end of last year.
  4. There should be no Stat that has Wins in it. Every Game Different, Situations Different. Last night game will have no bearing on todays game.
  5. Still don't know if WAR gives you credit for Productive Outs, that help win games. Or a Players Hustle, on plays, that help win games too.
  6. Christ, its a No brainer then.
  7. What do you think about Catchers in the Class of 1977? Fisk Munson Simmons Carter Boone Stearns Yeager Porter Parrish Sundberg Was Bench still catching? Had to look it up caught 135 games that year. Sanguillen
  8. Thanks, good stuff. I'll work our Prospects in too, and compare.
  9. Pomeranz reminds me of Tim Lollar. Good stuff cant find the strike zone consistently for a Southpaw.
  10. Vazquez was signed as a Catcher when he was 17 years old. Swihart was converted to Catcher much later. He really didn't start competitive Catching until he was 20. Actually Vazquez was Drafted sorry. Don't matter at this point, Sox should do all they could to move on from Swihart. See if he could resurrect his career somewhere else. Good chance he could too, the way the Catching state is in the Majors, a .240 hitter is a Hall of Famer.
  11. I figure I'll compare at mid season, the 2 team Farms where they stand for Team ERA's, from Low A to Triple AAA, before promotions. Shut-outs, Innings pitched to hits allowed.
  12. What young dynamic Pitcher, (especially Starter), was developed by Cherrington? Even Relievers? By this time we should have at least 1 Roger Clemens, I'll even take Bruce Hurst. Bogaerts was signed while Theo was here, pretty sure JBJ was too. Mookie could have been too. Mookie was Drafted in June 2011, Theo was still here right? I only see Benni, and maybe Devers as Cherrington kids. Forgot Trey Ball. Edit: Theo resigned in Oct. 2011
  13. Its OK to have a Defensive Strength up the middle, CF and Catcher, and give up some Offense. Teams were using this formula for years. The good wining teams. But, the most important factor for this to work is you better have dynamic Pitching. That's where Weaver phrase comes in....Pitching, Defense, and 3 Run HR. It starts with Pitching. Defense compliments this, 3 Run HR means your within 2 Runs of taking the lead, in a low scoring game because of Pitching. One mistake, by Opponent.
  14. Blair played the shallowest CF ever. Took tons of runs away, you couldn't score from 2nd on singles, and almost always got to the ball over his head. Didn't rely on arm, got unreal jumps on the ball. Even when he was old, with the Yanks, saw him in Old Yankee Stadium, it was amazing, he was flagging them down in that Canyon. Ball hit to Center 400 ft. and runner at 3rd with less than 2 out your going to score 99% of the time unless, you fall down going home. You want to stop the runs from 2nd, on hits.
  15. Keeping an eye on this. Last year read an article that Yanks A+ Team had the best arms in the entire A+ teams throughout Country. (Wish I saved it) Well, looking at the Eastern League Pitching for the Teams, looks like Trenton, is dominating so far here. Many of these A+ kids got promoted, to Trenton. Last year Trenton's team was the best in the Eastern League in team Pitching. Again dominated. Those kids got moved to the tougher Triple AAA League. As a friendly adversary, this is really concerning me. Sox have squat, in the Minors to help out in the Majors within 3 years. I laugh when I hear this current Sox Team has a 3-5 year window now. It starts with Pitching. A bad Draft this year for the Sox, and start getting a lot talent flowing into Pitching, we are going to be in trouble within 3 years, maybe less. There's always money I guess.
  16. Who was injured at Catcher that year by the way, in 2015? Hannigan? Vazquez was the back-up and got hurt, and then they used Swihart. Got it. Vazquez was unproven just as much as Swihart, at that time.
  17. Also put up decent numbers for someone who was rushed into a job. Weren't we last place that year, only good sign for a crummy team.
  18. 2011 he was Drafted, by 2014 he was in Triple AAA putting up good numbers Offensively and Defensively. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=swihar000bla The plan was him to be #1 and Vaz the Back-up. The injury really set him back. With the bat, and behind the plate. Read his Defensive Numbers all the way up to 2014, they are very good, and equals or is better than Vaz in throwing out Runners, in the Minors. In 2014 he had 0 Passed Balls. Sox after Theo left, screwed this up, and they will screw this up if he gets Traded. I would want out this organization too, if I was him.
  19. Time for a little winning streak starting tonight, Planets are all lined up. Sale tonight and then the O's.
  20. Not worried about this series as much as the next one with the O's. You don't want to get swept by the A's with Sale going. But, against the O's if they don't take at least 3 out of 4, then you have something you have to be a little concerned about, even this early in the season. O's have the 2nd worst record in Baseball at the moment.
  21. Ryan pitched 60 innings in his career as a Reliever had 2 Wild Pitches. Don't know about Passes Balls. Niekro pitched 254 innings as a reliever had 20 Wild Pitches, again don't know about Passed Balls. Here's a stat that looks cool Niekro pitched 5404 innings, gave up 5044 hits. Ryan pitched 5386 innings gave up 3923 hits. I'll take the Wild Pitches.
  22. Never liked Knucklers out of BP. None dating back to Wilhelm. You can easily lose a game without a hit. Even with a clean inning its stressful, takes a while to get a good feel for that pitch, and you really want to bring in a knuckler, in High leverage situation, guy on third with 2 Outs, or even second, with less then 2 Outs. One wild Pitch could be game.
  23. You can gamble tonight against a tough Lefty. If he gets some good swings tonight, even Outs, depending how they are hit. To jump Start him. Or Defensive Replacement. I would gamble. Late in the season...no. If he is struggling at the plate.
  24. Interesting if he plays tonight. Manaea vs. RHB .257 ---.202 vs. LHB career. Also Oakland helps Manaea big time, 3.26 ERA at home 4.39 on the Road-Career. Always stay away from Oakland Pitchers in a Trade. It's a Mirage. Catfish Hunter in Oakland 80-39 2.39 ERA In Yankee Stadium 24-28 3.81 ERA Career for both. 6-8 with a 4.80 era in his career at Fenway.
