Spoken like Scholar!
Funny that the Henry Group threw millions of dollars around for players who were not homegrown ( sandoval renteria to name a few) but yet, they will not spend on homegrown talent (see Lester) or have the patience to wait on drafted players such as Chavis and AB
I understand you don't extend a 28 year old player to a 10 year deal, "I get it", its bad business. Far as XB goes there is no reason not to start at 4 -120 ? The player is in his Prime and still should be at age 34, if the Player wants more than that, let him walk!
This is why Henry should have put the emphasis on revamping the MINOR LEAGUE DEVELOPMENTAL SYSTEM before he made any GM hire the last go around. As an Organization going forward with the absurd contracts YOU MUST identify the Prospects in your system you deem to have Elite talent. Buy out the ARB years and get these Players signed in thier Prime before the big-shot Agents make it unwilling to do so.
The biggest problem Henry has right now is Bloom! The Minor League Developmental System is a Train wreck being run by BCrockett. They have not developed any Pitchers to speak of and the hitters they do develop continue to circle the bowl in the case of Casas and Duran without a call-up due partly to Bloom signing every swinging d!ck off the waiver wire.
Bloom's First order of Business should have been the above. New Minor League Leadership New Minor League Scouts New Minor League voices! This is Exactly what Epstein did in 2003!
Now you have Bloom making Questionable trades and signings in part because of the System he did not re-organize.
Bloom has failed in all aspects but in retrospect its Henry who just might be the Failure here? Now the talk of trading elite players for what, another low A prospect, another 24 year old Hitter or Pitcher assigned to High A ? If they signed Jansen to the 20 they handed out to a Coors field hitter your at the moment a Playoff Team!
Thanks John for the mess you made yet again!
