  1. Downs is another asset we received and didn't do a lot early on but has really picked it up of late. Hope we don't consider trading him.
  2. The guys have to be tired after a full home schedule followed by a trip to the West coast and a game the same day. Like to see Arroyo get back. I thought he would play a couple or games with the Worcester team before returning. Maybe he shows up against the Angels.
  3. I hope Bloom goes after significant additions. Ist base, outfield and BP help are targets. With Sale coming available and Duran also, maybe the BP additions are the most important.
  4. I get the feeling that opposing teams have been sitting on Barnes fastball of late.
  5. Right now the Jays have the club that could make a run with their terrific lineup. Their pitching has held them back but neither the Yankees or the Rays appear to be a serious threat.
  6. We are now approaching the trade deadline (jul 30th) and I wonder what if any action the Sox may take. Some of the factors involve may include: 1. Exceeding CBT limits 2. Clearing space on the 40 man roster 3. Who are the Sox willing to lose? 4. Is the Sox management thinking they can be a real contender this year? 1. If the Sox are unwilling to exceed the CBT, going after starting pitching or people like Starling Marte are probably off the table. 2. Clearing space on the 40 man to add trade assets or players like Duran means trading or dropping others. Some of the potential names in my view are Santana, Rosario, Cordero, Potts, Chavis, Arauz, Workman and Andriese. 3. I listed some assets from the 40 man the Sox might be willing to lose in trades. Are there others not on the 40 man? 4.. It's hard to read if the Sox management believes they have a shot to go all the way this year. So far, management actions have been subdued. The trade deadline should provide a clearer indication.
  7. This is certainly a new development as it has looked like the Sox were holding off on Duran because of the Olympics. It would be reasonable for the Sox to add another left handed bat to their roster, and his blazing speed would also be a plus. I doubt if they intend to add him prior to the all star break as 6 of the remaining games are on the West coast.
  8. He actually went 2 for 6 with 3 strikeouts over 2 games. I'm not as certain that he has improved that much.
  9. The way Cora talks makes me believe he thinks of Sale as his ACE in the hole. He will be brought in during August to give the Sox a lift when needed.
  10. Sale is older and should be wiser after the injury and TJ. I'm expecting his experience will lead him to be more of a pitcher so he doesn't try to overthrow. No doubt Cora will be careful with him as he is probably the most significant addition any team can get for the second half of the season.
  11. The Sox have three tough West coast games beginning tomorrow night. Oakland is no pushover. They are followed by three with the Angels who have stars but my not be as formidable as Oakland. This will be a tough trip but i hope for at least a split.
  12. I believe the Sox have decided to let Duran play for the Olympics team. If that is true, he won't become available until the 2nd week of August at the earliest.
  13. these guys show no emotion. More like a bunch of funeral directors.
  14. Playing in the American League East makes it difficult to rack up a lot of wins, but it also makes it difficult for teams behind us to gain ground. It should be interesting.
  15. Possibly Arroyo will bat in that spot when he returns.
  16. No joy in Yankee town.
  17. Nearly half the season has passed. You will still be talking small sample size in August. We are 1/2 game out and have a chance.
  18. I can't watch it. Two walks in a row to put up Stanton.
  19. We are 1/2 game out of 1st and need Barnes. We need t find other ways to improve.
  20. The deals look very good in terms of the team and also the quality of our minor league prospects. We shouldn't expect that projects from other teams would all be doing well. A significant number are a and that is to Bloom's credit and remember we are doing it while staying below the CBT. What I do question is the tenacity and stubbornness of staying with players who are not getting the job done instead of trying alternatives. Even then, I admit to not being privy to the information available to management. I just hope they don't drag their feet and lose a number of games that we might have won by being more proactive.
  21. Don't know where to put draft related comments but I see the Sox have $11,359,600 to spend in bonus money. By rounds (1st 5) these is what the slot expectations are: 1st round $6,664,000 2nd. round $1,856,700 3rd round $831,100 4th round $554,300 5th round $410,100 The Sox may take Leiter but the top catcher also fits the Sox needs
  22. The Sox are playing sloppy baseball with defense, base running and some poor pitching. The Yankees suffer from some of the same maladies. The Rays play a cleaner brand of ball and have used that to good effect. We can do something about our weak hitters but the defensive lapses, baserunning errors and poor pitching will be more difficult to fix. Cora expects more so maybe he can have an impact on those areas.
  23. I have been recommending replacing our weakest field players and pitchers with promising prospects for some time now. Duran for Santana has looked like a no brainer. Dalbec still has potential so I have advocated a left handed hitter to platoon with him although Marwin is not an upgrade. they were saying Dalbec was choking up and that got him out of the slump. I thought instead that he stopped taking pitches down the middle and got more aggressive. Whatever, he is back in a slump. I would move Andriese as soon as Houck or Ort is available. Maybe our promising prospects don't give us a lift but possibly they help us win another game or two a month and that is worth a try.
