  1. A lot of damage was done by three players tonight. Kike has really come on strongly, Jarren had his best night and Rafi is just an rbi machine. I also though Verdugo is showing signs of getting his offense going. Arroyo is another wild card if he can come back from the hamstring after 10 days. Where will he play though?
  2. Yes, Dalbec would have more value to the Sox than Chavis, but with Casas a year away Bloom needs to consider the long term.
  3. Is he even sane?
  4. Houck has great stuff and could be a meaningful starter going forward. He does need to get his stuff over more to last more than 5 innings and the announcers mentioned he throws his warmup pitches every inning at full velocity, which further shortens his stay. Like a lot of less experienced pitchers, he has to pitch instead of just throw. He could be a #2 starter on the team if he makes that jump.
  5. The Rays got him in a 4 team deal. We need to be active as well.
  6. Duran has played in two games and was subbed into another late. One of the games was against the Yankees best and his next appearance will be against him as well. Cordero, Chavis and Dalbec have been in many more games. I think Bloom is out there beating the bushes to find a quality first baseman (not necessarily to platoon with Dalbec) and a quality relief pitcher. Those talks may involve trading either Dalbec/Chavis and prospects that don't figure in the Sox long term plans. Bloom is circumspect about plans but I believe he will make trades if he can find ones that fit the Sox long term plans. The real question is whether he has the go ahead to spend over the CBT limit
  7. There is some truth in the idea that sellers want to give enough time to see all the offers that will be put on the table. There is also a line of thinking that says buying teams investigating options may consider several and be willing to take one of those. Once taken, the offers to the other teams must be withdrawn. Otherwise there is a risk to the seller of losing an opportunity if they drag it out too long.
  8. We need at least to play even with the Yankees to keep them 7 games back. I think Houck has a good chance tonight but it would have been nice to have Arroyo present for this series.
  9. He is old for basically a rookie and his defense leaves something to be desired. Couple that with his lack of production on a team that has a chance to make a splash in the playoffs and it makes me want to look for an alternative. I think we can pick up a first baseman to serve for a year or two while Casas progresses. There are a number of options available who could give us more. I no longer see Dalbec in our long term plans.
  10. The experiment with Arroyo at 1st base was a costly one.
  11. We are going into a very meaningful 7 game stretch and are approaching the trade deadline. It would be important to complete a trade now to shore up the roster. With Santana down and Arroyo out for at least 7 more days, we are reliant on Chavis, Dalbec and possibly Cordero and a rookie Duran. We also have Verdugo struggling and Bogie working with a sore wrist. Having a solid first baseman would help right now. Also another relief arm now would take some of the pressure off our top arms, who will no doubt be used during this next stretch. Bloom, t he time to act is now.
  12. The Rays won and the Yankees are ahead, primarily due to their pitching. We needed this one to keep our margin.
  13. Isn't this supposed to be about trades?
  14. Who will the Sox call up with Santana with a groin pull tonight?
  15. Santana has a groin pull and may go back on the IL leaving the Sox with 1 bench player 9other than a spare catcher). Who do they call up?
  16. Breathing rom and much needed. Two key abs
  17. God is usually right but tonight maybe he made some questionable decisions.
  18. Santana, Dalbec and Chavis against right hand pitching. Is Verdugo available? I know Duran is.
  19. How often when you walk a guy it comes back to haunt you?
  20. The Rays won in the 9th so we need to win this one tonight to keep them behind.
  21. I still believe Cron might be a good pickup at fairly low cost. 1B: C.J. Cron, Rockies The Rockies signed Cron to a one-year, $1 million contract this offseason, a deal that has paid off for Colorado. Cron has 10 home runs and an .804 OPS through 64 games, providing solid production at a bargain price. For a team in need of help at first base, Cron could be one of the best -- and most affordable -- options. Trevor Story is the Rockies big trade chip but we don't need him.
  22. The idea of lightening up has been talked about since the Sox have too many prospects to keep over the winter. Throwing in an outfield prospect like Wilson with a ML guy who isn't in our long term plan makes some sense. Chavis, Dalbec and perhaps Cordero all are possibilities and there are many other prospects we could trade without much impact. What we could use is an upgrade in the RP area to replace Andriese, Workman or possibly Rios. If we can get one with an additional year of control it would be better. It is the kind of move that would help the team competitiveness without going over the CBT. Of course we could use help at 1b. Cron might make sense as Casa is still a full year away.
  23. Arroyo was playing well. It's a shame about the hamstring. A severe hammy takes 6 weeks to heal. Let's hope it isn't that bad.
  24. Santana had a really nice game. HR and double, but also a sharply hit ball and a 9 pitch at bat where he finally struck out.
  25. Good by Cora to get sawamura into the the game. Two pitches is all it took
