  1. Moon, I would love to see 'non-performing' contracts by year.... 2024 $41,250 (Giolito, Sale and Hendriks) This is the area where we have to get better.....I'm convinced going young is better...players getting hurt will reinforce Henry's thinking about not signing 30+ pitchers. I think we're doing the right thing by pitching Bello, Kutter, Houk and Whitlock. Let's see what we have.... JMO
  2. I am a big fan of Bernardino. Disappointed he is not part of 26.
  3. So Bello threw his 4 seamer 540 times last year and was hit hard....ops above 1.000. His first outing? 0 4 seamers. " Doc, it hurts when I raise my arm." " Don't raise your arm."
  4. Jansen out and Devers missing 2 out of 3. Maybe the starting pitchers will surprise us all.
  5. You simply stick Rafaela out on center. Ref is a utility piece. I would be pissed if Rafaela is sent down to make a room for Ref. Rafaela is our future center fielder. If we can't srick with him this year when we're expected to come in dead last then when when will he get an opportunity?
  6. I will wait until November 2024 to weigh in when much of contracts will disappear. My issue is we continue to throw away money. We are stuck with Giolito's contract for one more year.
  7. I don't believe a team has ever redone the contract for current year. Casas extension has to be done prior to season opener.
  8. +800 OPS Abreu Duran Rafaela Grissom Is that acceptable?
  9. Obviously I am not optimistic about this year. I doubt we make the playoffs. I am anxious to watch all the youngsters perform, especially our starting rotation. It is what management does this winter will say everything about John Henry and the future. He will be standing on the cliff.
  10. Not sure how my Youtube viewing came across podcast of Padres talking heads but they are all unhappy with Xander's contract. Anyone here really think that would have been a good contract for the Sox?
  11. ]Overthemonster[/color] Looking ahead to 2025, like Red Sox executives seem to already be doing, the future very well could be bright. If each of the top three prospects continue to progress as Sam Kennedy thinks they will, a roster of 13 hitters could potentially feature: Catcher: Kyle Teel, Connor Wong Infield: Triston Casas, Vaughn Grissom, Marcelo Mayer, Trevor Story, Rafael Devers, TBD Free Agent Outfield: Jarren Duran, Masataka Yoshida, Roman Anthony, Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu Setting aside the fact that eight of those twelve hitters listed are left-handed, that group can compete. But, what if one of the Big Three stalls? Now that's what I'm talking about.....team controlled players.
  12. I always thought Abreu was a lock. Good bat to ball skills, unlike Story, doesn't chase every pitch especially the ones out of strike zone and has strong arm supposedly. That's was a good trade with Houston. 3 months of Vaz for two major leaguers.
  13. I'm just anxious to see who belongs and who doesn't. As starters (Bello is in, good or bad) Kutter Houck Whitlock Position players (Devers/Casas/Yoshida/Story are 'in', Wong is in at least as a backup) Grissom Duran, on the cusp, I think he's a done deal Rafaela Abreau That will keep me interested... But it's another question when it comes to 'stars', right now I only see Devers.
  14. So basically we will pay $38M to Giolito for at best one year of service. Nice signing by the Sox. Giolito had all the upside on that deal. Pitch good, opt out. Get hurt. $19M to rehab. This is why John Henry is pissed off all the time. That's on the heels of of Chris Sale's extension fiasco. Take away all the waste and we have enough money to sign even Betts.
  15. I'm thinking the Sox would lose about $80M at the gate if attendance drops by 10, 000 fans. My guess is that won't happen. Too many fans will always love the 'ballpark experience". Not sure about the local tv revenues. Anyone here have any idea how my mlb subsription of about $160 is split? What if I pick the $130 option just to watch the Sox? Does more money flow to the Sox?
  16. Switching up a bit. Brez sees tightening of budget going forward despite what is being said publicly. Immediate reaction would be to improve what we have through analytics. Think how much money we'd save if our rotation was Bello, Houck, Whitlock, Kutter and Winck for 2025? Pivetta is a goner. Giolito with a reasonable season will opt out. That starting five in 2025 will cost the Sox less than $10M. That maybe what Henry is thinking. While at it, I'd look to get rid of Story and Yoshida even having to eat half of their contracts. Basically you'd have Devers $29M and not much else. Hell you can get the payroll down to $75M.
  17. Starts 2 Whitlock 1 Bello 1 Giolito 1 Crawford 1 Winckowski 1 Houck What's up with Pivetta? Is he hurt?
  18. Whitlock's first game in 2023 was 4/11 followed by 4/16 and 4/22. Then it was 5/27. After pitching on 7/2, he was shut down until 8/13. I just want him to stay healthy. At this point, I don't really give damn about his effectiveness. But it's good to see him having some success. Stay healthy young man. I'm also rooting for Criswell because he throws hard.
  19. I'm simply talking about contract structure for Montgomery. Idea is that we can use him for at least two years as we build up our starting rotation internally. Why not front loaded it and have an opt out after two years? Now if Henry is concerned about actual cash outflow for 2024/25, ($60M combined) then obviously it does not work. I guess I'm always thinking in terms of luxury tax payroll. So a 4 year deal at $100M, with payouts $30M, $30M, opt out then $20M the last two years comes to $25M luxury tax payroll, keeping us below the penalty. It's always a gamble with injuries and what not. Hopefully he can have two outstanding years then opt out. You could go 5 years and $120M, reducing the luxury tax payroll from $25M to $22M+. Hope the guy has two good years and then opt out.
  20. Monty, Gio, Nick, Bello and Kutter looks pretty solid while jettisoning Houck, Whitlock and Winckowski to the pen.
  21. How Red Sox went from ‘hard no’ to starting Roman Anthony in MLB spring game MassLive headline......I'm ready to move on but I doubt that Cora misunderstood the question.
  22. thanks...that's what meant
  23. Simple act of signing Montgomery would repair the feelings of Sox fans about John Henry. It's not like he's 35, he's only 31. Come on John. No one will remember how wealthy you are when you die. You will go down in history as that guy who rather hang on to his money than to win championships.
  24. According to MassLive Cora changed his mind after seeing several Orioles prospects playing last Saturday. I am just repeating the article. Don't shoot the messanger.
  25. Anthony’s appearance was particularly unexpected, since only last week, manager Alex Cora, when asked if Anthony might get into a major league game this spring, responded: “That’s a hard no.” Cora changed his mind, however, after the Red Sox played the prospect-rich Baltimore Orioles Saturday and featured some of their top minor leaguers in the contest, including the game’s No. 1 prospect, Jackson Holliday. (Ironically, Holliday and Anthony trained together this past winter in Oklahoma). Come on Cora. Get with the program. Why are we such a chicken s*** on stuff like this? It's a freakin scrimmage games. Afraid one set back will damage these players?
