  1. I'm just asking...do we need to put a shift on a .200 hitter with no power? The opposite field base ground ball hit with two outs really hurt yesterday. Bello turned and had the look, "where's my shortstop?" Why would I want to work the outer plate when the hitter knows there's only one infielder going opposite field? I'm just talking about Sallies of the hitters at the plate.
  2. As bad as we've played, we're only 3 games out. Turn around has to start with starting pitching. Nick Pivetta needs to get better than his last 4/5 starts. Starters have to keep us in the games. Then we'll have to score. Then the bullpen has to save the game. Maybe I'm asking too much.
  3. I'm watching today...Bello is making his third start. He's started twice vs the Rays and now the Jays. Welcome to big leagues. 6 more years of team control Winckowski Cutter Bello Matta no doubt will join this group in 2023. I like it.
  4. Rookies Jarren Duran (leadoff) and Jeter Downs (No. 9 hitter) went a combined 0-for-7 with five strikeouts. Franchy Cordero went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and left five men on base. He’s 0-for-21 with 17 strikeouts in his past seven Isn't it time to give up on Cordero? Develop pitchers and buy position players?
  5. Mediocre fielding shortstop with no power deserves no more than $20M per year. We paid a guy $23M with .220 BA and 200 strikeouts. He'd be an upgrade over Xander defensively at least. This team lacks power. Forget all the doubles off the wall. We need guys that can hit out. Build a team around Devers. Let the rebuild begin.
  6. Yes to all....
  7. Yep, I would add Bello to that....let him pitch his way out of it.
  8. Game 1....A team bullpen is now Schreiber, Whitlock and Houck. I think Brasier came in only because we didn't have anyone else and he's pitched well lately. Game 2....B team bullpen is now Darwinzon, Ort, Sawamura, Davis and Dieckman. I would love for all the starters get healthy and replace some of the 'B' bullpen pitchers. Barnes is unofficially off the team. We may never see him pitch. Not this year.
  9. I'm optimistic as ever. Seeing some of our younger players have been fun, good or bad. I like to know the bad news sooner rather than later so I'd like to seem them come up when opportunity presents itself. Only one I'm not sold on is Seabold. Others have major league stuff. This is no way the 2018 team. You have to temper expectations. The goal has always been to get into the playoffs for this team. We're right there. But the Yankees don't scare me over a seven game series. Two of Eovaldi, Sale and Pivetta have to be effective though.
  10. Very good sir.
  11. Diekman had his team-leading 10th meltdown of the season. Well that's even more than I've had on this board. He wins.
  12. Well, my eye test results are in. Ort the 30 year old looks better than Dieckman.
  13. I was being sarcastic. He looks fine to me. I'm wondering why the parent club has avoided him?
  14. Thank you with stats.....that's what my eyes tell me. He can't be trusted. No way I bet my life on him. I would rather bet with Schreiber.
  15. That begs the question, WHY IN THE f*** DO WE KEEP HIM? HE'S BEEN A CLOSER IN AAA FOR 2 YEARS. APPARENTLY HE'S NOT TAKEN TO 'COACHING'. SO YOU IMPLY WITH HIS HIGH BB RATE. We saw what Brasier did last time he came into extra inning game. Gave up 2 runs. When he comes in, I'm hoping the ball finds a glove. Same goes for Sawamura. They have no upside. Trot out more young guns. See what they got. We already know about Brasier and Sawamura.
  16. There wasn’t much more Kaleb Ort could do but wait. After 75 games over the past two seasons in Triple-A — most as the WooSox closer — there wasn’t much more Ort could do to earn a call-up. He’d saved 34 games in 38 opportunities. This year opponents were hitting .185 against Ort. Why wasn't he called up sooner with the mess our bullpen was in?
  17. Bottom line is we'll match up well vs the Yankees when everyone returns. Sale, Pivetta, Eovaldi and Wacha. We'll need to lengthen our pen, add to Houck, Schrieber, Whitlock and Strahm. But the starters can also come in for an inning here and there. I would love to see us add a bat at 1B. We're no pushovers. Our secondary players have gained valuable playing time.
  18. I'd have to see how well Sale pitches but the ultimate question is How well will we fare against 110+ win Yankees in a short series. Looks to me like we'll hit against them. Question is can they hit our major league pitching and not our AAA starters?
  19. They used to rave about Nathan Eovaldi' 100mph fastball. But every time I watched, the exit velocity off of his fastball was 100+mph. He now has five pitches with pretty good command. Anymore, 96-100 means nothing unless you have something else to go with it. Ecks constantly mentioned last night that Bello was a two pitch thrower, fastball and changeup. I thought he also had another plus pitch in breaking ball. I didn't see much of it. Rays simply sat on his fastball. But as posters have said, only one start. He did induce some groundballs thought. I think that was something positive to build on.
  20. Does Dieckman know you only get three balls before walking a guy on next ball call?
  21. 10 hits and 4 walks.....2 runs, yikes.
  22. That's fair.
  23. I'm going to follow Kimmi's approach.....always seeing good in our Sox. On what planet would we be unhappy that we're in the thick of playoff chase while we've seen Pivetta elevate his game, found a possible future rotation guy in Winckowski, a closer in Houck, a set up/long reliever/starter in Whitlock, future all-star in Duran (yep, I'll say it), a solid corner OF/1B Cordero and not to mention Verdugo finding his groove? Kutter, Seabold and Bello are waiting in the wings. Matta and now Ward are rehabbing. Sale is also one more outing away from pitching in Fenway. We're in thick of it despite chalking up most walk off losses in the majors. All things considered, life is good.
  24. +2.0 games up in wildcard chase....only stat that matters!
  25. Fresh off his second straight SoxProspects.com Pitcher of the Month Award, Brayan Bello got to work on the three-peat. The right-hander allowed just two hits across 5 1/3 scoreless innings, walking three, and striking out eight. He induced 17 swinging strikes and lowered his ERA since his promotion to Triple-A to 2.81. I would love to see this kid at least as middle inning guy this year. 54.2 innings pitched in AAA, Winckowski 51.1 innings pitched in AAA, Bello Bellow has now pitched 84.3 innings total in 2022 vs 95.1 innings in 2023.
