  1. I don't see why he isn't pitching tonight on 4 days rest, then he's lined up for a short outing on Saturday and starting game 1 on normal rest.
  2. I'm not the one who 'spun' anything. I just pointed out where you incorrectly quoted stats to help your point. I guess you missed the part where I said I was all for pulling him out after 5 innings. I do think reducing his workload has a good chance of helping his fatigue, but I think keeping him on his regular rotation and cutting back his innings, especially when the game is in hand is the way to do that. If it's so obvious that extra days off will make a difference, then you explain why there is 0 difference between 4 and 5 days rest for Sale.
  3. His career numbers actually show that one extra day of rest makes 0 difference. More than one day is a big difference, but if you look in detail you'll see that most of those are either after the all star break or an injury when he has 10+ days of rest. In addition, this tells us nothing about whether or not extra days off have any effect on future games, which is really what matters here. I was all for him coming out of that game after 5, but not adding days off.
  4. Agreed. I think he should make all his starts, but get out early. Price and Smith both need some innings under their belt before playoffs.
  5. The scorer (and I as well) disagree that he didn't need to barehand it. The batter was given a single, the error was allowing him to get to second.
  6. It's a minor difference, but if he goes with 4 days rest the rest of the year (there's one off day in there so he would jump someone in the rotation) he would pitch the next to last game of the season. He still wouldn't be available for a wc playoff game, but could start game one of the ALDS.
  7. Weird stat on Sale Games he gives up less than 3 earned runs Sale is 6-3, Sox are 8-5 Games he gives up 3 or more earned runs Sale is 7-1, Sox are 8-1
  8. I agree. Delaying a start maybe, but there is no way they would DL him over this.
  9. Exactly. The numbers Moon showed made it seem that you should never bunt with man on first and 0 out, but the numbers don't account for the fact that the actual comparison might be, man on 1st 0 out and 9th hitter up vs man on 2nd 1 out with leadoff hitter up.
  10. Very funny. Has history given you any indication that this is even a remote possibility?
  11. The report said Pedroia's walk off hit the other game was the second of his career. I've thought for a while that Pedroia is not a clutch hitter, but this seems absurdly low. Does anyone know how to find out a normal number of walk off hits for a player?
  12. On top of everything brought up here his offensive numbers aren't all that bad anymore. His average is down, but everything else is not far below ML average for a CF.
  13. Burleson was a little before my time. I was just looking at his stats and don't see anything even above average and just 1 gg. Was there something that about him that doesn't show in the stats?
  14. Clearly it didn't work, but I completely agree with pinch hitting for the pitcher with one out and a guy on first in the 7th.
  15. I'm sure the fact that 'tomorrow' was an off day helped the decision.
  16. The real concerns are Pedey and Hanley. They are the two oldest players on the team and both had close to the worst months of their career. Granted they're only 33, they should have a few more good years in them.
  17. This is the same Wright I remember from the first half of last year. Sometimes struggles in the first then settles down.
  18. I'll be happy if they can take 2 out of 4 in Detroit without Mookie, Xander or Hanley
  19. I bet Swihart would be a better 1B than Hanley
  20. I think he joined the flu crew
  21. I recall this being the majority opinion. The Yankees grossly overpaid and we should not have tried to match that offer.
  22. Didn't remember him, had to look him up. Those are some crazy bases loaded splits.
  23. Is there actually a savings from doing away with the farm system? There are independent minor league teams so they must not be operating at a loss.
  24. I actually see clutch more as just not choking. I find it hard to believe that players who have made it to MLB have a level of play even better than their normal level that they can achieve when the pressure is on. On the other hand, many players may be adversely affected, even in a very small way, by the pressure of big situations. Those who aren't affected at all appear to be clutch.
  25. I think this early in the year players aren't ready for competitive baseball. More so for pitchers, but you see far more injuries occur in the WBC than during spring training. My opinion is they should have the WBC in the middle of the season, but without MLB players. I would be more excited to watch the red sox minor leaguers play in the WBC in July than major leaguers in March. They would probably play better as they would be in mid-season form and have something to prove.
