  1. A Seattle Mariners forum has its own game thread for the Red Sox/Astros match-up: http://forums.seattletimes.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=241081 :)
  2. The Red Sox knocked the Astros into second place in the AL West (by percentage points in a virtual tie with the Seattle Mariners): http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/standings/index.jsp
  3. I wish you the happiness that apparently has eluded you.
  4. It would not be fair to simply report that Rafael Devers is hitting .230 and Gleyber Torres .325. Each is due for regression, but in opposite directions.
  5. Roenis Elias, who made one start for the 2016 Red Sox and seven starts for Pawtucket the following year, picked up a win Friday in relief for the Seattle Mariners: MLB Gameday: Rays 3, Mariners 4 Final Score (06/01/2018) | MLB.com WWW.MLB.COM Follow MLB results with FREE box scores, pitch-by-pitch strikezone info, and Statcast data for Rays vs. Mariners at Safeco Field The Red Sox traded Elias back to the Mariners on April 23 in exchange for cash or a player to be named. Elias came to Boston with Carson Smith in the December 2015 trade that sent Wade Miley and Jonathan Aro to Seattle.
  6. Let's discuss regression. To date Rafael Devers has posted a wRC+ of 79 and 0.2 fWAR in 232 plate appearances. To date Yankee infielder Gleyber Torres, who is 50 days younger than Devers, has posted a wRC+ of 162 and 1.4 fWAR in 130 plate appearances. ZiPS, Steamer and FanGraphs Depth Charts project Devers with rest-of-season wRC+/WAR of 101/1.3, 101/1.2 and 101/1.4, respectively. https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=17350&position=3B ZiPS, Steamer and FanGraphs Depth Charts project Torres with rest-of-season wRC+/WAR of 111/1.1, 99/1.1 and 105/1.5 , respectively. https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=16997&position=2B Despite vastly contrasting starts, Devers and Torres are projected with similar production the remainder of the season. The Red Sox and Yankees should be patient with their promising 21-year-olds.
  7. Clay Buchholz looked great tonight: MLB Gameday: Marlins 1, D-backs 9 Final Score (06/01/2018) | MLB.com WWW.MLB.COM Follow MLB results with FREE box scores, pitch-by-pitch strikezone info, and Statcast data for Marlins vs. D-backs at Chase Field
  8. I needed the Red Sox to win because a Houston loss coupled with a Seattle win would have lifted the Mariners into a virtual tie for first place in the AL West, percentage points ahead of the Astros. Perhaps the Mariners can at least win tonight to keep pace.
  9. The Red Sox have a fine team playing the defending World Series champions whom some analytics suggest have the best shot of winning the World Series this year: https://www.fangraphs.com/standings/playoff-odds
  10. A representative of the MLB Players Association responded to my inquiry with: "The terms of the contract from which he is released (such as the option year which never vested) don’t carry forward to his next (if any) contract." I'll accept that answer and let the matter drop although I specifically asked whether the vesting option was voided by operation of law or by the terms of the Red Sox contract. Warm regards.
  11. Mormons reportedly make up 3.9 percent of Oregon's population but Danny Ainge, perhaps the state's most famous Mormon, moved to Boston to become general manager of the Celtics. I am a non-Mormon, church-going agnostic who doesn't bet on sports.
  12. I understand craft breweries but "Or hipsters with beards that live a craft breweries"?
  13. To be honest: I ignore bet offers. I did not mean to be impolite. I don't bet (beyond making investment decisions and other life choices), but I am now curious about your proposal.
  14. To be precise, I have raised questions but taken no firm position. As I write last weekend: https://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/18666-Hanley-DFA%E2%80%99d?p=1145489&highlight=black-and-white#post1145489 I still hope to find a definitive answer but posters should feel free to ignore this forum discussion if the issue is of no interest.
  15. I understand that some posters are not interested in the minutiae of employee law. But others apparently are.
  16. A team seeking to sign Hanley Ramirez would likely draft a contract that frees the club from any obligation for the vesting option. Ramirez and his agent would decide whether to accept the terms.
  17. From the Gloucester Daily Times: http://www.gloucestertimes.com/sports/national_sports/mason-in-dumping-hanley-ramirez-alex-cora-affirms-that-these/article_a3d8e65e-59cb-5943-a83e-b3c2374db9a2.html
  18. Have a great time at the game, moon!
  19. As suggested, has Bellhorn04 emailed Alex Speier regarding the status of the vesting option? I've emailed the Wasserman agency that represents Hanley Ramirez but don't anticipate a response.
  20. Since the trade Mark Melancon has posted 9.4 bWAR with three All Star appearances, leading the National League with 51 saves in 2015, while Brock Holt has posted 6.1 bWAR.
  21. The Boston Red Sox traded Ivan De Jesus, Mark Melancon, Stolmy Pimentel and Jerry Sands to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Joel Hanrahan and Brock Holt. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hanrajo01.shtml#all_transactions_other
  22. And other people question. Such as an attorney. Or a former newspaper journalist. Or a former journalism professor.
  23. :D The world is full of people who believe everything reported in the media.
  24. I hold Alex Speier in high regard but would prefer that he cite the specific provision that extinguishes the vesting option instead of reporting a mere conclusion.
