  1. Boston Globe columnist Nick Cafardo suggests that the Red Sox and Mariners could meet again in October: https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2018/06/24/early-for-wild-card-talk-but-red-sox-could-see-seattle-again/jlG9fNJqLvCz2nrEc5WxeP/story.html?event=event12 Unfortunately, I can't access the Cafardo column.
  2. Of course I was the first on this thread to disclose that the Boston Globe had reported that Hanley Ramirez was not under federal investigation: https://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/18666-Hanley-DFA%E2%80%99d?p=1155575#post1155575 I've linked multiple sides of this story. Objectivity is a heavy cross to bear.
  3. MassLive presents many developing sides of the Hanley Ramirez story: https://www.masslive.com/expo/sports/erry-2018/06/9ba17785cc6148/hanley_ramirez_rumors_what_we.html
  4. Or course I've written nothing of the sort. Most stories have many sides. I simply provided another perspective without an endorsement. We all need to be critical media consumers and not latch on to what we want to believe is the truth. I presume Hanley Ramirez is innocent but expect law enforcement to do its job.
  5. Boston Globe reporter Michele McPhee reportedly claims that Hanley Ramirez was "cleared" only by an unidentified defense attorney: https://weei.radio.com/blogs/alex-reimer/michele-mcphee-kc-defends-her-reporting-hanley-ramirez-boston-globe-backs-exactly
  6. The Boston Globe reports that Hanley Ramirez is not under federal investigation: https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2018/06/24/hanley-ramirez-not-under-federal-investigation-friend-dropped-his-name-hoping-avoid-arrest/liGQyW4VpCxdbtmmA25BpK/story.html?event=event25 His agent responds:
  7. The game was scoreless in the middle of the fifth when I popped into an 11:15 am church service. When I exited an hour later, the Red Sox were up 5-0. Some prayers go unanswered.
  8. Mike Leake has not quite reached the heights of an up-and-down Red Sox starter who stands seven inches taller: ML DOB 12-12-87, 254 G, 249 GS, 1547 IP, 3.99 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 99 ERA+, 16.0 fWAR, 12.2 bWAR RP DOB 12-27-88, 294 G, 290 GS, 1771 IP, 4.21 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 102 ERA+, 24.7 fWAR, 18.0 bWAR Of course the second pitcher is Rick Porcello.
  9. The Minnesota Twins, whose postseason odds are down to 4.1 percent*, could make Brian Dozier available although the second baseman's cost in trade may be too high for the Red Sox. Dozier earns $9 million this season in his final year of team control. * https://www.fangraphs.com/standings/playoff-odds
  10. Mike Leake posted his seventh quality start in his last nine trips to the mound.
  11. The Red Sox reportedly have been in trade discussions with the Oakland Athletics: https://www.sfchronicle.com/athletics/article/A-s-to-call-up-Edwin-Jackson-he-ll-join-13020528.php?utm_campaign=twitter-premium&utm_source=CMS%20Sharing%20Button&utm_medium=social Scroll down. ... and have asked about A's outfielder Mark Canha.
  12. The Mariners may have started as many bench players (Andrew Romine, Chris Hermann, Ben Gamel/Guillermo Heredia) as the Red Sox (Brock Holt, Eduardo Nunez, Tzu-Wei Lin).
  13. The Mariners can't seem to put the Red Sox away, going 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position and leaving nine runners on base ... so far.
  14. Mike Leake has posted quality starts in six of his last eight starts.
  15. Regular posters at a Seattle Mariners forum are having their annual bash at the Seattle-area home of the most prolific forum contributor (the moonslav59 of that message board:)). I wish I could be there to watch the game but I decided to remain in Oregon because both of my adult children are home for a rare eight-day overlap. My cable-free home, however, can access the over-the-air telecast on Fox.
  16. I posted the numbers in response to a post that read: "Moncada is a butcher at second base from what I have seen." I wonder how many of Yoan Moncada's 485 chances in the field the poster has observed. The DRS and UZR systems reportedly track every play.
  17. To land Darren Bragg (who hit lefthanded) the Red Sox gave up Jamie Moyer, who produced more WAR for his new team than any player exchanged between the Sox and the Seattle Mariners in 1996-97 (including Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe). Less than two months after the Bragg trade, the Mariners traded David Ortiz to the Minnesota Twins for Dave Hollins. Ouch.
  18. This year Yoan Moncada has 0 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) in 568 innings at second base after posting 6 DRS in 467.1 innings last year. This year Rafael Devers has -6 DRS in 639.1 innings at third base after posting -1 DRS in 507.2 innings last year. This year Moncada has posted a UZR/150 of 0.7 at second base after posting -1.9 UZR/150 last year. This year Devers has posted a UZR/150 of -2.3 at third base after posting -11.5 UZR/150 last year. https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=17232&position=2B#fieldingadvanced https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=17350&position=3B#fieldingadvanced ZiPS, Steamer and FanGraphs Depth Charts project Moncada with rest-of-season WAR of 1.2, 0.8 and 1.0 in 75, 78 and 81 games, respectively. ZiPS, Steamer and FanGraphs Depth Charts project Devers with rest-of-season WAR of 1.1, 1.0 and 1.1 in 78, 73 and 77 games, respectively.
  19. The hitters in the No. 9 holes have remarkably similar lines this season: Blake Swihart 74 PA, .147/.216/.176/.393, OPS+ 8 Andrew Romine 68 PA, .148/.212/.164/.376, , OPS+ 8 What are the chances a June game would feature two starters with those dismal numbers?
  20. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2018/06/22/hanley-ramirez-investigation-red-sox/
  21. I reluctantly concur with your harsh description of the Red Sox trade pieces.
  22. Joakim Soria could be a viable option if the Red Sox can afford the residual of his 2018 salary of $9 million (plus performance bonuses). With a $10 million mutual option for 2019, Soria could be a candidate to replace closer Craig Kimbrel next year. With a potentially expiring contract, Soria should cost less in trade than Brad Hand or Blake Treinen.
