The game was scoreless in the middle of the fifth when I popped into an 11:15 am church service. When I exited an hour later, the Red Sox were up 5-0. Some prayers go unanswered.

Regular posters at a Seattle Mariners forum are having their annual bash at the Seattle-area home of the most prolific forum contributor (the moonslav59 of that message board:)). I wish I could be there to watch the game but I decided to remain in Oregon because both of my adult children are home for a rare eight-day overlap. My cable-free home, however, can access the over-the-air telecast on Fox.

I posted the numbers in response to a post that read: "Moncada is a butcher at second base from what I have seen." I wonder how many of Yoan Moncada's 485 chances in the field the poster has observed. The DRS and UZR systems reportedly track every play.

To land Darren Bragg (who hit lefthanded) the Red Sox gave up Jamie Moyer, who produced more WAR for his new team than any player exchanged between the Sox and the Seattle Mariners in 1996-97 (including Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe). Less than two months after the Bragg trade, the Mariners traded David Ortiz to the Minnesota Twins for Dave Hollins. Ouch.

I reluctantly concur with your harsh description of the Red Sox trade pieces. -
Joakim Soria could be a viable option if the Red Sox can afford the residual of his 2018 salary of $9 million (plus performance bonuses). With a $10 million mutual option for 2019, Soria could be a candidate to replace closer Craig Kimbrel next year. With a potentially expiring contract, Soria should cost less in trade than Brad Hand or Blake Treinen.

Treinen, who turns 30 years old later this month, remains under team control through 2020 working off a 2018 salary of $2.15 million. Brad Hand, 28, is owed about $16.5 million through 2020 with a $10 million team option, or $1 million buyout, for 2021. Treinen has posted 1.5 fWAR in 28 appearances this season while Hand has posted 0.4 fWAR in 34 appearances this year.
