  1. The Seattle Mariners should take a chance.
  2. The trade simulator approves a trade of David Price (three years, $96 million) and Mookie Betts (one year, projected $27 million) for A.J. Pollock (three years, AAV $13.75 million) and four years of lefthander Julio Urias: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trade-simulator/ The Dodgers would be adding about a net $45 million AAV to their 2020 budget for luxury tax purposes; the Red Sox would subtracting a corresponding amount. Perhaps not a realistic deal.
  3. Corey Seager alone has more surplus value than Mookie Betts, according to Baseball Trade Values. The Dodgers won’t trade Joc Pederson for the $96 million owed David Price.

  5. The Yankees have designated for assignment 25-year-old righthander Chance Adams, who could play a cost-effective role with the Red Sox. Or not. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/12/yankees-announce-gerrit-cole-signing-designate-chance-adams.html
  6. Pull the trigger on what?
  7. Baseball Trade Values disagrees: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trade-simulator/ Corey Seager alone has more value than Mookie Betts, according to that site.
  8. If other teams perceive the Red Sox as dead-set in getting under the luxury tax threshold, the Sox may lose already scarce leverage by waiting to midseason to trade David Price or others. Or not.
  9. I generally jog in leggings when the temperature dips below 40 degrees but I forgot to check the temperature before I dressed this morning. My daughter, who is home from college in San Diego, wore leggings on our run.
  10. Jogged in my shorts this morning in 37 degree temperatures. Beautiful sunrise in the forest.
  11. Sometimes the best decision is the deal you decline.
  12. Good points. To be precise, the Seattle Mariners reportedly are paying $3.75 million each December 1 on Robinson Cano's contract, leaving just under $85 million over four remaining seasons.
  13. NBC Sports Boston columnist John Tomase joins Chris Cotillo in the Red Sox promotions department: https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb-rumors-why-dodgers-more-182653375.html
  14. Other teams would likely fleece a front office that was as impatient as many posters on this forum.
  15. For all we know Chaim Bloom may have made numerous criticial decisions "on his own" already.
  16. MassLive columnist Chris Cotillo contends the "Red Sox are suddenly in a power position": https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2019/12/david-price-trade-rumors-how-boston-red-sox-are-impacted-by-corey-kluber-madison-bumgarner-moves.html Respectfully disagree.
  17. Indeed it is despite Mike Leake's positive surplus value of $1.1 million, according to Baseball Trade Values: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/players/8684/ Triston Casas has a surplus value of $24.5 million: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/players/7832/
  18. Good point.
  19. Suggestions?
  20. Perhaps each side approves the framework of a David Price-for-Wil Myers trade but wants a supplemental piece or pieces. Perhaps each side thinks its current standing offer will look better when the market for starting pitchers settles. Perhaps teams are waiting out the Red Sox knowing that the Sox are under pressure (desperate?) to get under the tax luxury tax threshold. Perhaps none of the above.
  21. Gerrit Cole has been dominant the past two seasons playing in the league's toughest division. The righthander will welcome the opportunity to face the Orioles and Blue Jays 18 times a season instead of remaining in the AL West where the improving Rangers and Angels may join the Astros and Athletics as top contenders.
  22. Whom would you trade for three years of San Diego catcher Austin Hedges, who reportedly has a surplus value of $22.9 million with a projected 2020 salary of $2.9 million? https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/teams/529/ https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/10/mlb-arbitration-salaries-2020.html
  23. From Sunday's MLB Trade Rumors chat with columnist Mark Polishuk: https://www.jotcast.com/chat/mlbtr-chat-with-mark-polishuk-6587.html
  24. This year 30-year-old Madison Bumgarner posted 3.2 fWAR, valued at $25.5 million. Bumgarner may not be the lefthander "past his prime." A 34-year-old David Price reportedly will be paid $11 million more for three years than Bumgarner will be paid for five years (some of which will be deferred).
  25. FWIW, over the past three seasons Madison Bumgarner, David Price and Rick Porcello have each posted 6.2 fWAR, valued at $49.8 million: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=y&type=6&season=2019&month=0&season1=2017&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2017-01-01&enddate=2019-12-31&page=2_30 Price is four years older than Bumgarner, who is seven months younger than Porcello.
