Stop. So you’re going to pretend Cora had no other options but to play Arroyo? And Bloom forced him to do it. I don’t pretend to know the ins and outs of being an MLB GM, apparently unlike a lot of people here. Of course for some it appears to simply be “I don’t like this idea or that GM, so clearly it’s his fault.”

Reportedly they had a permutation for just such a contingency. Apparently San Diego will now try desperately to move Hosmer to a team not listed on his NTC. (MLBTR cited “one of the 20 teams not listed. Obviously it’s just one of the 19, as the Padres are unlikely to deal Hosmer to themselves.) It will be interesting to see if San Diego can sign Soto and have a roster with him, Tatis and Machado all making $30mill+…

So? It will always be true. Teams can re-sign any player they deal away, Just because it didn’t happen in 3 instances spanning 8 years don’t make it less true. It does at best make it less likely, but that was always the case when the Sox are but one of 30 potential teams. One reason it usually doesn’t happen is the team - not the player - has no interest in a reunion, and never makes an offer. I suspect that will happen with Vazquez. But again - keeping Bogaerts changes that, doesn’t it?

A pattern? Are we equating trading Vazquez and Diekman to trading Betts? The Sox are holding Bogaerts, which certainly breaks that pattern.
