  1. At some point in the very near future, e we might need a couple of those prospects. When Kike is gone after 2023, I’d rather still have Ceddane Rafaela step in than Corey Rosier or Jarren Duran…
  2. I’ve been calling him DFA Fodder since August 3rd. But it’s the only Sox news we’re going to have for a couple weeks…
  3. What exactly do people mean by going “all in”? The team had a payroll of $234 mill last year and people think that’s only going half ass?
  4. Maybe Raffy what? Contrary to popular belief, Devers is still under contract…
  5. So apparently Hosmer now has a full NTC. Of course he didn’t have a “Please don’t DFA me” clause in his contract…
  6. But we’re all in agreement I’m the more handsome knucklehead…
  7. Technically only 2 contracts, because Xander’s does not have to end. He must have been absolutely catatonic after 2004, when Pedro, Lowe, Varitek, Cabrera and Nixon all had their contracts come due. And there’s 26 guys on a roster, making that percentage even smaller…
  8. The money and signability is a big reason always. Carlos Correa was taken number one overall but much of the pre-draft hype was all around Mark Appel and Kevin Gausman. (Correa was somewhat hyped as well, but proved to be more singable,) Or Matt Bush taken first ahead of much, much more hype around Jared Weaver and Stephen Drew.
  9. Me, personally, thinks “stick it to the Yankees” is a bad reason to sign a player. And I mean “shouldn’t be on the list of reasons why” bad. Sticking it to the Yankees should come with continuing our newfound dominance in titles this millennia…
  10. Don’t forget the Mets!
  11. And David Bell will (and should be) banned as well if he partakes in the services this new partnership…
  12. MVP is taller, but Notin is more handsome…
  13. So they don’t like slight improvements? Its a much more equal and sensible deal than the Red Sox trading their starting LF for more expensive downgrade at backup catcher…
  14. So people can differentiate MVP from Notin?
  15. No referring to myself in third person?
  16. Berti also knows how to get on base. I’m still on that fad…
  17. Second one yesterday. But would Miami?
  18. There is also some understandable doubt about him replicating last year. But he could ALDS so just go to middle relief. Last year, Schreiber pitched in 22 games that were high pressure outings per aLI. Compared to Barnes, who had 9, and none after May 17. Schreiber was the Sox “relief ace” who kept getting brought in to face Bichette and Vlad. Even if he struggles, he can probably thrive in a reduced pressure role just facing, say, whoever is due up in the 7th. A rebuilding team might move him. But are the Sox rebuilding? If they were, they wouldn’t be looking to sign Bogaerts; they’d be looking to move Story…
  19. Notin wouldn’t be opposed to Berti in the right deal…
  20. My point.
  21. Maybe. Five years of Duran (OPS+ 69, Surplus value $5.9mill) is valued roughly the same as five years of Mariners OF Jarred Kelenic (OPS+ 66, surplus value $5.6mill) Change of scenery for both?
  22. McGuire didn’t?
  23. Sox fans also have a weird definition of “dumpster diving.” Apparently it applies to any player not an All Star in his prime. Schreiber and Springs were dumpster dives. And, as it turns out, good ones. Diekman and Strahm were legitimate MLB pitchers the Sox acquired by signing them to market-rate contracts. That’s not “dumpster diving” in my book…
  24. We’re talking about Tom Murphy, not Sean Murphy. Tom Murphy is a backup catcher whose no better than anything the Sox have now. Reese McGuire’s defensive metrics make him a much better option to be a starter than Tom Murphy…
  25. Obviously fans have zero input. I didn’t get what they saw in Springs, either. But apparently he did have some skills. My assumption was “well, that’s what you get when you’re trading away Sam Travis. Garbage gets you garbage.” At the very least, this whole scenario has given me at least some optimism for Easton McGee…
