  1. Age is a bigger factor than it probably should be, but I believe the goal with any contract like this is to get as many of the age 28-32 years as possible, before decline sets in. As Bogaerts is already 30, do you think he still gets paid like a 28yo?
  2. I’m ok with that, as long as 1) there are actual bodies batting third and fourth and 2) no JD…
  3. Why? The only other option IMO might be leadoff. The 3 hitter isn’t really the place for RBI/production guys anymore, but moving him down = fewer PAs, which is also bad. I could see him batting first, but third is really the second best option…
  4. Not to mention, signing any deal is not Boras’ decision. All he can do is say “Xander, please wait.”
  5. With Garcia, the three years bothers me more than the $41mill
  6. Avisail Garcia hasn’t been very good since 2017. Not sure how far back off a bounce is to be expected. Plus his contract has 3 yrs $41mill left on it. Might s well just get a free agent pitcher and NOT watch this guy Pretend to Defend out there…
  7. Why does St. Louis need to trade an outfielder? O’Neill is a surprisingly good defensive OF, but not sure where their stack up is. Grisham is a lights out defender, but struggles offensively save the occasional hot stretch. Not sure how available Ward and Suwinski are…
  8. If Renfroe is available, he is certainly a candidate. And things worked out pretty well with him in 2021. So, in no order, the (non-QO) OF candidates named so far: Gallo Haniger Benintendi Berti Laureano Renfroe With likely QOs, there is Nimmo and Judge. Anyone else? New or forgotten?
  9. So… Houck
  10. Berti certainly has the leadoff/OBP aspect. Sox should investigate getting him, too. But as he’s not exactly costly, he’s probably not as available. I don’t think he has the arm for RF, but some bodies can be rearranged…
  11. What exactly were the strengths of the farm at the upper levels?
  12. Or Duran I actually think Oakland might not mind Duran, but I doubt they give up Laureano for him. I doubt they pay the BTV price at all…
  13. Other than Benintendi and Nimmo, who else is available?
  14. Laureano is a defense-first solution. He’s not ideal, but still better than most FA options…
  15. Who called Seabold a coup? Getting a cheap, controllable (albeit unspectacular) starter like Pivetta for a couple months control of two fading and increasingly ineffective RPs that have combined to pitch for about a dozen or so teams (including Boston) since that trade is coup enough for me. Anything from Seabold at all just makes it look worse for Philly..
  16. I’m probably the biggest Gallo supporter here and I would rank him as the third best option, and even that could go down since I have no idea who besides Laureano will be available via trade. Technically he’s the fifth best IMO but I took out the QO candidates (Nimmo and Judge) since I strongly doubt the Sox sign anyone with a QO. I do like the Benintendi suggestion for LF, with Verdugo going to RF. I see Benintendi as a lesser albeit healthier version of Nimmo and a potential leadoff hitter. And Ramon Laureano is a better option. I’m open to other suggestions, but I will discredit one I feel are unrealistic (like Judge) for that exact reason…
  17. That happens. The Sox saw something in Pivetta the Phillies didn’t and something in Schreiber the Tigers didn’t and something in Whitlock and German the Yankees didn’t. Of course it dues work both ways as the Sox also saw something in Ort that the Yankees rightfully did not see…
  18. Oh. Ok. Makes more sense.
  19. There is also the possibility that they were not as overly wild about Springs as we are all assuming, and he was simply the best (only?) player that could be had for Sam Travis…
  20. Perez looks like he just has a career year…
  21. Really it looks like that deal was a worthwhile gamble that they lost on. I don’t mind that so much. I also think that finding the Springs/Schreiber types might even be a repeatable skill for this office and they can do it again…
  22. Struggling to figure out how 3.4 fWAR in 94 games is 3.8 in 150. As your math is normally quite good, what am I missing?
  23. Considering the single season record is 223 (Mark Reynolds, 2009)..
  24. No, but his $23mill salary limits the ability to move him…
  25. Maybe Koudai Senga? He does look interesting but these Japanese guys seem to stay on the west cost alot. I think a lot comes down to whether or not the Sox can sign Bogaerts or how they replace him. Signing Bogaerts/Turner/Correa/Swanson might make Marcelo Mayer more available for a pitcher, especially if they are just as high on Mickey Romero s as they are on Mayer. I know Ceddane Rafaela is also mentioned as trade bait frequently, but he’s also the Sox only viable MLB outfielder between Boston and Greenville…
