  1. Hopefully Crawford pushed both down a notch after yesterday. If so, maybe Ort is next man down? Or Bello. Either way, if Houck returns to the bullpen, we’re talking about the 7th and 8th options at reliever. I’m not going to sweat the mop up guys when the starting 2b and SS are a bit of a mess…
  2. I don’t get why he isn’t leading off…
  3. But while the early returns on Yoshida (.662OPS) look weak, he isn’t paid much more than Benintendi (.650). We may have reached the point where the 5 year $15-18mill contracts just don’t but what they used to…
  4. It’s nice that he’s been doing that down in Worcester, but against MLB pitching his career is 8%. I’d be more interested in Duran if he at least could defend CF. Has shown any improvement in that area this year?
  5. Sox called up Jake Faria likely to give IP today prior to an immediate demotion. I mean, they guy had an ERA over 10 in Worcester. They likely figured he could be called up, pitch, get DFAd and clear waivers all within 72-96 hours…
  6. If he continues to strike out over 30% of the time, this is a non-issue..
  7. No. But the Sox weren’t out of range to begin with and did improve. I think they are more likely to insist fifth than first, but I also think the most likely outcome is neither place…
  8. We also know by now it’s not permanent. And last season, the last place finish said more about the other teams in the AL East than it did the Sox…
  9. Oh you’re just saying that because they’ve finished either first or fifth 10 times the past 12 seasons…
  10. He should use baseballs…
  11. Not really. Mostly there’s been some weird overreactions on this board that make it seem that way…
  12. A week ago, Whitlock was too homer-prone. Today he’s our best starter. To be honest, I don’t agree with either sentence. But he will be in the rotation until he proves he doesn’t belong…
  13. I actually think Whitlock and Houck to the pan, but that’s just me. And seriously, probably just me. But if Sale, Kluber, Paxton, Pivetta and Bello can get going, the bullpen anchored Jansen, Martin, Schreiber, Houck, Whitlock, Winckowski, Bleier could shorten a lot of games. Of course that rotation should always have an injury or two
  14. Whitlock is a good pitcher that had a bad game last time. If the Sox can get Paxton, Whitlock and Bello going, this team might not be so bad…
  15. Kutter will be sent to Worcester when Paxton returns…
  16. Since when was that an obstacle for the Dodgers? This team keeps giving more money to Clayton Kershaw to be a part time starting pitcher. I mean, do they sounds like real money matters to them when they keep shelling out $20mill each year to a SP who hasn’t thrown 130 IP in a year since 2019…
  17. Slight misquote on my part, but it’s not like I was comparing him to Bill Gates. Ohtani will be limited to the top spending teams like the Dodgers, Mets, Padres, Angels, Yankees, and maybe the Cubs. The Red Sox just don’t do that anymore. But then over 3/4 of the league won’t be able to fit Ohtani in the budget. Of course if his WC preference is true (and non-negotiable), Dodgers, Angels, Giants and maybe the Padres are really the only options. If WC is important to him, Boston was never a candidate anyway. I’ll include the Mariners, too, just in case Ohtani idolized Ichiro and wants to follow in his footsteps. But I don’t consider this a likely result.
  18. So where is your Reese McGuire Tin Foil Conspiracy hat? Why did the Dodgers and Braves give up on him to replace him with, well, anyone? I mean, it’s been two years and the Dodgers still don’t have a closer!
  19. I do like that about them. Also while Jansen gets all the love, the bullpen overall (in this case, the word “overall”meaning “everyone but Ort”) has been very effective…
  20. “More money than anyone in history” severely limits his options. He’ll be a Dodger…
  21. Murphy is better at showing up for work…
  22. Easily believable given how he signed with the Angels in the first place…
  23. Clearly why he signed with the Angels. Ohtani doesn’t care how the Sox “treated” Betts and Bogaerts. He’s going to take the largest offer. He didn’t hire an agent to get him to a “star friendly” team, because that won’t matter. His contract will be guaranteed. And if he for some reason neither of us can comprehend decided the Sox were unfair to Betts, or, as I’m recently hearing was a star, Christian Vazquez, his agent will deftly explain how that benefits Ohtani, by freeing up more money. Or maybe Ohtani will talk to the one star on the Sox he knows - Masataka Yoshida. I’m sure Yoshida has plenty of tales of mistreatment. I have extremely serious doubts Ohtani signs in Boston for one obvious reason - they simply don’t pay the most to star players anymore. Having Yoshida is really the only thing that keeps them in the running, but even that operates on the assumption the two actually like each other..
  24. I can see your point, but will he be from 31-40?
  25. A handful. Darvish, Nomo, Tanaka, Maeda (when healthy) Maybe another. Senga might join that list. Or he might be another Daisuke, Kikuchi or Ohka. Certainly Daisuke and Ohka had good careers, but neither was really irreplaceable…
