  1. I wasn’t on the Lorenzen Train. I was all about Paul Blackburn. By the way, since the break, Blackburn has 3 GS with a 1.93 ERA…
  2. Makes the 90 days the Nats made Ryan Zimmerman wait look like an eternity…
  3. This is just hindsight. JD really didn’t do anything to deserve another year. In 596 PA, he hit 16 HRs and had 62 RBI. Yoshida, with 40 games left, already has 13 HR and 60 RBI. Not to mention, JD is a terrible defensive OF. Yoshida will never win any Gold Gloves (or even get a vote), but he is better than JD out there. There was a reason Cora never gave JD any real OF time last year, and it wasn’t because the Sox were rolling out Rice-Lynn-Evans. Cora didn’t even seem to have a high standard for OF play, as evidenced by how often Duran was out there. Now if the Sox didn’t sign Yoshida and Kluber, and instead signed JD and a pitcher, they could have afforded Jameson Taillon (5.63 ERA), Taijuan Walker (4.03 ERA) or Kodai Senga(3.30 ERA). That certainly could be better, assuming they signed Senga over the oft-injured Walker and avoided Taillon altogether. I think they could have sided both Senga and Yoshida and avoided Martinez and Kluber and been even better…
  4. Cora didn’t put Martinez in the OF last year where he could have replaced Jackie Bradley and his anorexic batting average. I don’t see him putting Martinez out there over Yoshida. Besides the Sox would very likely have not signed Turner if they brought back JD. And having both in the lineup creates the potential for somehow even worse defense…
  5. Also, “team chemistry” doesn’t make pitchers more effective…
  6. Did the Sox start off with a tough schedule? I remember Baltimore to start, but Pitt and Detroit were in there too…
  7. I didn’t see the play but very often these are ACL/MCL…

  9. Right. Bloom should check for one in his seat cushions…
  10. Does that put Stanton in the OF? He still has 4 years $129 mill left on that deal. ($20mill covered by Miami.). He’s not getting moved…
  11. I’d rather have Turner and his 6 fewer home runs than Martinez right now. Martinez’ .312 OBP isn’t dazzling me…
  12. Mark Appel and Brady Aiken were #1 overall picks in consecutive years…
  13. Just fill out the forms…
  14. And both are front runners for MVP in their respective leagues…
  15. So apparently the Sox aren’t the only team that can’t run the bases. Seattle’s Dylan Moore grounded out to left field yesterday. LEFT field… https://www.yahoo.com/sports/seattle-mariners-dylan-moore-commits-234829700.html
  16. I want to say it was a complete failure to read the market. But the market for players priced that high already existed. So accusing him of that would be like accusing him of failing to predict the past. I honestly think it was a case of Henry showing his miserly side…
  17. Ok so why do you suppose Mookie’s contract demands were excessive in 2020 but Devers’ deal was acceptable in 2023? I
  18. Those guys barely combine to make what Price made (in two sets). Price was signed almost 8 years ago and only Devers has topped that deal. And the Sox were able to unload Crawford and lots of other deadweight early on. That deal had 0 Albatrossivity…
  19. Well, maybe if we didn’t sign Price and expose Henry to the riskier side of MLB mega-contracts…
  20. He’s had a better OPS than Devers most of the season…
  21. … and that is why this team needs Matt Chapman next year…
  22. I assume you came back to supply those links I asked you for a couple weeks ago…
  23. Casas is cheaper but he is definitely a question mark at baseball’s easiest defensive position…
  24. Duran is an exciting offensive player at times, but he isn’t all that much of a CF (although infinitely better than he was last year). I do like the idea of a Duran/Garrett deal. Certainly Florida needs the CF help, what with a misplaced and oft-injured Jaz Chisholm out there. Duran-Arraez might be an interesting leadoff combo, as well. I’m sure Miami has a different assessment of Duran than myself and BTV…
  25. BTV actually gives Duran and Casas nearly identical trade values. Duran’s surplus value is $45.7mill while Vasas’ is $47.5mill. I do expect Duran’s to drop more next time they run numbers…
