Duvall is absolutely a solid option. It’s hard to think of any better ones that would actually be available. Another good all around RHH outfielder who will definitely be available is Avisail Garcia. But he’s been fairly banged up the past two seasons so who knows what left. He’s owed $29mill over the next 2 years, so he’s not a huge gamble, and the spendthrift Marlins might encourage Boston with other pieces just to unload that deal…

Trout was exactly what I said he was - better on an Internet forum than for a guy actually making decisions. The thing is, the Sox probably need a RH bat they can play RF at Fenway, especially if they move on from Verdugo ( which isn’t a given). Free agency has very little, unless you like Randal Grichuk and his Sub-.300 OBP. There was a time Ramón Laureano felt like the perfect fit. He certainly has the arm. But he’sh has a few other issues, including vanishing offense, that he becomes a question mark, too…

.650 isn’t much of a floor. Plenty of teams have at least one starter with a .650 OPS. But what if he’s at .530? Like JBJ was his first full season?

The notion of giving a player an occasional day off and actually getting some action for the Major League ballplayer on the bench seems like a good thing for multiple reasons. I know a lot of fans complain, but I think it has to happen to some degree. I just don’t know we can’t give Cora credit for it as opposed to insisting it was all Bloom and Cora was forced to endure it like it was a huge detriment. It wasn’t driven by analytics, unless they were Cora’s analytics. I think plenty of managers have always done this. Not every player is Cal Ripken…

A healthy Trout would be a great move on multiple fronts. However it’s not only 7 years; it’s $260mill over 7 years. Trout has been reluctant to move out of CF, so maybe he needs to realize it is time. He could also occasional DH in Boston - something he could not in Anaheim due to Ohtani. Trading Trout would give Anaheim a better chance to re-sign Ohtani. But losing out on Ohtani after dealing Trout would be a horrible PR move for that team…

Per MLBTR, when the Sox and other teams talked to Wacha, he Al wanted 2 years $30mill. San Diego did give him that (plus an extra $2mill) but with a cheap year upfront followed by the team option, essentially giving Wacha a chance to prove he was worth his demand. Now did he? When he pitched, he pitched well. But the prevailing question is exactly what it was always going to be - did he pitch enough? If they wanted durability, he flopped. But there’s got to be a next-to-zero chance Wacha exercises his player option should San Diego decline. We all know he can do better…

Agreed. He’s always been a weak outfielder and really, he hasn’t been the same as a hitter the past 2 years. Could he bounce back? It’s not impossible, but as he’s over 30 it’s going to get less likely every year. And who really knows how many years he is looking for…

Should Duran be on the 2024 team at all? He can probably only play LF, and thankfully (for Duran’s sake) the Sox no longer have Adrian Beltre, who would frequently steam roll speedy Sox left fielders. But if they want a RHH bat, left field might be the best option. Although Toronto has this slick-fielding third sacker who does hit right-handed and makes a ton of sense…

To play where? An Abreu/Duvall platoon in RF makes sense. Or should the Sox get a RHH to play RF? Is Teoscar Hernandez (.741 OPS) really that much of one? Or Randal Grichuk (.779)? Bring back Renfroe (.713)? Are any of them good enough to cover RF at Fenway?
