  1. Ragans was dealt early. Common belief is if you buy too far before the deadline, you pay more. The Rangers also traded Ronald Acuna Jr’s baby brother for Max
  2. Even at the time, I would have preferred dealing Middlebrooks. His stay there was brief, but Iglesias might have been the best defensive 3b in Sox history. Bogaerts proved uncomfortable at 3b and needed to be at SS. But Iglesias didn’t…
  3. The Rangers dealt two players who would get ranked by BA the following season for Montgomery and Stratton. The Astros also dealt their top prospect for the then-reigning Cy Young winner..
  4. Iglesias was ranked #96 by MLB that season, and ignored by BA and BP. The Sox were using him as a 3b prior to the trade, as they had a veteran SS in Stephen Drew. Once they dealt Iglesias, they did eventually call up another SS prospect to play 3b, but this one was ranked #20 by MLB, and also ranked by BA (#8) and BP (#12)…
  5. This is the third season of 3 wild cards and third season of expanded buyers at the deadline. Have we seen that many top prospects get dealt in deadline deals? (Have we seen any?)
  6. The Resident Insomniac doesn’t need to go back and verify that Cam Booser (8th inning) and Zack Kelly (9th) accomplished this feat Monday. So I suppose “not one reliever” is still correct…
  7. Can the Sox go an extra inning without giving up a run?
  8. “Ambiguity. The Devil’s volleyball.” - Emo Phillips
  9. Games are longer than 3 innings these days..
  10. Huh? O’Neill singled to start the rally and scored on Westbrook’s home run…
  11. I thought you meant that .218 was the best any hitter on the Sox did vs LHP…
  12. It’s also not true https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&season=2024&season1=2024&ind=0&team=3&type=8&month=13&qual=1&sortcol=12&sortdir=default&pagenum=1
  13. I’d take a healthy Paxton, as long as he isn’t the only pitching add. He’s a better fifth starter than Criswell…
  14. Not replacing Giolito was definitely a poor choice that has very, very likely already negatively impacted this season…
  15. Please don’t compare rolling the dice on Paxton at $7mill to rolling the dice on Sale at $27.5mill. Not to mention, they just DFAd Paxton. That low risk dice role came to a premature conclusion…
  16. Shocking. He won’t clear waivers. Expect a trade in the next 3 days…
  17. Damn straight I’m waving them. The joy is in the journey, not reaching the destination…
  18. Find out what? That they’re at least as capable of blowing it up as Weissert? The bar is pretty low here…
  19. But Paxton is only worth 0.4 bWAR so far this year, which is not comparable to Sale. In fact, he still has more bWAR from 2020-2023 than this year, which is also unlike Sale. Paxton has reduced IP over the past 3 seasons, but he hasn’t bounced back to All Star/Cy Young levels like Sale. Not even close…
  20. Actually, this makes sense as to why Jansen pitched last night. Once again, Cora knows the staff better than me. Although why he blatantly refuses to use Horn and Anderson while relying heavily on Weissert is still unexplained…
  21. As much as they bother me sometimes, I’m going to defend the whiners. For some (maybe most?), it’s cathartic to type out some post-loss negativity on here, and if it keeps you from kicking the dog or deep-frying your daughter’s Guinea pig, the one with the white feet, not the other one, then I understand and support it. And if your negativity bothers me, that’s on me. And I can occasionally counter the negativity with truth-based reality if I think such a thing exists. Of course, every now and then I need a catharthis myself…
  22. What’s wrong with Duran’s .678? Carl Yastrzemski had a lifetime OPS of .693 against LHP. The Sox do need to add a RHH to the lineup at some point to stop the bleeding vs LHP. But a .678 is closer to average than problematic…
  23. The bullpen has been a pleasant surprise this year, but it’s false to say Breslow didn’t add to it. Slaten was added by Breslow. Also he prematurely added potential replacements for Jansen and Martin in Hendriks and Fulmer. He also added Chase Anderson, Weissert, Booser, and Uwasawa. And he’s been looking into arms all season, adding players like Horn, Wingenter, Speas, Keller, etc. Of course now is the time to add another arm to a frail and tired bullpen…
  24. Bad trade? So far, yes. But give it time. Has your opinion of the Bradley/Renfroe trade changed now that Hamilton looks like an actual ball player?
