    And while Helsley’s BTV value is pretty low, if it is accurate, the Cardinals are potentially better off just offering him a QO and taking the pick. Unless they collapse in the next two weeks, I don’t see him getting dealt unless someone really overpays…

    Toro has not been a godsend of late, and his history and BABIP strongly suggest he will not be one again anytime soon. Romy is insanely hot right now, but again, reality will set in. I’d think a 1b is likely. Im not sure why “pitching is the biggest need” matters. It’s not like MLB only allows teams to make a limited number of deadline trades. And any prospect dealt for a rental 1b probably wouldn’t bring back a pitcher anyone wanted anyway. It feels more like a way to deflect unwanted conversations…

    BTV gives Helsley a surplus value of $2.7 million. Their closest matches in the Sox system are Jedixson Paez ($2.9mill), Yophery Rodriguez, Nelly Taylor, and Antonio Anderson (all $2.5mill). To me the real question is - are the Cardinals selling? They are right there in the thick of the NL Wild Card and I don’t see Helsley bringing back the kind of franchise-altering return to justify selling..

    Yoshida at 1b? He’s like 5’1”! I actually did advocate for Duran. But for a while it looked like 4’2” Andrew Vaughn was an easy and possibly undervalued trade target from a tanking team. But he has since moved on to a team that felt similarly. I think by the end of the month the Sox will trade Duran and acquire a full time starting 1b. And these will probably be two separate moves…

    Duran should have been already IMO. He’s a lousy outfielder and a former infielder.

    DD did draft Duran, Houck. Casas and Crawford. But I believe they remain the only Major Leaguers he drafted with Boston. Unless you want to count Dalbec. At this point in time, that seems low. But it might be fairly normal or even a good amount. I am NOT researching into that. Moon?

    I always thought he was talking about the minor leagues for that phrase. But fans leapt on to it as an admission the team wasn’t even going to try. Even though they signed John Lackey to the largest contract given to a SP in franchise history at the time. Fans just seem to cling to anything that the organization will not be trying and instead doing whatever possible to ruin their enjoyment. They spent more money on MLB players during the Bridge Year than they did when going “full throttle,” but yet the Bridge Year persists as a non-effort. Just another Florian Wirtz situation, I guess…

    I think the only way Mayer would be optioned is if Romy became the everyday 2b, which makes some sense while he’s hot but certainly not long term. Hamilton is the smart move. I agree in letting Mayer play every day and keeping the platoons at 1b and RF…

    No it doesn’t. It puts the onus on Anthony. Let’s not start pretending Password was an equally viable starting option just yet. And Refsnyder? If Anthony struggled like Campbell did, do you want Refsnyder and his very limited skill set out there every day? They reportedly shipped Abreu, which is looking like a questionable move on their part as well as on every team that passed on him. And Abreu is probably worth more now. Not sure why depth is considered a problem by so many fans. I’d rather they held off on moving an OF. Aren’t they better off with 4 starting OFs than they would be with two?

    Why is it irrelevant? They had an offer to move his whole contract, which had even more money at that time. Right?

    To be fair, Garrett Richards was signed in 2021, two years before Sale was traded. Sale’s salary was not removed to accommodate him as they were teammates…
