  1. Frazier is a one trick pony. And that trick isn't defense. Better off calling up Devers and if you must deal with the White Sox, trying to acquire Swarzak...
  2. The reliever wouldn't be charged in that case....
  3. I don't think they mishandled Moncada. Just because he struggled isn't the GM's fault. He did demolish AAA pitching prior to being called up. Swihart was flat out stupidity.
  4. I do think pitching depth ( starter and reliever) might a bigger need than 3b, where the Sox still have actual internal options. ..
  5. The whole "not the good prospects" thing does make deals impossible. Those are mostly the guys Hahn would want. I could see a Sam Travis / Todd Frazier swap as plausible.
  6. I'd rather they brought him up now rather than wasting prospects on some rental journeyman whose just as likely to go into a slump anyway. Marrero/Lin is still an option if Devers struggles. Of course the team will say he's not ready, and he needs to face more non-MLB caliber pitching in order to get ready for MLB caliber pitching. I do think sometimes "not ready" is GM Speak for "we don't want him reaching free agency by 27." Of course Dombrowski does have a track record for throwing the kids out there. (See Porcello, Rick.)
  7. Instead of Carolina, bring Milwaukee back to the AL East. With Detroit, Cleveland and Milwaukee back in the fold, the AL East can look like it did in the post-Blue Jays expansion up though the 1980s. Who doesn't miss that awesome division?
  8. Most of the transplanted residents in that area quit reproducing decades ago..
  9. Or you could have compared him to Mike Zunino, who looked completely useless through is age 24 season (OPS+ of 71). but has been much improved since...
  10. Castillo may never be back, as Dombrowski is reportedly not a fan, calling him a "fourth outfielder at best" during his showcase. But right now, the guy has had like 300ABs spread out over 2 years, and played through injuries for a good chunk of that. His contract is a stumbling block, although not going over the LT limit this year removes many of those issues. He does play the outfield with reckless abandon, resulting in far too many injuries. And unfortunately for him, that style works. And while Dombrowski initial assessment was a disparaging one, it is worth noting that the role DD pigeon-holed Castillo into is the very role the Sox might use him for....
  11. The last 3 expansions were a direct result of the owners losing lawsuits to the MLBPA for collusion. Until there is another successful lawsuit, MLB will not expand...
  12. He did it for Oakland. ..
  13. Probably why all they could get for him was a journeyman backup catcher winding down his career. And the Sox still came out ahead in that deal...
  14. I don't think I ever saw a prospect I wanted gone for "sell high" reasons as much as Will Middlebrooks. Then again, I thought his eventual flop was so inevitable, I would hope every GM capable of landing an MLB job saw it coming too...
  15. I do agree with Nick on one point, where I agree strongly - DH everywhere. Having two sets of rules for the leagues is stupid. It would be like if the AFC didn't allow kickodfs and just put the ball on the 25, while the NFC didn't have placekickers and every touchdown was followed by a two point conversion...
  16. Very few fans tune out April baseball, as evidenced by ticket sales in April vs. other months. The NFL plays one game per week. MLB has a virtual monopoly on sports in the summer. The competition is other forms of entertainment. ..
  17. So no Jonathan Egan and Michael Bowden. But yes tbe Sox overall draft history was crazy impressive under Epstein. His 2011 draft was probably the single most productive one in MLB history. ..
  18. With Sandoval, Holt, Marrero, Lin, and Peralta already in house, will third base even be a focus between now and July 31?
  19. Varitek over Pedroia?
  20. I seriously doubt this. Strikes me as speculation. The seasons don't even coincidence. Anyone ever heardvavftiend say "I'm sick of these losing Red Sox. I'm going to wait until October and start cheering for the Celtics instead."...
  21. The Sox had a pretty glaring window deadline in 2004, she Pedro, Lowe, Varitek, Nixon, and several other key players all hit free agency simultaneously, and the farm was fairly depleted. And yet there they were winning it all again in 2007...
  22. While I think trying Devers should have been done already, I agree he can't be counted on. (And I'm finding myself more and more impressed with Marrero). I think the Sox were positioning themselves to try some internal options (Peralta, Devers), but the play of Marrero and Lin worked out well enough. I'm not so sure a July 3b acquisition in going to happen, and they will simply roll with the status quo until, say, mid to late August when they call up Devers. If he flops at first, Marrero/Lin go back to their current roles. And Sandoval is put to sleep...
  23. It's also unrealistic to think all those players will still be in Boston in 2020. Trades happen, especially on teams run by Dave Dombrowski. Porcello may be a tradable bargain at some point. Bogaerts or Bradley may be dealt. A lot can and will happen. How many players from the 2014 Red Sox are still in the same uniform?
  24. If I was Rick Hahn I would hold out for a better offer than that. The lower you go into the minors, the less a player is worth in a trade. O ckimey is a nice prospect, but he's no guarantee of anything. Chavis is a better starting point, but also topple. I don't think anyone is going to deplete the farm for Frazier, but I think he gets more than that. Bear in mind the Yankees might also be looking for a 3b, and they can easily top thst offer...
  25. A Judgian CAREER???? The guy has 450 at bats. Getting a little ahead of yourself with his Cooperstown induction? I know it's hard to envision a player who gets off to a great start not having a grest career, or a great second season. But it happens, and if you need an example, I can think of one recent Story. (As in Trevor). Or, as a Yankee fan clearly obsessed with moonshot home rund, maybe you are familiar with the record holder for the longest home in the old Yankee Stadium. A fellow by the name of Joe Charboneau. Look him up sometime...
