  1. 1. The only prospects the Reds would have wanted were the ones the Sox sent out for Sale. Are you saying the Sox should have gotten Votto instead of Sale? 2. Or better yet, which prospects were you referring to? Bear in mind that even with his HIDEOUS contract, Cincinnati has given no indication they want to dump Votto...
  2. Pirates GM Neal Huntington once said about the trade deadline "I was prepared to do something stupid, just not something crazy."
  3. Why would a rental be so bad? You get to keep your better prospects and move to the front of the line to negotiate for 2018. A controllable veteran power bat will likely cost Groome and Chavis and possibly Travis as well...
  4. Both are rentals. Neither are superstars. I don't think it'll be a crazy cost....
  5. One amazing year of production that included an extremely impressive post-season.
  6. A snag wouldn't be surprising. The Yankees have a ton of really good prospects, but Cashman is doing his best Ben Cherington impression and making too many untouchable. Nothing kills trade talks faster than hearing "No, you can't have the guy you want."
  7. A farm that was practically built by selling off last year's bullpen. ..
  8. Boras won't ask for $20 million for Bogaerts. Arbitration is an either/or situation. If Boras submits $20mill , he'd better be able to prove to a neutral third party Xander is worth that much, otherwise the Sox practically have a Carte Blanche to give Xander as little as possible within the guidelines. Boras is more likely to ask for $7-10 mill. Something he can make a case for.
  9. I don't like the Shaw trade as much as anyone, but when you make a sweeping generalization about not trading prospects for relievers and cite Bagwell as the reason, you probably need to also realize you're now advocating for getting Manny Margot back....
  10. Do people not get simply replacing Ortiz was not a simple task? "Why didn't Dombrowski just go down to the MLB head office and fill out some forms?" The idea of getting Sale as a replacement was probably about as good as was possible. ...
  11. The Twins went from buyers to sellers in between starts but Jamie Garcia...
  12. Trade him to Cleveland for Kyrie Irving.
  13. Victorino and Drew were one season wonders. Napoli was definitely not. But his biggest impact signing that off-season was Uehara. ..
  14. That might be a bit far. I think he just figured he had more time to see his plan through. And really, he did. Despite what his critics say, he wasn't fired. Dombrowski wanted him on board, presumably to draft and build the farm, which is something Dombrowski has only had limited success at throughout his career...

  16. So that argument hinges on just because people know about something, it becomes their business?
  17. Sure Price was out of line and should be accountable. But how is that the business of anyone except Price and Eckersley?
  18. till only a 9 game stretch. Even the 1927 Yankees had rough weeks. ....
  19. And yea this is about th re Boston media. Fans like Eckersley. When Sox players rip someone Shaughnessy, its Shaughnessy who winds up with the funny nickname.
  20. Several years ago, then Cubs manager Dusty Baker ripped color man Steve Stone on an airplane and complained about Stone to ownership. That was Stone's last season doing Cubs' games. Did you hear about it?
  21. It's part of the age old adage "A manager is only as good as his bullpen. "
  22. "Since the All Star break" is a two week timeframe. Yet somehow right now those two weeks are more important than the three months that preceded them? And, in contrast to your statement, the Sox traded for Nunez since then, making it the only stretch this year in which the Sox have attempted to improve from outside the organization. (Unless you think Fister was an improvement, which is debatable. ) What collapse last year? Losing three games to the AL champion should never be labeled a "collapse."
  23. The "not winning" was the least of his issues. The crippling contracts he gave to Cabrera and Verlander - especially Cabrera - could end up going a long way towards holding that franchise back....
  24. Dave Dombrowski seems to be a short-sighted General Manager, which doesn't make him unique. But in Detroit he let his short term goals cripple the Tigers long term, and did so without winning anything. Hopefully that isn't the plan in Boston. ...
