If you don't like Boston weather, come to Chicago. It's like trading snow for unbearable cold. "It's minus 20 outside, but at least I don't have to shovel it."
And maybe the 3 worst hitters can be used to load the bases for them too.
Also a baseball should no longer be used and the pitcher must underhand a volleyball...
If Holt makes the team - and he probably will - I'll cheer for him to do well. But he really doesn't impress me much and I agree with Nick's assessment of his defense. ..
They traded the starting DH from the All Star game making just under $6mill last year and received a $5.5mill reliever valued at 1. 7fWAR over the past 6 years (less than the immortal Alex Claudio last year alone) and an infielder who didn't crack the top 28 in the Pittsburgh prospects rankings. And a small amount of cashn
You sure they didn't give him away?
I'm surprised they held on to Marrero and let Taylor go, given their infield depth, admitted need for relief depth, and that Taylor still had options left
He Might be the Sox best trade bait, considering his rank, skills, proximity to the majors, and that 1b is the only position on the Sox he can play that isn't locked up by a young, talented, homegrown player with multiple years of control. ..
Who ranked Brannen that high? I can't find a single source that has ranked him at all, let alone as the fifth best non-pitching prospect.
That really doesn't mean anything about his future, but it does mean two things.
1. He is extremely unlikely to make the majors next year.
2. In no way should the Sox move Bradley anytime soon to clear a path for him.
I think the Yankees have an advantage in the bullpen, but the Sox front five is far better than theirs. Mostly because I lack faith in Sonny Gray.
Their lineup is scarier, but don't underestimate Boston. While they were a distant 15th out of 15 in home runs in the AL last year, they were still sixth in runs scored. Add in a legitimate 35 home run bat, and this offense did get much better overall...
Or Betts to CF. But either way you have to re-arrange the outfield if Bradley gets hurt. It's probably what would happen, and it's not horrible or unprecedented. But sometimes it's just smoother to have the backup who can play the position...
Problems like this do have a way of working themselves out. Injuries is one way. And it's always possible one or two guys earn the right to sit on the bench due to poor performance...
If the Sox keep Hanley, Leon and Swihart, they need a middle infielder who can play CF, unless the re-arrange the outfield if Bradley gets hurt. Holt is the closest fit, I guess. Makes me wonder why Marrero is still around instead of Taylor. ...
