I'm assuming JD plays the outfield in NL parks and not 1b. If he does play the outfield and none of the starters are injured, who sits?

Why would Martinez sit out from fielding on day games after night games? He did play the outfield last year in those same games plus a whole bunch of others with this same injury. ..

One of the stranger trends this off-season was to sign injured pitchers to low money two year deals, knowing full well the pitcher would not pitch at all the first season. The goal is to get a single season put of a good pitcher at a lower AAV. Michael Pineda and Drew Smyly both received such deals from the Twins and Cubs respectively. With that in mind, two important facts. 1. Craig Kimbrel is a free agent after this year. 2. Trevor Rosenthal is injured and unlikely to pitch this season. ..

I mean if you want a rumblings case that makes more sense, isn't it JD Martinez? He gets released by the Astros - and not the new good Astros, mind you. The older shittier "lucky to win 50 games" Astros. And he goes from not good enough for one of the worst teams in recent history to one of the best sluggers in the league? By going to a much worse hitting ballpark? Yeah that makes sense. But as I said, rumblings are crap. Ignore them until you get a positive test. ..

"Never to resurface" was likely due to injury, so - mystery solved! Rumblings are typically crap. There's usually a really good reason most of them never go beyond the rumbling stage. If every player who was the subject of rumblings actually used steroids, then most of games would be cancelled because teams would not have enough eligible players..

No one is fascinated wIth Johnson, but he is likely to make the team and pitch out of the bullpen he is left - handed and had no options left. I have found more people to be fascinated with Bryce Brentz than with Johnson, And Johnson always had an infinitely better chance to help this team than Brentz did

I've never spoken with Scott Boras either, but even I know how "team friendly" those deals are going to be received. Not very well. While Cobb and Arrieta (and Lynn) all remain unsigned, it's not like they have NO offers. They just don't have ones they want. They're already receiving the "team friendly"offers and rejecting them. All the guys want now is a "team unfriendly" offer. THAT is what it will take to sign them. ..

Both Craig and Martinez were notorious late bloomers. While I've never heard either player connected to steroids, the fact that both were late bloomers would not make it surprising if they were. ..

HErickson is one of many to play both sports professionally. Before Danny Ainge was an all star shooting guard, he was a horrible second baseman in Toronto. Gene Conley played for the Celtics and pitched for the Red Sox. Before switching to acting, Chuck Connors played for the Celtics and the Dodgers. The list goes on and on. Which is why a straight up basketball player would never be on my radar. ... -
If the LoMo contract is a risk, then JDs contract is a suicide capsule. The big hold up in JDs deal is undoubtedly his Lisfranc injury, which may or may not have healed to the Sox liking. But then despite his great year last year, this can be a very serious injury. It's the same one that ended the career of Allen Craig. ...

Connaughton was my first thought, too. Although I'm sure other power forwards can be converted to power arms, much like the Reds did with Amir Garrett. Why would anyone want Russell Westbrook as a pinch runner? I'm 100% certain I can find an actual baseball player who is as fast or (more likely) faster than Westbrook and posseses actual baseball skills as well. If Clay Buchholz - a former wide receiver recruit at Notre Dame and U Texas - taught us anything, it was that speed alone does not make a good baserunner....

We'd all like top see JBJ become more consistent, but what does that really mean? Most of the non - elite hitters in MLB have bad months and have their season carrIed by the one or two good ones. The guy bats eighth or ninth. Even if he struggles all year out doesn't figure to be too detrimental....
