  1. We’ve seen teams deliberately coddle investment players (Strasburg) and players/agents deliberately take their own precautions when money is on the line (Matt Harvey). Let’s not pretend this is a new concept from either side...
  2. Doesn’t the fact that they were committed sort of undermine their analysis?
  3. Exactly. And now that Sale is locked up for this year and the five after it, do they worry more, the same, or less than if they knew he was gone after 2019? It’s like how the Nationals pulled Strasburg from the postseason for fear of his arm. They were worried about his next 5 years...
  4. It can be the Canadian Standards Association, the official airline of the Czech Republic, or the Covenant, Sword and Arm of the Lord, which was a white supremacist organization from Arkansas. But I think given the context, he is referring to the Czech airlines...
  5. There is a big difference between “caring less” and “not caring”...
  6. Well, don’t you think they need to be concerned about a $150mill investment?
  7. If the Sox didn’t extend him, I could see caring less about his arm...
  8. But the bullpen pitchers, who did see plenty of Spring Training action, don’t miss him?
  9. Shall we bet it doesn’t last all season?
  10. I do think they started the season unprepared, which is a big reason why they have sucked. Unless someone has a better theory about how all five starters are in the same massive slump and are all pitching well below their career numbers all at the same time...
  11. Absolutely. Sign Vélez and have him and Davis bat back to back, offering some sort of “protection” in the lineup. And have a contest where the winner has to guess the date of the next hit either gets...
  12. People panic way too early. Someone called game 3 against Seattle a “must win” game last week. There is no such thing as a Must Win MLB game in March...
  13. Former record holder Eugenio Vélez is only 36 and his 0 for 46 streak is technically still active, as it was the last 46 at bats he played in the majors. I think Baltimore should sign Eugenio Vélez and have him compete his “task” of dethroning Davis for the title ...
  14. He still can’t field. I’ll keep you posted if this changes...
  15. The pitching stuff does have a proven track record of pitching better when Leon is behind the plate. The starters complete failure right now is probably more due to barely throwing in Spring Training games and not the catcher. But at some point, Leon might actually be back. It’s not like Swihart and Vazquez are world-beaters back there...
  16. But then who goes?
  17. The Red Sox are 1-6 in games where they score first, with that one win coming in a 1-0 game in AZ. So therefore, the Sox are 0-6 in games where they score first and the other team scores at all...
  18. Sox hitters are at a huge disadvantage by not getting to face Sox pitchers...
  19. After 3 starts in 2018, Sale had a 1.06 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 12.2K/9. I’m not positive yet, but I don’t think he’s been replicating those numbers...
  20. I look at it this way. The staff will pitch about 1450IP in a season. The rotation will pitch about 800 of those. The bullpen is left with the other 650. So they already are going to handle over 40% of the innings. Using 3 or 4 pitchers every now and then takes them out of the next game or two, which means the starters need to go more than their 5-6IP in those starts or use the recently overworked bullpen. Now with these early season off days, it worked out. But as the season goes on, it’s a bad idea to shift more IP from that 800IP bucket to the 650 IP bucket. Especially considering one is only expecting about 60-70IP apiece from each reliever, already leaving the non-rostered relievers to pick up nearly 150-200IP over the course of a season...
  21. Bad accountant jokes. Nothing about an upcoming Price hike?
  22. Exactly. Which is why using the bullpen for an entire game every now and then is unnecessarily taxing...
  23. Agreed. Once? Sure. Multiple times? Not a smart strategy...
  24. If that’s the case, our GM/President is an idiot...
  25. But I was kidding. I don’t see any hope at all ...
