  1. Well, the Rays and Diamondbacks just played a 3 game series that drew 24,000. For all three games combined. 24,000 isn’t a great attendance for one game, let alone three...
  2. Swihart was charged with misconduct?
  3. Should I have added that he’s handsome? I’m honestly not that sure his trade value is altogether high. I just know it’s more than Nunez, Holt, etc. and if the Sox did move him it means Chavis can play everyday without being a defensive liability. Of course, by July 31, maybe we won’t want to see Chavis playing every day...
  4. A big part of my point...
  5. He’s a candidate, but probably not first choice. The Sox could also sign some sort of dirt cheap Brock Holt/Logan Forsythe type and give him a shot first, knowing that if he fails, Chatham is still there as an option...
  6. If JDM is back, less need for Moreland. But it will all come down to how much money he prices himself at... a
  7. I said of al the potential free agents, he’d bring back the most, with the possible exception of Porcello. And that Chavis could move to 1b if 2b isn’t working out...
  8. I think mvp is probably right and Devers stays at 3b and Chavis takes first, leaving 2b the position to fill. Pedroia gets first shot, but a part time 2b might be a target. Internally, the options are limited. Holt (if he’s back), Lin and Chatham are options, I suppose. Or a cheaper FA like Dozier, Schoop, or (ugh) Kipnis. Or maybe DD breaks the bank for someone like Scooter Gennett, since he doesn’t seem to like going light in free agency.
  9. Saying he has the most trade value isn’t at the very least a form of “respect”?
  10. Is Mike Fiers the worst pitcher with 2 no-hitters?
  11. Then why didn’t we like Sandoval?
  12. I’d take him over Greg Bird and Luke Voit...
  13. I doubt it happens, but he’s got more trade value than most of the other pending free agents. That’s all...
  14. One odd thought might be moving Moreland at the break. If Chavis becomes a liability at second, Moreland might be the only expiring contract to draw any interest (besides Porcello, but that only happens if the Sox are out of it). The undersized Chavis might be moved to 1b like a young Danny Murphy. Especially if the Sox are cautious after Moreland’s weak second half last season. I do consider this highly unlikely, however. I think the Sox might make some sort of Addison Reed / Ian Kinsler type move to grab a short term veteran who can respectably fill a need...
  15. Nunez had a player option. He exercised it and the Sox had no choice in the matter. Pedroia is going nowhere. And this isn’t going to change no matter how many unthankful fans throw pennies into water fountains wishing he would retire. Porcello, Moreland, Nunez, and Sandoval’s contract are likely gone, and barring a massive turnaround, Thornburg will go, too. Holt and Leon might be retained since they fill needs and work cheaply. Bradley probably stays, too, mostly because trade interest in him was pretty weak this past off-season and he has yet to do anything to make any team reconsider. There was a time when Edwin Encarnacion and Yasiel Puig were in play for Bradley, but those are the best offers I ever heard. (And the Sox were wise to pass on Puig in particular, as he’s just as streaky offensively but also brings worse outfield defense and a slew of alleged attitude problems.) If the Sox hope to retain Betts, there won’t be much room to bring most free agents back or bring in any high-priced talent...
  16. 1986 was awful because they were one out away with no one on base and a two run lead. And because right before Carter’s rally-starting single, they televised the scoreboard at Shea Stadium flashing “Congratulations Red Sox. 1986 World Series Champions.” And then it fell apart. Even after Evans started game 7 with a 3-run home run to give the Sox an early lead, the hangover from game 6 made it feel like they still had no chance...
  17. Or any food, like Cy Pieh or Tyler Salad(ino)...
  18. And with the Sox winning 99 games - the most many of us had ever seen at the time - and not making the postseason...
  19. I would have been ok using both methods. It’s not like there’s some rule where you have to do one or the other...
  20. Hey we did use Scott to get Tom Poquette! Sure he was a rather run-of-the-mill bench outfielder, but he used to murder the Sox. So it helped to stop facing him...
  21. 1978 felt worse because the Sox had a better team and a huge lead most of the season, and because the Bucky Dent game was played in Fenway. In fact, had it been played in Yankee Stadium, Dent’s HR was a routine fly out to left...
  22. Not enough!! Three hitless games!! That’s only 53 shy of being Joe DiMaggio in reverse!! I need my daughter here to yell “UNACCEPTABLE” in her Lemongrab voice. (It’s a spot on impression.)
  23. Spend tens of millions on crapshoot free agent relievers with good track records and high mileage or spend next to nothing on low mileage minor league free agents that have a career similar to Ryan Brasier?
  24. How did this never happen on the “Fun with baseball names” thread?
  25. Demote him!!! Bring up that kid in Portland!!
