  1. I don’t mind Bradley’s bat at sub-.700 OPS for an 8th or 9th spot hitter. But he made $8.8mill this year and could make close to $11mill next year. His overall play just won’t justify that salary for a team that might be taking budget into account and resetting. If the Sox do plan to reset (which they should), no way they keep Bradley unless something unforeseen happens (Price Trade, Martinez opts out). For a lot less than $11mill, the Sox can get another all glove/no bat outfielder....
  2. Sportrac has the Sox at $57mill below the first threshold prior to arbitration cases. The Sox have 4 likely expensive arb cases in Betts, Bradley, Barnes and Benintendi. Not likely this reached $57mill, but the Sox could come uncomfortably close. Betts is a tough call, but with that type of headroom I think they keep him, pay him, and reset. Benintendi is an obvious choice. Bradley is an extremely likely non-tender. At $8.8mill this year, he might get $11mill+ in arbitration (depending on what each side offers). His overall play just doesn’t justify that salary. Barnes might be in the $3-4mill range tops. But if it comes down to it, I could see the Sox moving him. (Atlanta?) I hope they don’t think he could convert to starting....
  3. Has any player in MLB history ever been more overhyped than Joba the Hut?
  4. For Sale, it could easily be one down year. That happens. For Price, it looks like his career is in decline and expect it to continue for the remaining 3 years...
  5. I believe it was McAdam who first put forth the DD Gone/Reset Plan.
  6. Colten Brewer!!
  7. Per that site, the Sox have $57million to spend, but that money includes arbitration for Betts, Benintendi, Barnes, Bradley, Hembree, Workman, and Wright. And possibly others. The arb cases for the B names alone could easily top $40million, which is why I doubt they’re all back next year...
  8. Clearly you are unfamiliar with the PR department of the Chicago White Sox...
  9. I live in the Midwest where cornhole aka bags is a religion. But no one EVER watches it on TV. Ever. That takes a special brand of despondency...
  10. Nowhere near the same impact as his contract. And performance for that contract. Trevor Bauer has a reputation for being difficult on all fronts, yet look at the haul he brought to Cleveland. If Price was still putting up Cy Young numbers during his arbitration years, he could stick forks in Eck’s eyes and set fire to Eck’s hair without any negative impact on his trade value...
  11. And yet this type of performance isn’t common, even for elite prospects (who aren’t rookies for the Rockies)...
  12. I’m putting in my application for GM...
  13. I think they don’t deal Betts if they don’t have to. But I also don’t think every available roster spot will be filled internally...
  14. Complete non-prospect with a .760 OPS in the minors who was unranked by every scouting organization, and he gave them no reason to rank him. But in MLB, he is on an absolute tear. He homered again tonight, giving him 7 in his last 6 games. His OPS in the previous 5 games was 2.098. As he just had the one home run tonight, it might come down a bit.
  15. If they reset, I think dealing Betts might be s necessity unless JDM opts out, which is unlikely...
  16. He’s a positionless Three True Outcome hitter. His ceiling is Chris Carter...
  17. Travis’ ceiling is bench bat/backup 1b/fourth OF whose limited to LF...
  18. Casas was in high school two years ago. Ockimey isn’t really a prospect because while he has power, he’s not much of a hitter. And defensively, he couldn’t catch a cold if he was naked in Norway...
  19. Logan Allen Michael Kopech was last year but is out with an injury...
  20. And why not at this point?
  21. Who was the one from BDC who passed away this past year? He was a good one too. RIP. The three Yankee regulars on this board (Jacko, Carpin, blksomething) aren’t Yankee trolls despite blatantly bleeding pinstripes. I’ll take 50 more of them over one Angry Bird (name subtly hidden, but not really)...
  22. Reportedly they’re trying to get under $200mill, not $50mill. They’ll trade Betts and non-tender Bradley, Hembree, and Wright. They might even trade Barnes. I doubt they move Bogaerts, but it is possible. I doubt they have to move Vazquez or Benintendi. They’ll also obviously let all the free agents walk, likely with no Qualifying Offers. Not that any would get one under any other set of circumstances...
  23. Not me. The only reason I liked the Price deal was I figured he would opt out after 3 years...
  24. I wonder if that budget expectation (reset!) means some are going. Betts and Bradley are easy guesses. But if they are really dialing back, and Price and Sale are tough moves, does that mean Bogaerts is on the block as well?
  25. And we have a winner!!! The Red Sox do lead the American League with 419 bullpen appearances (and that’s before adding another half dozen today). And yet they are 7th in innings from the pen - and last in the AL East. (Opener strategies do impact here.) That might say something since it probably also means the Sox are at or near the bottom of the league in bullpen IP/Appearance. Maybe because they aren’t dry effective? Or is Cora too overeactive?
